What is your possession that you have owned for the longest and still have?

I'm guessing most people's longest owned possession must be some sort of teddy bear? Am I right? Mine is anyway, given to me on the day I was born and I still have. Looks a bit bedraggled now but I would be gutted to ever lose him!

I have a silver christening cup which was sent by relatives in America. This might be off topic but I have my grandma's sideboard bought in 1918, when she died in 1979 I was the only one who wanted it. It's been on several house moves, it's just fabulous, she loved it and I love it.

Grandmi · 09/07/2020 21:54

My Teddy. He will be 57 in August 😊

mogloveseggs · 09/07/2020 21:55

Educationwhateducation · 09/07/2020 21:55

Mine are two commemorative Charles and Diana coins to celebrate their wedding. My mum told me that every family was given one for each child (is this true?). I was a year old and my brother was four. Anyway I still have them.

Up until last month, my oldest possession was a book my sister brought to me as a gift when she met me for the first time at the maternity hospital in 1970. She was eight when I was born so she would read it to me until I was old enough to read it myself.
That book has travelled with me to every home I've ever lived in, in two countries, different cities...
My grandsons found it, colored in it extensively and ripped the pages to shreds. I cried my eyes out when I found it in pieces stuffed under the sofa. It almost made it to my 50th birthday in a few weeks.

elp30 · 09/07/2020 21:58

Sorry, forgot to mention that I do own one intact page of the kid book so that will make it to 50.

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2020 21:59

My double ended Cinderella doll my aunt made me for my 8th birthday. She is very delicate now and I think all 4 of her arms have fallen off!

Megatron · 09/07/2020 22:00

Yep, teddy that my dad brought to the hospital the day I was born. He's 53 now so ageing like the rest of us. Grin

Ohffs66 · 09/07/2020 22:04

I'm fairly sure it's my eyeliner sharpener...If I'm right it's about 35 years old and has outlived many inferior sharpeners!

My parents have a Victorian barley twist, long legged side table that was my grandmother’s. It is mahogany and very beautiful. Unfortunately my grandmother promised it to my brother.

MikeUniformMike · 09/07/2020 22:05

A toy but it is not a teddy bear.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 09/07/2020 22:06

Yes, same, my teddy I got given for my first Christmas.

EmbarrassedUser · 09/07/2020 22:07

My baby blanket. Had it since I was born. I slept with it until I was about 18 Blush

SierraOscar · 09/07/2020 22:07

My toy rabbit that was given to me when I was born. She still sleeps with me every night although I do need to preform some surgery on her soon as one her ears is hanging off.

sar302 · 09/07/2020 22:08

Yep, a teddy that was in my cot at the hospital when I was born. It's nearly 40 yrs old now. My toddler walks around with it, saying "Gentle teddy, you're very dimportant" 😂

QuestionableMouse · 09/07/2020 22:09

I have a bear I've had since birth. 35 year old. Also have some model horses that are probably 30 odd years old.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 09/07/2020 22:10

I’ve got a soft toy cat that I think I got either for Christmas or birthday when I was 9 or 10, can’t remember.

Also a Sony clock radio that was a Christmas present when I was about 12 - still going strong on my bedside table.

I’ve inherited quite a few kitchen items from my mum that are older than me (38), including a kenwood hand whisk that is as good as the day it was bought.

I’ve also got some Christmas tree baubles that are older than me. I love having a mishmash of decorations gathered over four or five decades on my tree.

Zisforstripyoss · 09/07/2020 22:11

A bunny teddy for me as well. She's very bedraggled and she lives in a special drawer in my dresser. I let DD2 sleep with her last week as both her comfort blankets had to go in the wash and I was almost offended when she said my lovely bunny was "ok, but not a blankie."

Scarby9 · 09/07/2020 22:11

My VERY well-loved bear, given to me when I was born.
Arms used for teething, head sewn on after it was pulled off in a fight with my brother, third new nose, appendix operation on his squeak. He may look sad and tatty, but I still see the bear he once was.

timtam23 · 09/07/2020 22:12

My teddy. My mum was a teacher and her class made him for her as a leaving present, in their sewing lessons. He's called Fred. He's unstuffed at the moment as i'm trying to renovate him (he has had some previous unforgiving renovation attempts). Poor Fred is not looking his best at the moment but I am hopeful. He has a knitted outfit my mum made for him when I was about 6 or 7 as well.

AnneElliott · 09/07/2020 22:17

A knitted doll I was given when I was 3 months old. I'm now 41.

thenightsky · 09/07/2020 22:17

My teddy is 61. He's been recovered at least 4 times.

My lovely Elna sewing machine is 40. I got it for my 21st birthday and it was bought at the Ideal Home Exhibition. Its one of the original Swiss made ones.

Curlyshabtree · 09/07/2020 22:19

I’ve had a comb for 23 years. And a mug for 37 years.

ButterfliesandMoths · 09/07/2020 22:20

My tweezers. 27 years I've had them, They're nothing special but they're perfect and haven't been able to find another pair like them.

unstableunicorn · 09/07/2020 22:23

A toy duck (very imaginatively named Mr Lucky Ducky) that I've had since birth! Surprisingly still pretty clean and intact
