On Sunday I’m going to sit in silence for 4 hours

I have a 3 & 6 year old. I’m a SAHM. The schools shut here in Ireland March 12 so the girls have been home full time since then. My 6 year one doesn’t stop talking - ever.

On Sunday DH is taking the girls to visit his parents (allowed here) and I’m just going to sit in silence while they’re gone!

Have a bath in silence.

OchonAgusOchonO · 12/06/2020 12:38

Sounds lovely.

My dd19 was like that. I used to say you had to stop listening every so often or your head would explode. She's still very chatty but it's no longer incessant so there is hope for you Grin

FelicityPike · 12/06/2020 12:38

Oh I would so do that too!

formerbabe · 12/06/2020 12:39

So jealous

golddustwomen · 12/06/2020 12:42

Oh god I'm jealous
I also have a 6 and 3 year old.
Bloody enjoy it OP!! Smile

CMOTDibbler · 12/06/2020 12:45

I have a compulsory week off next week. My treat to myself is going to my storage unit and doing some cataloguing of my late dads art collection in total silence for a few hours

1forAll74 · 12/06/2020 12:54

I know two people who are totally deaf, and I am hard of hearing a bit, so we would like to hear some normal types of noise.

babasaclover · 12/06/2020 12:57

I have booked a days annual leave from work to just sit at home today, my daughter has gone back to school. I don't have the TV on all the radio nothing I'm just enjoying the peace

captainprincess · 12/06/2020 13:01

@1forAll74 🙄 goodness forbid anyone says anything on here these days!
Why bother saying that.
@Drinkandknowthings That sounds wonderful Grin

Pascha · 12/06/2020 13:02

I stay up an extra hour just to be in silence. I'm knackered but happy 😊.

Bluetrews25 · 12/06/2020 13:06

Oh I hope you have the BEST time! No doubt very well deserved.
Can it become a regular outing?! Grin

Spied · 12/06/2020 13:08

Wow!!

Bliss!!

Drinkandknowthings · 12/06/2020 13:11

My favourite bit of solitude used to be dog walks but they’ve mostly become family activities now as well (and the dog has an issue with his paw and is on reduced walking anyway).

She even talks in her sleep! If she’s watching telly there’s constant running commentary or constant questions!

The 3 year old is slightly quieter but not by much! She has volume control issues - there’s isn’t much difference between indoor and outdoor voice!

It used to be a monthly thing before the virus so hoping to get it back up and running!

🙄 As deaf person and not just "hard of hearing a bit" it didn't even occur to me to think that way!

I took it to mean that OP is just going to have 4 hours uninterrupted where she can sit and watch TV or read.

Plus, have you never heard of "deaf gains". Some people who are deaf love it - I never get a disturbed night from thunder or someone in the room snoring. Next door can be as loud as they please. When I have a headache or I've had enough of noise, it's bloody bliss taking my hearing aids out and enjoying the silence! Wink

raffle · 12/06/2020 13:24

I’m deaf in one ear and the other ear isn’t great...deaf gains...DH snores like a drain and I put my ‘good’ ear on the pillow and I can’t hear a damn thing!

Dicotyledon · 12/06/2020 14:08

Deaf gains- I can no longer hear the man upstairs going to the toilet.

OP, I hope you have a lovely time!

Jojo19834 · 12/06/2020 14:10

@1forAll74 just wow, what a way to take a light hearted comment! Can you honestly not see what she was getting at?

Flippetydip · 12/06/2020 14:11

Such a shame that you don't enjoy having your DC with you 24 hours a day, you must be a terrible parent.

Just kidding - thought I'd get in there before some idiot did. Enjoy it OP! I am extremely envious; I have a DS 11 who makes constant noise. Constant.

JustC · 12/06/2020 14:23

My 7yo is a constant talker as well. Or sounds if words words fail((he thiks it's beatboxing, it is not). It's like he really ferls every thought must be communicated. Every single one!
