On Sunday I’m going to sit in silence for 4 hours

I have a 3 & 6 year old. I’m a SAHM. The schools shut here in Ireland March 12 so the girls have been home full time since then. My 6 year one doesn’t stop talking - ever.

On Sunday DH is taking the girls to visit his parents (allowed here) and I’m just going to sit in silence while they’re gone!

I miss my bike rides when they were at school. I'd like to be on a desert island for a few hours right now. Don't care what the weather is like, I just want peace and quiet.

gumball37 · 12/06/2020 15:33

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I love it!!!

lachy · 12/06/2020 15:39

Have a lovely peaceful few hours. Am very slightly envious.

Very envious! DD didn't speak until she was 3.5, she has more than made up for it in the last 12 weeks. I am desperate for quiet.

Iloveacurry · 12/06/2020 15:54

Nice! Do it.

ListeningQuietly · 12/06/2020 15:57

When I was at school we used to do sponsored "hush in" days
they raised loads of money
and now as an adult I can see why the teachers loved them .....

Maybe get your kids to do a hush competition one morning ?

Drinkandknowthings · 12/06/2020 16:08

listeningquitely I timed DD6 one morning to see how long she could stay quite (she knew I was doing it). 2 minutes 47 seconds. (DD3 lasted 15!seconds!)

@1forAll74

I know two people who are totally deaf, and I am hard of hearing a bit, so we would like to hear some normal types of noise.
The OP is talking about a few hours. And when you've had constant noise, it can be overwhelming at times.

I, too, wear hearing aids as I'm partly deaf. I also like some peace at times, and in fact, will be going to my room shortly to read in quiet.

OP, enjoy your peace and quiet.

Fandoozle1 · 12/06/2020 16:10

Oh OP, ENJOY!! I had half an hour to myself last night and I just sat in absolute peace. It was amazing.

Scruffyoak · 12/06/2020 16:10

So so jealous. Mine are driving me mad.

troppibambini · 12/06/2020 16:15

Yep I hear you! 15, 9,6 and 5 here, if they're not talking they're either arguing, eating (don't get me started on the fucking eating) or just basically causing a trail of destruction.....

CaMePlaitPas · 12/06/2020 16:16

I wish my husband would do the same for me! Enjoy OP!

shadypines · 12/06/2020 16:19

Uneccessary comment from 1forAll74.
Your post made me smile and think about the time we bundled DD 2yrs into the car, riddled with chicken pox but otherwise ok, for a 5 hour drive to our booked holiday cottage. Chicken pox or not she literally did not pause for breath for the whole journey. I was knackered when we got there!

Enjoy the peace OP.

MayFayre · 12/06/2020 16:21

I can totally relate to this. Very jealous. Hope you enjoy every minute!

Menaimum · 12/06/2020 16:30

If anyone has already said I apologise for not having RTFT but
Make sure you turn off all your phones etc so you can absolute stick to it and enjoy every second!

IncrediblySadToo · 12/06/2020 16:44

Enjoy!!!

Don't waste it arguing on here!!

How long has it been allowed there?

Can he book Sunday dinner with them every week?

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 12/06/2020 16:56

I stay up far later than I should because the silence is so wonderful.

Ds 8 talks/shouts/sings from the moment he gets up until he's asleep. About 15 hours a day. Non-stop. No matter what he's doing.
He doesn't always require a reply thankfully. He just seems to need to narrate his life or he has a daily word limit he has to hit, so I stay up late and spend my days tired 🤷‍♀️.

Drinkandknowthings · 12/06/2020 17:25

It’s been allowed since Monday here. 6 people can meet indoors. There hasn’t been a case in our county in almost 3 weeks.

Drinkand
Could you do your kids a start chart and see how long they can stay quiet for twice a day - as a competition?

They are allowed to be doing a non electronic activity
such as a jigsaw or colouring or reading or playdoh
but they have to see how long they can stay quiet.

Its a good mental discipline and can help make a difference to the days

BikeRunSki · 12/06/2020 18:22

Me too! Otherwise 90%of my waking hours are narrated by DS’s (11) humming. If I stay up late, it’s only 75%.....

FedUpofLockdown123 · 12/06/2020 18:46

I'm a lone parent to an 8 and 3 year old and this is exactly what I done on Monday when my parents took them for a 3 hour walk. I didn't even switch the TV on I went to Mcdonalds drive through, came home and ate it in silence and had a napGrin.

They will be doing the same on Sunday probably and I will be sitting in silence again. I have a load of TV programmes I have to catch up on, one of the bedrooms needs gutted, a cupboard needing cleared out and I could really be doing with having a massive toy clear out but I don't want to waste my precious quiet time on any of this stuff Blush.

Drinkandknowthings · 12/06/2020 18:46

listeningquitely DD6 doesn’t do well with star charts - they just seem to add pressure to her and she ends up sobbing if she doesn’t get a star (have tried them in the past)
DD3 would probably try and eat the chart (she’s my wild child)

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 12/06/2020 18:48

I'm often up until 1am at the moment, just sitting, in blissful silence.

Drinkandknowthings · 12/06/2020 18:49

fedupoflockdown our McDonald’s opened recently as well - now you’ve given me an idea for Sunday!!
I desperately need to clean/cull the kids room but like that I just can’t face it the first time I have time to myself!
