www.gov.uk/guidance/get-a-discount-with-the-eat-out-to-help-out-scheme#find-a-restaurant

Enter your postcode, see the restaurants within 2 miles which have signed up. Really pleased to see a lot of the smaller places near me have signed up for the scheme and will definitely be supporting them.

Its a shame you cant select a distance. Two miles just about gets me onto a 'b' road😁
Nothing is coming up for me, but there are some chains (pubs) reasonably close by.

SockYarn · 28/07/2020 08:12

I think it's to limit results - I put a city centre glasgow postcode in and it returned hundreds.

Doilooklikeatourist · 28/07/2020 08:14

As @Vicbarbarkley said , nothing within 2 miles of me , 5 miles would be better

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/07/2020 08:25

Thanks this is really helpful- quite excited to eat out again soon

rslsys · 28/07/2020 08:31

Someone must be listening, it showed a 5 mile radius search for me.

SockYarn · 28/07/2020 08:34

I think it depends on the postcode you enter - i put in my parents very rural postcode, there's nothing within 2 miles so it defaults to 5 where there is more.

It is 5 miles for me, has it changed already maybe? 83 results for me, not counting the chains. 24 for where we are going on holiday. I wonder why Nando’s hasn’t signed up. Not a fan myself but the kids are!

TinyMetalBirds · 28/07/2020 08:35

Sorry, to clarify 5 miles for me and I live in a town.

SockYarn · 28/07/2020 08:36

Hadn't noticed Nando's wasn't on there - DD will be gutted. Lots of other chains though - McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Prezzo, Five Guys. But I think we'll be sticking local with the independent Italian and Indian down the road.

Shows within 5 miles here and we're in a seaside holiday destination, so loads of pubs and cafes on our doorstep. Maybe enter the postcode of where your nearest restaurants are to find out which are part participating?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/07/2020 08:40

My fav local restaurant and our local kids cafe is on there so that works for me!
Silly question but will they definitely pass on the saving- I guess it will be on the bill?

Soubriquet · 28/07/2020 08:42

I just can’t take the name seriously....

But then I do have a dirty mind Grin

Eat out to help out Wink

Sunnysidegold · 28/07/2020 08:42

That's really useful thanks op.

SockYarn · 28/07/2020 08:44

it's gone to 5 miles for me now too - but I think only returns a maximum of 100 results. (Which is plenty to choose from anyway!)

parrotonmyshoulder · 28/07/2020 08:44

Doesn’t even believe my postcode is real...

TinyMetalBirds · 28/07/2020 08:45

Oh, it did that to me - you have to use capital letters

lljkk · 28/07/2020 08:47

17 within 5 miles for me. But I want somewhere > 5 miles; want to cycle there and waddle back. :)

noColinleftbehind · 28/07/2020 08:47

I hope Rushi knows what he's doing because it sounds like a bloody bonkers scheme to me.
McDonalds and KFC have signed up! When have they ever needed people to be encouraged to eat with them? And the timing is weird as it clashes with Boris's war on obesity.

I know it covers food and soft drink- does it cover coffees?

SockYarn · 28/07/2020 08:49

Coffee is a soft drink so yes I would think so. I noticed Costa have signed up, and Starbucks.

OP posts:
PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 28/07/2020 08:52

I’m off on holiday and it looks like a fair number of independent cafes and pubs near our cottage have signed up so I’m planning on eating out for breakfast, lunch and dinner for all three days Grin.

When we get back home I’m rather tempted by Hawksmoor.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 28/07/2020 09:02

I think it's ridiculous to include the big tax-avoiding chains like Starbucks. I'll be sticking firmly to local independents.

HexyAndIKnowIt · 28/07/2020 09:09

Strangely there is a hungry horse a two minute walk away from me and it’s not listed. But if you go to their website they are part of the scheme.
Not convinced this is a full list.
Thinking about it there is a Toby as well within five miles and that’s not on there either, despite having an email the other day from Toby telling me they are taking part.

Oh and weirdly my local Screwfix is on the list!!

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 28/07/2020 09:11

There’s a caveat right at the top of the list Hector saying “your search results may not include participating restaurants in larger chains: see separate list of participating chains for details”

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 28/07/2020 09:12

I think it's a bonkers scheme but tempted to go to my local indie pub as I don't want them to go under!

That’s daft considering all the local McD’s and KFC are on it.

Sadly my favourite small independent little pub isn’t on there. I’d hoped it might be as we went last week and meal costs had shot up to almost double.
