By myself, all tickets are a fiver & I was actually the only person in the screening! Bought my ticket online, showed them my email and there was hand sanitiser everywhere as well as wipes. In through the main front door and had to exit out the back.

As I left the auditorium, there was a member of staff in mask, gloves & visor waiting to go in and clean.

I really enjoyed it. Felt very safe, great value & will go again next week I think.

All the films are repeats, some from recently like Emma & Little Women as well as some from last year and some classics.

God, that's fantastic... Envy

AlCalavicci · 10/07/2020 19:16

Ooh what chain was it ?

PilatesPeach · 10/07/2020 19:16

Get the feeling you are taking the mick. Was posting as this is chat and some people might be considering going and was just talking about how I found it.

Showcase. I believe Odeon still closed, Cineworld due to re-open on 31st & not sure about Vue.

I might take DS soon if there are some good kids films on! Glad you had a good experience, I miss the cinema.

Anewmum2018 · 10/07/2020 19:18

Oh my goodness I would love that so much! We only have cineworld here and it’s still shut. Such a pleasure to go to the cinema alone. I hope you had a good time, I can’t wait to go back!

HermioneWeasley · 10/07/2020 19:19

Good to know, thanks

Zhampagne · 10/07/2020 19:21

@PilatesPeach I think @Thisismytimetoshine was just showing that she is green with envy.

Twilbury · 10/07/2020 19:22

The only one open near us is the Everyman, so 30 pound for 2 tickets to see a movie I could probably get on Prime for less than a fiver.

AlCalavicci · 10/07/2020 19:31

Aww there all vue near me, maybe they will reopen soon too .
What did you see ?

Thisismytimetoshine · 11/07/2020 11:31

I wasn't taking the mick at all, I'd genuinely love to do this.

DullDullWeather · 11/07/2020 11:57

Same as @AlCalavicci re Vue

Horsemad · 11/07/2020 11:59

Would love to have the whole cinema to myself! 😆

Our local (independent) one is sold out for the first few days. 😲

cyclingmad · 11/07/2020 13:20

Cannot wait for Cineworld to open up!

I used to go during day times on and often had cinema to myself of a few people - love that feeling.

Cineworld are doing the same a mixture of a few new films that are cleary ready to show plus lots of classic films like goonies are going to be shown as part of some Classic Films celebration? something along those lines.

cyclingmad · 11/07/2020 13:21

Are they still selling popcorn? I'll probably take my own though

Fatted · 11/07/2020 13:24

I'm really jealous. We all really miss the cinema. I know it's cheesy, but you really can't replicate the cinema experience. I've always loved it since I was a kid.

Quirrelsotherface · 11/07/2020 15:44

Sounds lovely, very envious. Was hoping my local Odeon had opened but you've just answered my question Sad

MarcelineMissouri · 11/07/2020 22:44

Dh works for a cinema chain. They opened their first site yesterday. Most chains are waiting until the end of the month as there are no new films out until August, and that’s assuming they don’t move their release dates again.

I can’t tell you how hard they have worked to try and make things as safe as possible. I promise you they really do care. People are terrified that cinema won’t recover and so many chains and sites will close permanently. Not only is there the concern about whether or not people will come back to the cinema, they also can’t survive without new releases and with things as they are in America right now it’s looking increasingly likely that the new films due out (mainly Tenet and Mulan) will get pushed back again.

I do love stumbling across threads like this as it is lovely to hear people returning and feeling safe and enjoying their experience. It is a very worrying time for cinemas (as it is for many similar industries I know) So if you’re thinking about going please do!! Cinemas may not have always had the best reputation for cleaning etc in the past but they fully understand that people feeling safe is essential to their jobs and survival! They will be as clean and safe as you could hope for! Now bring on the new films.....

MarcelineMissouri · 11/07/2020 22:47

@Quirrelsotherface if it’s an Odeon you’re after then it’s worth checking their website. I believe they opened 10 sites last weekend but are delaying opening more until the end of the month.

Vue and Cineworld are both aiming for 31st July based on new films in August.
Everyman and Showcase are mostly open now I believe.

AlCalavicci · 13/07/2020 07:32

@MarcelineMissouri
It's nice to have a insiders view . Is your DPs cinema selling tickets at the kiosk or is it all on line , what about drinks and snacks ?

I have some hoildays due soon I may book a mid week day so I can go to the flicks once its open on my own .
I hope they show some old classics

Crunchymum · 13/07/2020 07:38

Surely it's not financially viable to open a whole cinema for such low foot fall?

Dotinthecity · 13/07/2020 07:41

I'll be straight in the cinema as soon as ours opens. I can't wait.

EnlightenedOwl · 13/07/2020 07:42

We will definitely go when they reopen x

PrivateSpidey · 13/07/2020 07:46

I miss the cinema so much! As PP said, you can't recreate the experience - there's nothing like the big screen!

MarcelineMissouri · 13/07/2020 07:56

@AlCalavicci it is online booking only, as well as reducing contact this also ensures they have people’s details. I think most cinema food is still available except for pic n mix. Film wise it is a mix of classics and the films that were released just before the cinemas closed - Trolls has been the most popular film so far!

@Crunchymum the cinemas are between a rock and a hard place. No they will all be losing money right now, this goes for just about any cinema that has reopened worldwide. But if they don’t open then the new films will just continue to get pushed back. As it is of course, with America closing back up again it is hard to see films coming out anytime soon which could be catastrophic. In addition, the longer they stay closed the longer it may take people to start returning. Eg the 65 people that came on Friday will hopefully feel comfortable to come again, and will also hopefully have told some friends that they went to the cinema and it was a good and safe experience....

@Dotinthecity and @EnlightenedOwl glad to hear it!

I also just wanted to add a note about air conditioning as this is a thing at the moment - so cinemas in the UK operate with roof top units that are constantly taking air out and replacing it with fresh air. This is quite different to the split units that just pull the same air around and heat or cool it. There is a graphic going around from doctors in Texas that lists cinema as one of the most dangerous activities which I hate seeing as this will be based on American circumstances and guess what type of air condition they mainly have! The split units that just recirculate air!

Also, in cinemas you are supposed to be quiet and not even talk, thus removing the singing/shouting issue that keeps being mentioned as well!! So all in all I hope people will realise that sitting somewhere away from other people with fresh air being constantly brought in from outside is actually not such a bad place to be!
