I went to the cinema this afternoon

By myself, all tickets are a fiver & I was actually the only person in the screening! Bought my ticket online, showed them my email and there was hand sanitiser everywhere as well as wipes. In through the main front door and had to exit out the back.

As I left the auditorium, there was a member of staff in mask, gloves & visor waiting to go in and clean.

I really enjoyed it. Felt very safe, great value & will go again next week I think.

All the films are repeats, some from recently like Emma & Little Women as well as some from last year and some classics.

I remember when the final Hunger Games was in the cinema

Me and dh went for my birthday.

It was us two, and one other couple.

That was it

Everyone else was queued you for the new Star Wars movie including several dresses up people

It was nice

We moved to better seating Grin

Very important question...

What did you see?

Empty cinema sounds like my idea of heaven.Grin

fairydustandpixies · 13/07/2020 08:04

Oooh, that's great! I have a Cineworld pass so can book online but have been worried (although they're not open yet!). My main concern is the air conditioning (mask will be in place!) but booking online is great and you can see which other seats are booked before you go - you can change your mind if it's too busy!!

I've been nervous/excited about going - OP, you've switched that to the more excited level!! Thanks for posting! 🥰

Our cinema is an independent and not open yet. I can't wait for it to open and we will definitely be going.

Nothing like watching a film on a big screen with, hopefully, no interruptions.

thelikelylass · 13/07/2020 08:16

I think I will go this week after this!
We went for a meal indoors (beautiful building, church like ceilings) and it was fabulous! We also went to our local and that too was fabulous - spaced out, calm, seating.. I actually prefer this but I do wonder how much longer businesses can survive with smaller numbers of customers and all the extra costs. I am really concerned about independent businesses and the potential loss of these.

Turkeydrumstick · 13/07/2020 08:20

This is really good to know! Me and DP love a meal and cinema as a bit of a date night. We went to miller and carter yesterday and it was brilliant- one way system and the only person you come anywhere near is the waiter. Can’t wait to go to the cinema again!

thelikelylass · 13/07/2020 08:27

Turkeydrumstick that's where we went! Miller and Carter! It was fabulous and my first time there, so impressed with how they managed the customers, would recommend to anyone.

We are going later today. Booked the tickets last night. Can't wait!

oakwood13 · 13/07/2020 11:49

Nice to read- I'd love to go but the only films that interest me are ones I have already seen. My BFI membership and their BFI player has been a saviour over these last few months.

MarcelineMissouri · 13/07/2020 15:38

I made a request for The Matrix to be shown and it’s going to be on next week! Very excited to go and see that at the cinema as I think I’ve only ever watched it on tv!

Abracadabra12345 · 13/07/2020 15:46

@PrivateSpidey

I miss the cinema so much! As PP said, you can't recreate the experience - there's nothing like the big screen!
I agree! It’s like stepping back into the womb and I love watching on my own in an empty auditorium.

I am so happy to hear such a positive experience and if we want cinemas to survive, we have to start using them. Sadly our Vue won’t reopen yet and I’ve been having withdrawal symptoms !

TheWindOnTheMoon · 13/07/2020 16:02

I really want to take DS to the cinema soon. We had planned to go and see The Secret Garden before lockdown. I think its release date got put back so hoping we didn't miss it.

Good to know about the air conditioning in UK cinemas. I'm feeling more reassured. Think we might give it a go. I love going to the cinema but DH & DD don't, so it's usually just me & DS Smile

Also, really missing bowling. Can't wait to go again. Last time was about a week before lockdown & the DC loved it. Everywhere was spotlessly clean & staff working hard to keep everyone safe.

Whitney168 · 13/07/2020 16:07

I went last week too - £5 for The Shawshank Redemption which I've never seen and everyone raves about - loved it!

I have really missed the cinema, and Showcase so well spread out that it really did feel safe as houses. I'm not very good at concentrating on films at home, so I'm thrilled that cinema is back.

MarcelineMissouri · 13/07/2020 16:13

@TheWindOnTheMoon sadly The Secret Garden is another film that is being sent straight to video on demand. Due out on August 7th.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/07/2020 16:53

We went to the Cinema in Feb to see Judy. An 11am showing on a Sunday. There were 6 of us.
We’ll be doing the same again as soon as our woefully under-visited Picture House opens.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/07/2020 16:55

I think Skyliner is green with envy and not being nasty.

terriblyangryattimes · 13/07/2020 16:59

Me too! Took 3 kids with me, saw one other viewer the whole time, an old gent sat in our screen about 3 rows away and that was it! Super clean, staff in masks and gloves and shorter ads at the beginning too- win win!

shinynewapple2020 · 13/07/2020 17:03

@maddiemookins16mum

I think Skyliner is green with envy and not being nasty.
The green with envy emoji was from @Thisismytimetoshine . For some reason known only to herself @Skyliner001 gave her a biscuit. So yes, she was being unpleasant .

Glad you had a good time OP it's great to hear good experiences of things opening up again.

Skyliner001 · 13/07/2020 17:09

😂😂😂

LividLaughLovely · 13/07/2020 17:10

I have a Cineworld card; I normally go one or two times a week. Had a baby at the start of lockdown, and was expecting to do baby cinema once or twice a week (as well as all the other lovely baby groups and activities... Confused)

I actually don’t feel like I could go back though. Despite all the safety measures, and wanting the cinema to survive, I just don’t think I could feel safe.

Skyliner001 · 13/07/2020 17:12

@Thisismytimetoshine

What the fuck is up with you, Skyliner?! Do you have a comprehension problem? Shove your biscuit where the sun don't shine.

Our lovely indy cinema has reopened on the basis described above & we'll definitely go over the summer.

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/07/2020 17:49

Do you only speak in biscuits, Skyliner? Idiot.
