Tea towels - how do you wash yours?

Do people wash them separately or stick them in with an ordinary wash?

I always do mine separately, but it means they are hanging around until I have a few to do.

I'm not sure whether everyone segregates things that go on bodies from things that go on things that food goes on or if I am being a bit ridiculous...

I wash them at 90 with other cleaning cloths and washing up cloths, and things like mop heads, steam mop covers and dusting cloths. I have a lot of tea towels and dish cloths so they are changed every day and chucked into the utility area until I gather a few, usually once a week. I put oven gloves in with them too.

ChocolateOO · 09/08/2020 18:37

I do lights and darks. Sometimes I do a seperate towel wash if we have a few. But I have my washer on daily. so I'll often have a mixture of

Teatowels
Light joggers
Pyjamas
Light t shirts
Bath towels together.

I also wash underwear in with clothes. Not sure if that's disgusting???? But I don't put teatowels in with underwear....

Kitchen wash: tea towels, cloths, bibs, cheeky wipes.

HyacynthBucket · 09/08/2020 18:52

I am amazed everyone on here seems to put them in with other washing. I only wash them with other tea towels or over gloves. No way would they go in with clothes. Thanks for asking OP - I have wondered about this.

@VanillaSpiceCandle

On their own or with cleaning cloths. I have sometimes put them in with the towels on a hot wash but it doesn’t seem right. Maybe I should relax!

I don’t feel like cleaning cloths can be mixed in with anything else though. The idea of cleaning product residue and the stuff they’ve used to clean doesn’t seem very nice. Am I being ridiculous though? Does anyone else just throw in cleaning cloths with a normal load?

By that argument, knickers should have their own wash. Maybe one wash per family member!
daisypond · 09/08/2020 18:57

They just go in the normal wash. I wouldn’t dream of doing them separately.

hiredandsqueak · 09/08/2020 18:58

With dish cloths, hand towels and bath mats at 60 degrees.

BertieBotts · 09/08/2020 18:59

I put my cleaning cloths in on an normal load too. Tend to use plain vinegar instead of fabric softener if there's cleaning cloths in there though otherwise it wrecks the absorbency.

ClickandForget · 09/08/2020 18:59

Towels and tea towels together a couple of times a week.

ThatDamnScientist · 09/08/2020 19:00

Mine go in a mix of towels, bedding, cleaning cloths, etc on 60⁰, just detergent and no fabric conditioner.

Holothane · 09/08/2020 19:02

Bung in a 60 degree wash towels

isthismylifenow · 09/08/2020 19:03

I never put mine in with clothes. They go in with towels or on their own if I gathered up enough.

I think my thinking is that they have been used instead of oven glove and general mop ups so if they have oil or fat on, it's going to get in the clothes.

I never realised I was a bit ocd about tea towels and dish cloths until now Smile

Staffy1 · 09/08/2020 19:04

With towels at 60 degrees.

Chickychickydodah · 09/08/2020 19:05

I use a clean one every day, just bung it in with my normal wash.

MistressMounthaven · 09/08/2020 19:07

On their own at 60 degrees.

Strugglingtodomybest · 09/08/2020 19:16

Mine go in with everything else. On 40.

HappydaysArehere · 09/08/2020 19:16

Hot wash with towels unless it is a boiling hot day when I chuck them in with other things at probably 40 dgs as the sun will disinfect them further.

AlwaysLatte · 09/08/2020 19:18

I sort all my washing as I go and have one for towels/tea towels/hot mats etc and I wash these on 60 no fabric conditioner.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 09/08/2020 19:23

I never bother separating the laundry so everything (all colours, fabrics and items) goes in together. It's a chore I hate anyway so I'm damned if I'm going to make it more difficult for myself!

bengalcat · 09/08/2020 19:25

I do everything together at 40 degrees .

Nicolastuffedone · 09/08/2020 19:28

I wash them at 60 with towels

copperoliver · 09/08/2020 19:29

I wash mine together and add a capful of zoflora. X

CrystalMaisie · 09/08/2020 19:33

Tea towels, dish cloths and bath towels all get washed at 60. I wouldn’t put them in with my clothes as they get washed at 30.

TimeTruthandHearts · 09/08/2020 19:35

I afix them to rocks on the river bed for a day or two, before then bashing them with stones against natural slate. They're then dried draped across my thighs, letting the natural bleaching agent of the sun do it's magic.
I'm just fussy about my laundry.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/08/2020 19:40

I do them with the rest of the towels. Wouldn't do with clothes as I don't use fabric conditioner on towels.
