Can you suggest non alcoholic drinks that taste like alcohol?

Just that really. Trying for a baby and like a drink for the social element but won’t drink alcohol so wonder if there’s any alternatives you could recommend?

What does alcohol taste like?!

starlight36 · 15/06/2020 21:27

Co-op do a ready mixed non-alcoholic gin and tonic. It actually tastes pretty good - much better than the M&S one.

Becks alcohol free tastes the same as the normal one

EspressoPatronum · 15/06/2020 21:31

Seedlip spice and tonic

Echobelly · 15/06/2020 21:32

Rock shandy is nice - half soda water, half lemonade, few splashes of angostura bitters (which are slightly alcoholic, but it's so little it doesn't count). Feels likes drinking something boozy but it isn't.

RubberDinghyRapids · 15/06/2020 21:33

Lagers are your best bet. Cobra and Stella are good. Becks is ok, but only 1-2 as it gets a weird aftertaste. St Peter's Without is a good stout fake.

Don't touch the wine.

I hate drinking 'non-alcoholic' anything so mostly just drink tonic water, either as is or with lemon/lime. With the amount of gin in a bar G&T, its hard to tell the difference between that and plain tonic anyway!

Nix2020 · 15/06/2020 21:37

Heineken 00 was decent not the same as the real thing though

Becks alcohol free tastes the same as the normal one

I can vouch for this 👍 exactly the same

dingdang · 15/06/2020 21:47

Alcohol free ciders are also good. As is Bavaria alcohol free wheat beer. They do tend to taste too sweet to have more than one though

2007Millie · 15/06/2020 22:05

Mojito without the alcohol. I lived on this whilst pregnant. Tastes exactly the same

MarciaDidia · 15/06/2020 22:13

Adnams white wine (AF)
Adnams rose wine (AF)
Belle & Co fizz - white or Rosé (AF)
Bitburger Drive
Peroni (AF)
Seedlip
Natura AF Rosé wine

My experience is that AF red wine is crap.

Pepperwand · 15/06/2020 22:19

Bundaberg lemon, lime and bitters. I only discovered it when I was in my third trimester and was annoyed I hadn't found it sooner. I still have it now if I don't fancy alcohol.

TeaAndBisquits · 15/06/2020 22:19

Stryyk - not gin is amazing!

NoodieRoodie · 15/06/2020 22:21

Robinsons crushed mint and lime cordial with soda water and ice, like a non alcoholic mojito

Palavah · 15/06/2020 22:23

I find AF beer really gassy.

I like tonic water by itself with ice and plenty of fresh lime and lemon.

You can do similar with any mixer or combination of mixers - i think the key is to make them not too sweet, so add citrus and/or bitters. You could also add a bit of vinegar, and some fresh herbs.

Seedlip etc get good reviews but not cheap.

DanniArthur · 15/06/2020 22:25

Non alcoholic kopperberg tastes exactly the same as their alcoholic ones. I love the strawberry and lime ones so much I still drink them even though I'm no longer breast feeding lol

Nomorewineever · 15/06/2020 22:26

I’ve been a dry January penguin for years. Depends if you mean absolute 000% or very very low. For very very low the absolute dupe is decent tonic and one dash of angostura bitters. Bitters is alcoholic but at one dash in a full glass of tonic renders it next to 0:? % and makes the drink taste dry and grown up.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 15/06/2020 22:29

I've been known just to have a tonic water on its own when I don't want a drink but do want that 6 o'clock feeling. Grapefruit and tonic is nice too and Heineken and Becks lagers are good.

Do not venture near the alcohol free wine though. Shudder.

MsJuniper · 15/06/2020 22:33

I like a vodka lime & lemonade in the summer so when I was pregnant I had it without the vodka. Just the right amount of sweet/tangy.

dicdicnurse · 15/06/2020 22:39

Becks Blue!

GreenGordon · 15/06/2020 22:43

Kombucha

OneNewName · 15/06/2020 22:46

Something with ginger always feels like alcohol to me if it's strong enough.

CherryPavlova · 15/06/2020 22:47

I avoid pretend alcohol and go with ginger beer or an elderflower presse. A flavoured tonic - Fentimans Rhubarb or Valencian Orange are nice.
