Sylvanian family game changer!

LordGarmadon · 27/07/2020 19:56

I was tidying up the kids' toys today to prepare for the builders (and the dust). As I packed away the obscene amount of Sylvanian family paraphernalia and attempted to carry it upstairs in as few trips as possible, I discovered that the building stack on top of each other!

DD is now the proud owner of a Sylvanian family tower block on her bedside table.

I'm so amazed that I felt I needed to pass this on! You're welcome.

Thanks. Our living room is currently a sylvanian village and driving me nuts. I'm sure dd will love a tower 😉

Delbelleber · 28/07/2020 02:03

Thank you for sharing that op. A thread about sylvanians has made me smile Grin

Thisismytimetoshine · 28/07/2020 02:13

Are all the buildings the same size?

LordGarmadon · 28/07/2020 08:04

They're different sizes so only stack in a certain order...
For example, the starter set country cottage only fits at the top but did fit on all her other buildings, the school fits on the cake shop but not vice versa.

It's blown my mind.

Come on @LordGarmadon we need a picture.

giletrouge · 28/07/2020 08:07

Aww - I never knew that! My kids Sylvanian days are long gone, but I loved them - can we have a pic or two of the Sylvanian tower block?

MiddleClassProblem · 28/07/2020 08:10

But I thought it tells you that. Like this pic. I think it’s newer thing though as mine all had pointy roofs as a kid. But all the shops now have flat rims and only dd’s houses does too so you can put the cottage on top.

Sylvanian family game changer!
Deathraystare · 28/07/2020 08:18

I always wanted a Sylvanian family! At 60 now and living in a small room it ain't gonna happen:(

Kpo58 · 28/07/2020 08:19

We need pictures or it didn't happen! Wink

RosieLemonade · 28/07/2020 08:20

Very timely thread for me. DD is now starting her collection. I’m taking her shopping for some bits this week. What are your must have bits?

MysteryParcels · 28/07/2020 08:20

I always wanted a canal boat, although tbf I was never that interested in the buildings, it was all about the animals. This thread has made me smile Smile

happypotamus · 28/07/2020 08:21

Yes, we have the supermarket and it showed you on the box how you can attach other building on top. I think we did have a house on top for a while. If we get any more buildings, we will have to start building up because we are running out of space.

IKEA888 · 28/07/2020 08:22

wow great . we have the now 16year olds stuff in the loft ready for our youngest !

LordGarmadon · 28/07/2020 08:39

"On the box"... Well, I suddenly feel like Captain Scott when he reached the South Pole and discovered Amundsen had been there first!

@RosieLemonade what's your daughter into? It's all so lovely! My parents bought my DD the house first and she had a long wait between her birthday and Christmas before she got anything else... she loves her car and school bus, she loves the mouse baby with its cot and high chair. Someone bought her the cake shop but she isn't that interested in it but I think the tiny cakes are still a bit fiddly for her.
The country cottage has been a garage for her vehicles for most of this year!

@Deathraystare the little figures don’t take up much space!

I remember once going into DC’s room to fetch something. No children in there but MIL was playing with Sylvanians Smile

RedDeadQueen · 28/07/2020 09:06

What age did you all start your Sylvanian Family collections?
And when are they played until?

Thinking of getting some for DD, however not sure if she's too old, too young etc. Never had them myself, though I always wanted them!

RosieLemonade · 28/07/2020 09:07

I’m looking at the house boat and I love that. She’s loves babies and family games so probably looking at a house. She has the twins in the pram but no mummy for them. I wouldn’t normally buy her anything like this not for birthday and Christmas. It’s just she was sent nothing but cash as her birthday was in deep lockdown and that’s not very fun when you are three!

My mum bought DD's first house when she was 4. We now have 3 houses, a department store, a supermarket, a nursery, a car and the bus that goes with the nursery! I love them, they are cute and beautifully made, but I spend hours of my life picking up the tiny pieces. Our Sylvanians can't just go shopping nicely, they ransack the shop, knock all the food off the shelves and scatter it over the floor in their 'village!' I suspect the cats might have something to do with this, especially as the supermarket doesn't have a roof so they can stand in it. I think I played with my Sylvanians until I was at least 9. Ours are DD2's, because my mum wanted her to have something that hadn't already belonged to DD1. DD1 also plays with them and she is 9, and she talks about her friend's extensive collection.
MiddleClassProblem · 28/07/2020 09:29

We started when DD was 3, she’s now 5. She played with them on and off but is now really into them.

We have the cottage, cedar terrace, seaside restaurant, bakery, school and the department store. The shops come with a lot of accessories but the houses don’t so you will want to get a furniture set to go along side those.

LordGarmadon · 28/07/2020 13:02

My parents bought DD the starter country cottage for her 2nd birthday but there wasn't much to play with and she just kept putting the rabbit to bed and getting her up!

The following christmas was close to her 3rd birthday and she got loads more from family. She still finds some of the smaller bits tricky but she and her 4 year old brother love it. They mix it up with the Brio train set and take the animals on day trips.

I've been known to spend a few hours setting it up for the kids Wink to play! And then watch in horror as it gets ransacked.

@RosieLemonade if you get a house I'd go for one bigger than the country cottage and then get some accessories ... if she has enough birthday money.

Does she have a key to your house? Do you find the Sylvanians in different scenarios each evening when you get home?

RedDeadQueen · 28/07/2020 14:01

Ah, so 7yrs is probably too old to start perhaps?

motherrunner · 28/07/2020 14:04

@RedDeadQueen No way! DD had 3 sets for Christmas (she was 8 at the time). She absolutely adores them.

Blown away by the stacking! Off to try it out!
