Morning. Despair again here. Riding that emotional rollercoaster. I feel so powerless and scared.

Ibake · 12/06/2020 08:05

Morning everyone. Grey day here in Cheshire. I woke up to a horrific statistic but am trying to see a silver lining (one of my annoying traits). Way back at the start when I nervously started trying to find people of my way of thinking I had seen that a 6.4% fall in GDP meant that the economic effects of lockdown would be worse healthwise than covid itself. I've woken to the sky headline that GDP fell by 20.4% in April. Where is the silver lining you might reasonably ask? Rishi of course! Surely this gives him major ammunition to push for 1m and get things moving again. Might even try to submit a question to the 5pm crew...

Bollss · 12/06/2020 08:09

@Cattermole I think my cat would get on with your cat. He loves toast / bread. He goes out "hunting" and brings us back stale bread from next doors bird table Grin

Cattermole · 12/06/2020 08:15

You're probably right there GeneGenie
He's a sociable big lummox - he'd love a gang of cat bro's.

Allflightscancelled · 12/06/2020 08:19

Ibake do it! I'm not brave enough but I'd love it if we could put a bit of pressure on

Spudlet · 12/06/2020 08:20

Just emailed DSs speech therapist and asked her to come back and reassess DS. In person if she can. Thank goodness for being able to bridge some of the gaps this is leaving for him.

Bollss · 12/06/2020 08:20

Aw! We've got two. They're brothers. They swing from being adorable and loving towards each other to beating the shite out of each other in seconds!

I think they'll be sad when I go back to work they've enjoyed the attention 😂

Ibake · 12/06/2020 08:21

Sorry to interrupt the cats and toast crumbs (a frankly much nicer way to start the day!) but have just checked my source. Unfortunately behind the Times paywall but articles on 24/3/20 by Philip Thomas at Bristol University is where I read it. If you google, it caused a bit of a twitter flurry at the time with him being branded heartless. Anyway, I decided to submit my question for the 5pm briefing so have actually achieved something today before I'm even out of bed!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 12/06/2020 08:22

@Ibake - I thought the same thing. Shrinking your economy by a fifth in a month, that can’t be good surely? Followed by well that’ll mean easing has to accelerate (then selfishly, and that means less money to bail out wales so maybe I’ll be allowed to share in the fun of travelling 5 miles from your door for any reason you like! And maybe even a beer poured by someone else. Be still my heart!

Trying to get up in a positive frame of mind today. We are off to walk a lovely dog we know who doesn't get walked by his owner any more. He is lovely. My daughter wants to adopt him and his owner would probably let us have him but for many reasons we can't have a dog just now. So we are doing what we can for him, and he's certainly a great mood lifter for us.

Cattermole · 12/06/2020 08:25

@Ibake I'm always confused by the "callous" and "heartless" tag - I mean, that's the job of scientists, isn't it? To be dispassionate?
Rather than "Nah, let's keep malaria, mosquitoes are cute"?

Grin

Our cat, a fearsome majestic hunter, caught a fly last week!

It only took him 3 years. What a brave boy.

(Well once he was left alone in a room with a wasp and the wasp was never seen again, so perhaps he is even more intrepid that generally agreed.)

I love cats.

I think they are the only thing that had brought me any real joy over the last few months.

Sometimes I sneak on to FB just to see how some cats are doing but instead of cat pictures there are just rants demonstrating how right on some tedious humans are.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 12/06/2020 08:33

I've got a dog who is objectively the cutest dog in the world. It's been scientifically proven. I'm worried sharing a photo here ouldl be too outing but it's probably for the best as the rest of the thread would just be awwww.

Good morning. Cattermole that sounds like a good plan of action for your mum to rebuild her mobility. It’s a scandal she should ever have got into that state in the first place though.

DH is doing a five hour round trip to see his 85 year old step mother today. We’re all really worried about her but it’s so difficult because she lives so far away. Her and DH’s father came back to the UK after living abroad for the last thirty years a couple of years ago. For reasons none of us every understood they decided to settle in Norfolk, not that there’s anything wrong with Norfolk but DH’s siblings both live in London and us and stepmother’s son live in Kent (although he’s as much use as a chocolate tea pot). DH’s father died in November so now stepmother is all alone miles from everyone. She’s in sheltered accommodation which at least means there’s a bit of help, but the situation was far from ideal before covid. We’re trying to get her moved to another property nearer us but again all that is out the window right now.

AnxiousElephant77 · 12/06/2020 08:36

@Allflights - I'm going to try today as well. I went to bed in a bit of a strop after dp's comments about my hysteria. I'm going to see if I can be a bit more positive today and not let it all get the better of me.

BarkandCheese · 12/06/2020 08:37

I’m sorry Wales, I own the cutest dog in the world. .

AnxiousElephant77 · 12/06/2020 08:38

@iBake - I believe in Rishi 😂

Mascotte · 12/06/2020 08:40

Morning, all.

I'd really like my nails doing.. might try to source a speakeasy nail bar.

I bought really fancy polish but it still chips off after a day or two.

And nice to hear about the cute pets 😊

Allflightscancelled · 12/06/2020 08:41

I used to own the cutest dog in the world but now he has passed on, I'm willing to accept that he's passed the baton on to one of you

Cattermole · 12/06/2020 08:42

Come on now, we can't have these unsubstantiated claims of cuteness and no photos. It's grey and raining. We need cuteness.

The only thing I noticed the other day with Rishi, @AnxiousElephant77 - he's got dreadful posture! Proper put me off that did, his rounded shoulders - he'll get a bad back in later life!

Nihiloxica · 12/06/2020 08:43

But can he take down an entire fly, though?

Doubt it. Wink

Bollss · 12/06/2020 08:43

@Nihiloxica very brave boy!

Can't remember whether I mentioned it but our other cat caught a bee which then stung him and nearly killed him! He has not learnt Hmm he is now mostly watched over whilst he's outside the dimwit.

Allflightscancelled · 12/06/2020 08:43

Thinking about it, my dog was too big to be cute. But he was the most all round gorgeous. Big old rescue lurched. V badly treated before we got him, but the gentlest dog you could ever meet. Wet himself when a cat gave him a hard state 😂

BarkandCheese · 12/06/2020 08:44

Well, I didn’t want to derail with the awesome cuteness, but as you asked...
