Where do you hide your internet router?

I am desperately looking for inspiration! My Wi-fi router + booster box are currently housed in a charity shop find - a old wooden radio cupboard thing which does the job of hiding all the plastic gubbins/has a very useful cable feed but which I have grown to hate (too deep for room/looks really out of place).

I'd ideally like to replace it with something a lot shallower in the industrial wood/metal style, but still with some sort of way to hide all the kit/hopefully feeding cables out the back somewhere. As I am seemed to have hit a dead end, I wondered how everyone else hides their internet hardware? There must be an aesthetic way of doing this (apart from hiding stuff in tv stand which is in another room)! Please give me some ideas before I go mad...

It reminds me of my Nan who had a wooden TV cupboard and you had to open the doors to watch it.

Or those video cassette covers you used to be able to get so your shelf of films looked like leather bound classic novels.

Brakebackcyclebot · 06/06/2020 23:01

Behind the door.

I thought you were going to say you hid it from your DCs, and you wanted new ideas 😂

goingtotown · 06/06/2020 23:15

In a cupboard in the hall.

bonsaidragon · 06/06/2020 23:19

On the hall table next to the landline phone.

Pelleas · 06/06/2020 23:24

On the shoe cupboard in the hallway. Router at one end, landline phone at the other and a decorative lamp in the middle.

My immediate thought was those toilet roll covers in the shape of a doll where the toilet roll hides under the dress. That would probably work well for the routers everyone is worried about.

I really am very confused. I've put a tea cosy over my kitchen radio, do I need to hide the toaster too?

BackforGood · 06/06/2020 23:34

Anoher who is confused as to why anyone wants to hide their router Confused
Can anyone explain to us please ?

Mine sits on the desk next to the computer.

I wondered how everyone else hides their....hardware?
Ours is out and proud
Ours isn’t very big and it’s black.
Mine is happy to be seen
In my understair cupboard
Mine is white.....it doesn't look too bad. I still hide it

Oh, I get it now. 'Hiding the router' eh; nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Animum2 · 06/06/2020 23:39

Ours is next to the computer

megletthesecond · 06/06/2020 23:40

Er, it's on the floor next to the wall box the telephone gubbins comes out of. It doesn't need hiding.

chromis · 07/06/2020 07:37

In a small F&M hamper on the sideboard.

Hide it as ugly white with lights that flash all the time.

Ooopsijustsnarted · 07/06/2020 07:43

Ours lives on top the the fridge freezer because it looked a mess on the phone table (I'm not posh, it's a tiny coffee table in the kitchen) my house is weird and the phone line comes into the kitchen.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/06/2020 08:34

We have a shelved alcove in the corner, which carries the Sky box, DVD player and NAS box. The router's on the top open shelf. We have to have a repeater though, as it's right at the edge of the house.

AnnaSW1 · 07/06/2020 08:51

I hide it because I have toddlers who press every button on everything they see!

Mypathtriedtokillme · 07/06/2020 09:00

On top of the hallway linen cupboard with the cables chased through the walls.

stopwining · 07/06/2020 09:11

I hide it behind the TV, it's hidden because they are ugly things, if it isn't a decorational item, why would it be out?

DappledThings · 07/06/2020 09:13

Do you hide everything that isn't only decorative? Kettle? Toaster? Light switches? TVs and radios? The fridge?

EatsShootsAndRuns · 07/06/2020 09:19

It's not meant to be hidden away! Crikey do you hide your toilet roll in case someone thinks that you wipe your arse?

sobersides · 07/06/2020 09:34

Mine's behind the TV. I remember working with a very 'arty' colleague who had a very minimalist home. They had an argument with the Virgin engineer when they insisted the router go under the floorboards as it would ruin the decor.

mrsbyers · 07/06/2020 09:35

We have a cabinet in the office , house was networked by previous owners

PositiveLife · 07/06/2020 09:40

Mine's just sat next to the TV stand. The cat likes to sit on it Grin

Topseyt · 07/06/2020 09:44

Why hide it? Do you want people to think you don't have internet access?

Ours is on a lower shelf of our living room TV stand. There is a plug in booster upstairs for the couple of areas of the house where signal remained an issue.

ForrestFlame · 07/06/2020 09:51

Mine is on a shelf in the hall. I think it looks nice sitting on the shelf.

InMySpareTime · 07/06/2020 09:52

Ours is on a shelf we built in the turn at the top of the stairs (where the top of the stairs goes 180 degrees to the upstairs landing IYSWIM). It was dead space of about the right size.

stopwining · 07/06/2020 09:56

As much as I can yes! I don't have a toaster (use the grill) but when I did I kept it in a cupboard, kettle is a stove top one so imo is nice to look at. Same with radios don't have one anymore (Alexa) but when we did it was pretty.

I hate the TV, I've always wanted a white one for this very reason!
