Sylvanian family game changer!

I was tidying up the kids' toys today to prepare for the builders (and the dust). As I packed away the obscene amount of Sylvanian family paraphernalia and attempted to carry it upstairs in as few trips as possible, I discovered that the building stack on top of each other!

DD is now the proud owner of a Sylvanian family tower block on her bedside table.

I'm so amazed that I felt I needed to pass this on! You're welcome.

@DukeOfEarlGrey

Loved Sylvanians and am weirdly invested in the notion of stackable buildings despite having no DC of my own and no Sylvanians anymore!

My favourites were the duck family - I adored the three little ducklings:

Those ducks are fabulous... that hat!!

What's the best Sylvanian gateway drug? My DP is on board with buying a shit tonne of them for Christmas for us the kids.

Crumpetswithbutter · 29/07/2020 09:47

@Trumpton

3years ago I dug out the old Sylvanians and the grandchildren had a Sylvanian day . It all lives in roll out boxes under the spare bed and we have more coming for birthdays . Funnily enough the barge is very rarely touched ! The second photo is them at Christmas with their tree .
No, I have the barge, I love it! I also have that caravan (I feel we may be of a similar age)
TwiceAsNice22 · 29/07/2020 10:04

@DukeOfEarlGreym the ducks are so cute! They should bring them back

Trumpton · 29/07/2020 12:24

@Crumpetswithbutter
They were my children’s in the 1980s .

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 29/07/2020 12:27

Oh my gosh I always wanted Sylvanian families playsets but they were too expensive as a child. This brings it all back! I did get a secondhand rabbit couple at a car boot sale at one point and treasured them for years Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 29/07/2020 12:40

I am too old to have had Sylvanian families as a child, although my younger sisters had them, but I have always gazed wistfully at them in shops. DS never showed the slightest bit of interest...

Do you think it's one of those things you can get into when you're retired and everyone expects you to go a bit bonkers anyway? I'm thinking in the vein of Jenny Joseph's poem 'Warning' about suddenly starting to wear purple in old age.

Arthersleep · 29/07/2020 12:48

My friend stores hers in the garage. She recently discovered that a family of mice had moved into the house, had babies and had been sleeping in the beds. It was both sweet and minging in equal measure!

Trumpton · 29/07/2020 12:48

Christmas hats for the gang .

They were definitely the last toys to go for us, (now in storage for future grandchildren.) They came out for the first few year 7 play dates, (okay, the play got a bit Quentin Tarantino!) but I think you could justify buying them for a seven year old.

RedDeadQueen · 29/07/2020 19:02

Good to hear Smile

What should I start with? And how do I justify it to DD, when she loves Enchantimals / Lego so much?

LordGarmadon · 30/07/2020 14:26

Where's the Sylvanian pictures? I've been waiting patiently for pictures while ours are packed away!

Oh this has brought back wonderful memories . Used to adore my sylvanians - we used to stack them years ago so they had a four floor mansion ... I also desperately wanted the canal boat and never did get it . Did have a red bus which I used as a holiday home - remember one very hot summer on which I took the bus packed with wee otters and squirrels on a tour of the back garden ...

My neighbours had hundreds of the 80s sylvanians, vividly remember sitting in their tiny little front cupboard age 4 playing with them . Their toys were amazing as their mum let them mix them up (which was a grave sin in our house!) so the sylvanians also had Duplo dinosaurs wandering around, barbie clothes, littlest pet shop pets and playdough for dinner ... absolutely fantastic .

My mum took the whole lot to charity years and years ago along with my polly pockets, puppy in my pocket, and teeny weeny families . Would give anything to see them all again now ... and I’m still tempted to buy the canal boat one day !

Useful and important Sylvanian information.....
In America and Canada they are called Callico Critters. So if you come across eBay etc sales and they are called that - they are genuine !!!

bookmum08 · 30/07/2020 14:47

It's like a parallel universe Grin

It's currently bedtime for my DD's Marshmallow Mouse family.

It's all I have out at the moment, but you needed Sylvanian photos right? Wink

Arghhh the cute! My eyes hurt!

Love it!

IdblowJonSnow · 01/08/2020 06:53

Feeling smug as already knew this! (Proud owner of 7 storey boarding school, well DD younger is!)

wherethewavesarehighest · 01/08/2020 07:08

I found the barge in a charity shop for £1 a couple of years ago. It came with no accessories obviously but dd loves it because she can make her sylvanians go to the loo Grin
