Please recommend me a wonderful mattress

Single parent and I very much have the mentality that the children should get the best of the best, and I’ll be fine with a cheapo version.

Mattress being a case in point. And I’m fed up! So I’m going to splurge. Well, not Tempur mattress level of spend but prepared to go to £600

Simba? Emma? Or the more established silent night picket spring kind of mattress.

It needs to fit a small double (120 x 190) so reduces options but the above brands all do in this size.

I’d really appreciate some guidance!

Many thanks

I am 8 stone. I would say the Emma one is medium firm. It's very similar in firmness to our old mattress which was a generic medium firm one I think. It's certainly not too soft, but I don't find it too firm either.

There was a slight plasticy smell at first but we just took the covers off and opened the window during the day for the first few days and it faded.

Serafinaaa · 13/06/2020 09:18

I order an Emma yesterday. Went for the hybrid though as I'm light and find mattresses feel firmer to me. The hybrid is a bit softer. If you find your Emma too hard or soft they will send a free topper to adjust it.

Juliet2014 · 13/06/2020 09:33

@Serafinaaa

Doesn’t look like you can order the hybrid online? Where did you order from.

Thanks

@Serafinaaa
Really kind of you - thanks

Do you know difference between the two? Is it just firmness?

Also I know the original was a Which Best Buy, do you know how the hybrid fared?

It’s an incredible offer to planning to buy today before expires!

I’ve just bought an Eve Hybrid and I’ve not slept so well in years (my last one was a 4 yr old Silent night hybrid and it was agony)

Serafinaaa · 13/06/2020 10:58

Hybrid was also a which Best Buy. It's main difference is it's softer and has a layer of springs as well as the foam layers. It's slightly more expensive and slightly heavier in weight if you need to move it often. I don't know why they aren't promoting it on their website. The original is newer. The hybrid was the first mattress they made. If you're a keyworker you can get a 50% discount.

TonytheDog · 13/06/2020 11:20

Thank you so much for this thread. I was going to post the same but my budget was half yours. I didn't know about the key worker discount - although even the 40% is brilliant. I'm a single parent too and never prioritise myself, I'm finally decorating my bedroom and have saved enough for a new bed and mattress. I qualify for the key worker discount - I'm soo excited! I'll finally have a new, lovely mattress rather than some old lumpy affair that squeaks.
Would the Emma hybrid lovers recommend this over the original for lighter people - under 8st?

TonytheDog · 13/06/2020 11:24

Sorry just seen that Juliet2014 already asked about firmness/weight. In my excitement I didn't read properly. I've looked at soo many mattress reviews because I knew I couldn't afford an Emma/Simba and my head is hurting with open coil/pocket sprung and Reading 8000 reviews. I'm going to order the hybrid now!!

Juliet2014 · 13/06/2020 13:13

@Serafinaaa

Just had very odd response from Emma customer service to my question re differences between original and hybrid. And it basically concludes that original is superior!

I think I’ll go with the hybrid though simply because less firm for my weight

* I will give you a brief run down of the differences between the mattresses:*

The Emma Hybrid won the Which? Magazine 2017 mattress of the year award.

Therefore, after extensive research and development we created the new Emma Original mattress which has been designed with mores solid and quality sourced foam materials that helps combat pressure disparities (maintaining the structure of the mattress over time).

As the foam materials used for the Original are more solid than the Hybrid, conical springs have not been required to be used and this in turn makes the mattress lighter (which is beneficial for manoeuvrig the product).

Also, the Original is a firmer model than the Hybrid - therefore, offering better "zoning" which basically means it offers improved spinal alignment for the user.

I hope this information helps!

I saw that information too. It did cross my mind though that the hybrid probably costs considerably more to produce than an all foam variety so less of a profit margin 😉 I bet they are both great though and 200 night trial if you don't like it at all then nothing is lost.

mrnimmanimma · 13/06/2020 13:57

We have an Emma and it's great. The only thing is when it comes it stinks of flame retardant (all mattresses do now).

This is a proven carcinogen so leave it airing somewhere outside your house before you use it. We had to leave it 10 days. Also wash the cover too.

Juliet2014 · 14/06/2020 08:23

@Serafinaaa

So sorry to bother again
Did you get the 40% off? Keeps being removed every time i try to buy the hybrid!

OP posts:
oohnicevase · 14/06/2020 08:23

Simba 🤩🤩

TonytheDog · 14/06/2020 09:01

Juliet2014 that happened to me too but only on the hybrid. I emptied my basket and tried again and then it worked. Also, you probably know already but the lead time on the hybrid is much longer. I've decided to go for the Original because of delivery time and they will send a free topper to adjust the hardness/softness.

Serafinaaa · 14/06/2020 09:02

I got 50% off as I'm a key worker.
Maybe the 40 is only off the original? I'm sure that'll be great too.

Serafinaaa · 14/06/2020 09:03

My neighbour ordered a hybrid last week and it arrived the next day so I don't think lead time is any different?

Stegasaurusmum · 14/06/2020 09:07

Thank you for this thread, I am separating from my DH and the first thing I want yo buy is a new mattress... 😁

TonytheDog · 14/06/2020 09:20

That's interesting Serafinna, I had a 'live chat' with someone at Emma yesterday and I asked him to confirm the lead time - he said the Hybrid will take longer than the Original. I wonder if they're trying to push the Original over the Hybrid. I think I've decided to get the Original and take advantage of the mattress topper if necessary. Is it worth getting the mattress protector?

TheEmpressMatilda · 14/06/2020 09:45

Anyone have any experience with IKEA? I tested some IKEA mattresses in store last week and liked them, but they’ve gotten rid of all their customer support due to COVID so there’s no way to contact them if something goes wrong.

Juliet2014 · 14/06/2020 10:21

Just purchased the hybrid
Delivery 15-21 days, which suits me

OP posts:
Serafinaaa · 14/06/2020 10:24

You can also get the topper with the hybrid if needed.

I've asked online and they do seem to think it'll take 15-21 days. Not a problem for me though.

I'm buying mine due to a separation- can't wait!

Serafinaaa · 14/06/2020 10:26

Matilda- my current mattress is an Ikea and it's amazing. It was about £500 so probably one of their better ones. My ex loves it so much he's taking it though!

Theforest · 14/06/2020 10:34

So interested in EmmaHybrid. How it is with partners of different weights?

Theforest · 14/06/2020 15:42

Use MILLION41 for 41% off I know its only 1% more but still... Grin
