I'm guessing most people's longest owned possession must be some sort of teddy bear? Am I right? Mine is anyway, given to me on the day I was born and I still have. Looks a bit bedraggled now but I would be gutted to ever lose him!

Sooty - he is over 50

PickAChew · 09/07/2020 22:30

My flute. I've had it for 40 years. It needs a lot of tlc and I've not tried playing it for years, now.

SapphosRock · 09/07/2020 22:31

My Boots advantage card recently celebrated its 22nd birthday.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 09/07/2020 22:35

A tiny dolly with beans inside with a little plastic head with a bonnet on. My nana gave it to me when I was a toddler and I use to roll it between my fingers. Its ridiculously precious to me and I'd be devastated if I lost it. I'm not normally sentimental!

TJH1 · 09/07/2020 22:37

@RealityBased That’s so lovely.

MushyPeasAreTheDevilsFood · 09/07/2020 22:40

I have teddies from my childhood at my Parents. The oldest thing in my home, apart from photos, is a laura ashley fancy evening wear skirt. Electric blue. With netting. I love it. Had it Twenty years.

SoMuchToBits · 09/07/2020 22:41

@PickAChew I've had my clarinet for 43 years and still play it. But it's not as old as my teddy bear.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/07/2020 22:41

You're right. Panda, taken to me in hospital by my dad. He's in my wardrobe as he's too delicate to have anywhere the kids might get hold of him!

NotMeNoNo · 09/07/2020 22:42

I still have a doll and teddy bear that I've had since before I can remember. And a bit of embroidery (early starter) seen in photos when I was 4 or 5.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 09/07/2020 22:45

Foxie. My dad brought him to the hospital when he came to bring newborn me home. He'll be 43 soon.

Noworrieshere · 09/07/2020 22:45

My cot blanket. Was on my bed all of my childhood and at university, it's now in a box in my wardrobe but I do wash it and have a snuggle with it every now and again

Mumthedogsbeensick · 09/07/2020 22:47

A Gnasher badge from when I joined the Dennis the Menace Fan Club in 1983!

Germolenequeen · 09/07/2020 22:49

My oldest family possession is my Nana's engagement ring circa 1920 💗
I have antique jewellery that is older bought my my DH in estate sales

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 09/07/2020 22:53

I have a teddy I've had since I was 2, and a bracelet that was a 16th birthday gift. I think those are the things I've owned for the longest consecutive time.

I also have a bunch of kids books and knick knacks from my childhood that I left behind when I left home after university that I reinherited when my parents sold the family house and cleared out the loft 20 years later.

AdaFromYorkshire · 09/07/2020 22:56

My teddy from the day I was born, now a bit faded and saggy at nearly 60. Also a small table which is about four years older than me. We use it all the time.

newyeardelurker · 09/07/2020 23:07

My trumpet which I've had for over 30 years I think is my oldest possession. I have some older sheet music too.

But on reflection I have my baby book - barely completed - and DD has my christening bracelet.

BlueSkyPlease · 09/07/2020 23:09

Oh I've loved reading this thread! I completely forgot I started it this morning! Some very special memories through treasured possessions.

@mawbags I also had that record player!

@saphosrocks I'm undeniably impressed by the age of your boots advantage card

Ooh and for some weird reason my survival swimming badge the one where you had to blow up your pyjamas and dive for a brick Confused

WinterAndRoughWeather · 09/07/2020 23:11

Oh! I’ve also got my cycling proficiency badge, which must have been from year 5 or 6.

redastherose · 09/07/2020 23:15

Old fashioned window with pictures behind advent calendar in the shape of an Angel. Given to me for Christmas when I was about 2 by my Godmother. It's 48 years old. My godmother died when I was 3 so I have treasured her ever since and she comes out every Christmas.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 09/07/2020 23:18

My battered and threadbare teddy bear

Gilead · 09/07/2020 23:24

A sandalwood box given by a family friend when I was around 12, That makes it 50 years old.

thisstooshallpass · 09/07/2020 23:28

A cut glass trifle bowl. It was a wedding present to my DH's great grandma. It's over 100 years old.

anappleadaykeeps · 09/07/2020 23:29

The Ladybird Book of Knitting. I remember making the egg cup and "a knitted tie for father" when I was little in the late 70s. I've used it on lockdown, as I've attempted to knit a "grown up" jumper for the first time!

Also my lovely 1980s Hunter Green wellies "made in Scotland" and still going strong Smile

MrsPerks · 09/07/2020 23:29

A panda and a Fisher Price toy radio. (I also have a maternity blouse my mother wore whilst pregnant with me but that doesn't count!).
