whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 18:28

Paypal keeps asking me to verify my phone number for 2-step verification but although I have checked my phone number the code is coming through.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

It's definitely the right number? I've never had that - can you give them a call?

barbrahunter · 05/08/2020 18:34

Are you sure it's not a scam? I've had a few text and email scams pretending that they are paypal recently.

Mabelface · 05/08/2020 18:36

For some reason, I can't receive validation texts at all and it's driving me mad. Its likely genuine as I got an email from PayPal stating they're changing their verification process and they'll text a code.

goatley · 05/08/2020 18:38

Have you logged on to your PayPal directly? Not via email link.

@Mabelface

I'd just call them then and explain what's happened
whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 18:41

Not a scam, it's to do with new security rules being brought in to prevent fraud. It's when I log into my paypal account on the paypal site it asks me to verify my number for 2-step verification, I have downloaded the google authentication app so I can use that instead of a code to my phone but I'm just wondering why the code doesn't come through.

I never login from any links in emails or texts etc.

i got an email saying this but didn’t know whether to actually do it? i’ve had sooo many scam emails pretending to be from paypal and amazon lately that i didn’t want to risk clicking the link on the email.

whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 18:46

It's to do with new security rules to prevent online fraud, I think I had a similar problem with microsoft or google a couple of year ago.

I've googled the problem now and it looks like it could be to do with filters from my mobile provider blocking texts from some numbers??

I received that email today but it isnt genuine.

Oldestchild90s · 05/08/2020 19:40

I had this once before but due to phone signal. I think in the end it tried to send about 5 texts to my phone and as i had no signal they didn't come through, this ended up them thinking i was scamming myself and reset my password about 5 times 😂😂

Nightmare, but i love the two step verification 👍🏻

whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 19:44

I think the scammers are taking advantage of the change to send out phishing emails, it's when I'm logging into the site on the browser, not from an email link, that I am getting the request to set up 2-step verification after I've logged in. I never login from links in emails or texts.

Are you clicking on the big blue button to confirm after you've checked yes? It's caught me out once or twice

LJZRBB · 05/08/2020 19:52

I’ve done it. Couldn’t continue with clicking through the site the other night until I had. Def genuine.

The only thing I can think of is wrong number. Although it’s hard to tell as they * out the first half of your number.

whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 19:53

Yep, tried everything, I get taken to the page to enter the code, butI'm just getting the codeConfused, I think I'm going to have to speak to my provider and see what they say, I get codes from my bank without a problem

I'm having the same problem. The text doesn't come, no matter how many times I request it. The weird thing is, if I go to another website then back to PayPal it just logs me straight in

TheFlis12345 · 05/08/2020 19:54

I have had that email 3 times this week but when I log in to PayPal on my laptop (not using the link in the email) there is nothing there so I assume it is a scam.

whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 19:58

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem, it could become a real issue with the increase in 2-step verification and online security

I got a text and it was a scam. Luckily I realised. Logged on on my iPad through the browser and everything was fine. Changed my password just in case.

whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 19:59

numbers definitely right, I've checked it in account settings

Also got email but can't do it.

What they are all missing is people like me who rely solely on wifi. I have no signal at all.

So effectively now both bank and PayPal won't let me in because I can't receive a text.

This is going to be a disaster if we are locked down again. Banking in a lay by ten miles away. Sad

Pavlova31 · 05/08/2020 20:20

After having a couple of convincing looking Scam emails from Paypal lately i am not trusting this one.

whathaveijustseen · 05/08/2020 20:34

It's not from an email this is on the paypal website, I haven't clicked a link on an email, it's when I log into my account they ask me to set up 2-step verification, it's similar to when your bank sends you a code to verify it's you making an online purchase or payment.

goatley · 05/08/2020 20:34

I have just logged in to the PayPal app and nowhere is it asking got my phone number for two step verification. I had an email today.
I think i ll change my password and ignore the email.

Teal99 · 05/08/2020 20:37

I logged into my account and got a message saying that they were going to send a verification code to my mobile as part of their new enhanced security. I got the code and did the business. So, they are not all scams. If you suddenly get an email out of the blue asking you to put the code in out of the blue, ignore it.

somedayillbesaturdaynite · 05/08/2020 20:38

I've had this before, I needed to restart my phone
