Can I ask the height of your 6-8 year olds?

Had DS and DSS at a local attraction recently that had height restrictions so measured DS against one of the boards and he is just over 140cm he's 7yrs 6months. I've obviously noticed he's on the tall side but it seems he's had a big growth spurt in lockdown. Just seems crazy hes now technically tall enough to not need a car seat (not that we plan on going without anytime soon)

How tall are your kids of similar ages? Reckon its just genetics?

My 6.5 yo DS is 116cm

That does sound tall. If you google you can find charts that show where the height sits as a percentile.

My 7y2m old DS is 120cm.

7yo dd is 118cm I think. We had tears last year when she wasn't big enough for a 120cm ride I come from a family of giants, all over 6ft but I'm only 5'3 and DH is 5'10 so wouldn't expect her to be particularly tall.

My 11 year old girl is 140.5cm. Your boy is tall!!!

My 8y 2m DS is 124cm.

@AnotherFuckingUsername that is big! My DS is "only" a size 3. Are you/dad/other family members tall?

I think my son is 130cm and he’s on the 75th centile for height at 7yrs 9 months.

DS6.5 is 130 cm. He's very tall for his age.

DD is 8y4m. He on the taller side but not the tallest in his class, not measured for a while but I reckon he's nearing 140cm now.

Like you, he will be staying in his car seat until he doesn't fit. He is only a cm or 2 shorter than his 11 yr old sister, much to her displeasure. She still uses her high back car seat, it's comfy and has side head rests, but she starts secondary school in Sept so I probably should persuade her to give it up.

If your Ds was measured out and about, was that with shoes on?

DD (8) stands out amongst her peers, at 142 cm/size 4.5-5 feet.

@xyzandabc yes with shoes on when out and about but we checked at home as we track it on one of those height chart momento things he has every 6 months

@YerAWizardHarry I know, I got the assistant in Clarks to measure him 3 times . My dad is tall at 6'4" but with 'normal' size 10 feet. My mum and I are both around 5'10" with size 9 feet so I suspect I am responsible for his flippers.

@AnotherFuckingUsername we think DS's height has come from Grandads too, I'm just shy of 5ft6 and his dad is 6ft but both Grandads were/are around the 6ft5/6 mark

@YerAWizardHarry I was walking along beside him the other day and out an arm around him. It struck me what a comfortable height he is for me now but in another year or so it'll be uncomfortable. Soon they will be towering above us!

My six yr old, nearly 7 is 140cm and on the 98th percentile for height so your son is tall. My son takes after his dad whereas my 12 yr old daughter is only 5 cms talker, she definitely takes after me!!

DD is 5.5, 126cm with size 13 feet she towers over the other kids in her year!

DT's are 7.10
One is 135cm and size 2 shoe
Other is 131cm and size 3 shoe.
I'm 5'6 and DH is 6'4.

@Quornflakegirl thats interesting to see the twin perspective (I'm a twin too!). Were they born big?

Wow OP I’m only 20cm taller than your son and I’m an adult! My 7.5 yr old is about average height and is 125cm.

He is the tallest in his class but only just, although he is also the youngest. There are kids in his class a whole year older than him (end of Jan born, in Scotland so went to school "early" at 4.5)

Both my dds were over 135cm by age 7. Fully grown they are now 5ft 8in & 5ft 11in. Ds was the same. He is still growing at 15 but currently just over 6ft.
