Why does my crustless quiche taste more like an omelette than a quiche?

Why does a harness stop a dog pulling? (Miraculous change in DDog. Not even trying to pull any more)

What cures menopausal insomnia?

Magnesium for the insomnia, I take the liquid. 🙂

MadauntofA · 11/08/2020 19:16

Because the crust is the only tasty bit of the quiche?

How can i get my son's wheelchair in the car boot without lifting it (slipped disc)?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/08/2020 19:24

@colouringindoors

Portable ramp and wheel it up? Thanks

MadauntofA · 11/08/2020 19:25

You can definitely keep raw cake mixture in the fridge. Amount you can eat depends on your tolerance to sugarGrin

How do I get a teenager to stop leaving dirty plates in his room?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 11/08/2020 19:27

I wouldn't keep raw cake mix, because the baking powder will fizz out and it won't rise.

Same if the rise if from whipped eggs, they will deflate.

Alittleodd · 11/08/2020 19:31

Some various reasons I've heard suggested for harness depending on kind:
1 - the no pull harnesses deliberately put pressure on shoulder joints which cause the front legs to lift slightly, this is uncomfortable so the dog stops pulling.
2 - halti and the like mean that pulling forwards turns the head, so the dog doesn't get to where it's trying to go and pulling no longer has the desired effect
3 - regular chest harnesses, there is a suggestion that the unpleasant sensation of pulling on the lead can cause some dogs to pull harder to try to get away from it, harness stops the pressure on the neck and so makes dog feel less like it needs to get away.

In the BBC2 programme about lifestyles (post) war rationing is given as the reason British food was terrible. If true, why didn't other European countries end up in the same situation?

What cures menopausal insomnia?

HRT.

Paranoidmarvin · 11/08/2020 19:45

@gotanygrapesduck oh I hope someone comes along and answers this. The other day we had none in the cupboard. All in his room. He came down for a drink and then got annoyed when there were none.
Don’t even ask what I answered that one with

Alittleodd · 11/08/2020 19:47

@gotanygrapesduck have you tried a spray bottle and a short sharp hissing sound? I find that methods suggested for dog training often work well on teenaged boys. (I swore by the Victoria Stillwell "ah AH" noise with my bottom set year 10s)

lazylinguist · 11/08/2020 19:52

Nothing stops my dog from pulling. Harness, figure of 8, halti, dogmatic, training with treats, stopping every time he pulls. I've tried 'em all. Nope.

He'd probably just laugh. He's not supposed to take plates etc up to his room but he just ignores me

Gubbeen · 11/08/2020 19:58

Why does my crustless quiche taste more like an omelette than a quiche?

Because when you take away the pastry crust, that's pretty much what a quiche is.

On the menopausal insomnia I can only offer sympathy and fellow-feeling. I now sleep alone, because if anything wakes me at all, whether it's five minutes after I first fell asleep or at 4 am, I can no longer fall back to sleep. The day just starts then.

Alittleodd · 11/08/2020 19:59

@lazylinguist I had a collie cross that was like that. Brightest dog I've ever owned, superb obedience, walked to heel off lead with zero issues but on the lead? Nightmare. She had endless training - I did all the courses, I hired a behaviourist, I even let my ex-herdsman grandad (who trained dogs that were competition level herders) attempt it... Apparently she was untrainable when it came to pulling.

The low point was when I was "helped" by a kindly stranger while walking her "ah look, you've just rescued her have you? Poor thing, she probably never had any walks on leads before you had her"...

We'd owned her from a puppy. She was five.

Why do men take so long to do a poo?

Why do men take so long to do a poo?

We ALL know the answer to that one. They’re just hiding from real life and adulting.

Alittleodd ah I think it’s no 3 for DDog. Thank you.

I am not satisfied with any of your quiche answers! 😂

OP posts:
Alittleodd · 11/08/2020 20:30

Crustless quiche will taste more like an omelette because it cooks quicker than the traditional quiche - so it will lose moisture quicker. The speed of the cook will affect the way the proteins in the egg form into their new shapes (I'm too hot to phrase this properly, soz!) and that affects the taste.

You also have the addition of extra fat and salt from your crust which will add to the flavour of the quiche filling itself.

I'd say use some extra fat in your crust less quiche, cook it at an even lower temp and for longer and see if that stops the omelette-ness of it all.

How do I get a teenager to stop leaving dirty plates in his room?

Switch internet off until plates are returned to kitchen.

ladybee28 · 11/08/2020 20:39

Why does my crustless quiche taste more like an omelette than a quiche?

Because a quiche with no crust is a frittata, no?

to be clear, I have never encountered a crustless quiche so I have few legs to stand on here

KitchenDancefloor · 11/08/2020 20:40

What IS that smell?

Hahahahahahaha. Seriously though, if we do that all hell lets loose as our phone line is shit and the devices then wouldn't be able to reconnect - I tried it once and had to shutdown all the things connected to it and restart them. I just change the router password instead now.
