Why does my crustless quiche taste more like an omelette than a quiche?

Why does a harness stop a dog pulling? (Miraculous change in DDog. Not even trying to pull any more)

What cures menopausal insomnia?

What are the occupations of the inhabitants of the island of Stromboli?

Primarily fishing, and also tourism-related jobs.

There’s an interesting documentary about them.

imapenguin · 12/08/2020 04:11

Why am I so tired even though the baby sleeps 12 hours a night now? And why do my bones hurt?

isthismylifenow · 12/08/2020 06:13

Another poo one.

Why does my dog have to spin around and take forever to find the "right" spot before he actually goes ahead and does the poo. I should add in that this was a middle of the night desperate to go, not just your general post meal poo.

If he's that desperate why take 5 mins extra finding a poop spot?

@isthismylifenow Perhaps that is what all the men are doing when they go for a poo. Perhaps they all have to twirl around three times, stare at the bowl and consider before turning to evacuate. This is why they take so long. Plus doing the crossword.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2020 09:33

Why do the twins steal my food disproportionately more than anyone's elses? They're 8 months and eating my bagels. Can I sell them?

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 12/08/2020 09:37

@abitoflight @fodderbeet
Thankyou!

MadauntofA · 12/08/2020 09:37

@Flyingarcher
I now have a vision of thousands of men circling in bathrooms finding the right spotGrin
Maybe it explains the wonky toilet seats too?!!

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2020 09:51

Would you be worked if your 8 month old (7 corrected) didn't sit up, hold their own bottle fully or lift their arms up to be picked up?

HumphreyCobblers · 12/08/2020 10:05

Like a previous poster said, more fat and a slower cook equals a quiche rather than omelette.

Half cream/half egg. Add whatever. Cook low heat.

Yesyoudoknowme · 12/08/2020 10:06

@Chicchicchicchiclana you need to find the ones with a bar across the back NOT the individual fittings for each screw. I think they sell them in Wilkos - they are notoriously difficult to get hold of though.

@KitchenDancefloor that'd be all the plates left up in the teenagers bedroom...

My question: I am an avid reader - why do books nowadays have SO MANY spelling mistakes in them? Are proofreaders slowing being made redundant?

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2020 10:13

@Yesyoudoknowme do you read a lot f self published authors?? I'd red pen them all and then see if they're on Twitter etc.

Yesyoudoknowme · 12/08/2020 10:13

@InTropicalTrumpsLand

Can vegans ride horses?

@sproutsandparsnips Depends on the species, it has to do with their reproduction cycle. I wouldn't be surprised if they were artificially selected for their egg laying ability - they certainly were for size and maturation rate.

I was totally confused when I read the question then read (what I thought was) the answer... was the relevance of the species to do with the horse or the vegan? Blush
Yesyoudoknowme · 12/08/2020 10:17

@sleepstandingup - no these are well known writers - the latest being a couple of MC Beaton books. The worst culprits were by Rory Clark - a trilogy where not only were there prolific spelling errors but the continuity was totally appalling! I went to write a review and found that someone had just written what I was about to. I used to be a proof reader and I find it painful and it really can ruin a book for me...

Definitely red pen and tweet them/the publisher

Fanthorpe · 12/08/2020 10:28

@Yesyoudoknowme yes, I agree, some appalling editing. The worst ones are when a homonym is used (prey/pray)

It matters because it takes you out of the narrative and removes some of the trust you have in the author. I always try to check I haven’t got it wrong though.

BabyMoonPie · 12/08/2020 10:42

@SleepingStandingUp because you are the centre of their worlds and everything you have is amazing to them and so they want it . Alternatively they have decided you are weak and an easy target and are picking on you (dd is 3 and still eats my food far more than her dads)

Smile

I think it's because a lot of proofing/editing is done on screen now, and it's a lot harder (I think) to pick up errors that way.

I suspect the latter. There's two of them, they gang up on me. I'm hungry.

HopelessSemantics · 12/08/2020 10:57

@imapenguin

I don't have the answer but I do understand. My baby sleeps through the night every night and has done for at least two months. My husband is not one of those lazy shitebags who does nothing either. I am at home for now with the baby, no job to worry about. My baby is chill, rarely cries, no illnesses to worry about.

And yet, I am so tired all the time. I used to get insomnia and now I fall asleep standing up.

imapenguin · 12/08/2020 11:30

@HopelessSemantics sounds the same as me. Husband does plenty with the baby, he's an easy baby too.
Feel like my head could roll off though and everything always hurts.

AriettyHomily · 12/08/2020 11:33

@GervaseFen

In the BBC2 programme about lifestyles (post) war rationing is given as the reason British food was terrible. If true, why didn't other European countries end up in the same situation?
Maybe because the supply chains broke down coming in by boat?

Yes, lots of publishers have made in house copy-editors/proof-readers redundant. Some outsource it overseas and others try to push the burden on the author who may or may not be up to the job.

CoatTails · 14/08/2020 09:59

Another question!
Is it good or bad to have a high percentage of bone mass and muscle mass?

OP posts:

@isthismylifenow My Springer bitch draws dotted lines; she squats and shuffles.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 14/08/2020 12:33

Quiche answer: I suspect that a nice creamy quiche filling wouldn’t be robust enough to stay in one piece for very long on its own without the crust. Assuming crustless recipes add more egg for sturdiness.
