Single parent and I very much have the mentality that the children should get the best of the best, and I’ll be fine with a cheapo version.

Mattress being a case in point. And I’m fed up! So I’m going to splurge. Well, not Tempur mattress level of spend but prepared to go to £600

Simba? Emma? Or the more established silent night picket spring kind of mattress.

It needs to fit a small double (120 x 190) so reduces options but the above brands all do in this size.

I’d really appreciate some guidance!

Many thanks

Mine is coming tomorrow!! So much for 15-21days 🤣

LuckyAmy1986 · 18/06/2020 16:45

Simba here, it's heaven!

HPLikecraft · 18/06/2020 16:53

Bought 3 IKEA mattresses a few months ago: 2 middle of the range: for DDs bed and the guest bed, and one more expensive for DH and I. They're all fab, so comfy.

Those who purchased the hybrid - do you use a mattress protector? Are you happy with the mattress itself?

KitNCaboodle · 27/06/2020 18:52

Another vote for ikea here. Love it. Definitely the best mattress we’ve ever had. For the first few months, every night I got in it, I forgot how good it was.

Serafinaaa · 27/06/2020 19:43

I've slept on mine for three nights now. The weather has been so hot it's hard to assess the mattress but seems really comfortable!

@Serafinaaa

How long did you leave to air?
Did you get the mattress topper?
Thanks!

Serafinaaa · 28/06/2020 09:45

I left it 24 hours to air in a room with the window open. I haven't got any topper but I do have a waterproof mattress protector on.

DominaShantotto · 28/06/2020 10:39

We bought the Otty hybrid at the start of lockdown and it's amazing - I wake up without pain for the first time in years. Also have the pillows now (bought with the mattress but they only came the other day) and they are amazeballs.

DH has restless legs and our old mattress had such bad motion transfer I was feeling bloody seasick on a night when he was kicking away - none of this on this one! I bloody love it.

strandedatthedrivein · 28/06/2020 10:52

Hynos, the ones they use in premier inn. Money well spent imo.

Mirrorxx · 28/06/2020 10:53

Earlier this year we got a perfect mattress from loaf. It’s very good. We were undecided between this one or the muffin top but are happy with our choice

custardbear · 28/06/2020 11:00

Best thing we ever did was get an orthopaedic mattress then put a thick memory foam - so firm sleep with soft cloud type comfort! It's amazing
Topper is probably 6-8cm deep. It's got a bamboo impregnated cover which helps with the heat issues some people get with the memory foam mattress

Travelodge use the Travelodge mattress, which is by Sleepezee

@Serafinaaa

How’s everyone getting on with their Emma?

I bought a hybrid and so disappointed.
It was much firmer than expected so They sent a foam insert. It does improve the situation BUT if I’d wanted to sleep on a Very basic (they provide free) foam covering I would have gone for a budget mattress!

Almost certain I’ll be returning...

I’m thinking the next marshmallow mattress which is a Which Best Buy

TonytheDog · 17/07/2020 09:57

Atafdicted I get the Emma original and I'm disappointed. I also got the topper because the mattress felt too soft. When I opened the box I was a bit WTF. Like you, if I wanted to sleep on a cheap bit of foam I would have just got a cheap mattress and a piece of foam. I wonder if they send the same foam for whether it's too hard/too soft?
I woke up with so many aches the first week and I'm not getting g a good night's sleep at all. I'm also way too hot, so much so, that I have taken my duvet off completely and I've never done that before.
I too shall be returning it. I thought of asking to swap for the hybrid but that doesn't sound great either.

Atadaddicted · 17/07/2020 11:15

* Like you, if I wanted to sleep on a cheap bit of foam I would have just got a cheap mattress and a piece of foam. I wonder if they send the same foam for whether it's too hard/too soft?*

@TonytheDog

Same here!!

And the first topper they sent was absolutely disgusting. Huge yellow smelly stain. Second one better but you’re right. If I wanted cheap foam mattress I would have bought one.

I’m thinking rem-fit?

My Emma hybrid is being collected next Week... hooray!

TonytheDog · 17/07/2020 11:28

Ataddicted my foam was smelly with a big yellow stain on too! It was like the bits of foam you see rolled up, abandoned in the corner of an old haberdashery shop. When they said they'd send a free topper I was thinking it would be more 'made'? A seen, quilted thing not a stinky bit of old foam - in a great big mattress box!

I'm going to return it but I'm unsure what to get to replace it. I was so excited to finally get a decent mattress and it's been a massive disappointment.

I haven't heard of Rem-fit?

Atadaddicted · 17/07/2020 11:32

So this was the yellow stained one against the second one they sent.

They had tried to say the smelly yellow stain was totally normal. Well how come the second was stain free!

We've just got a Sleepeezee Bordeaux 2000 pocket sprung. Love it.
We had memory foam before then, hated that one.

TonytheDog · 17/07/2020 11:57

LoafingLiz I'm tempted by the Sleepeeze Bordeaux - the reviews are very good. Is it firm, medium or soft?

TonytheDog · 17/07/2020 12:07

Ataddicted that's what mine looks like. Very disappointed.

cssurvivor · 17/07/2020 12:20

Hi I got a new mattress in Feb as my mattress was decades old, I am afraid it is quite a mine field and the best thing is to go to shops and try them out. I prefer a non memory foam one as they get hot, My pocket spring double possibly sleepeze cost 550 or thereabouts although some was for delivery. I am also allergic to wool and a lot of the more expensive ones use it. Having said that it is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on, I used to get back ache but no more. It is also relatively soft which was my choice. I also got it from a local specialist who only did beds so the advice I got there was better than the chains I visited . Its is worth going at sale time too good luck

LoafingLiz · 17/07/2020 12:52

I would say medium. It's really comfortable and supportive but not too firm. It supports my dodgy hip!
