Where do you hide your internet router?

I am desperately looking for inspiration! My Wi-fi router + booster box are currently housed in a charity shop find - a old wooden radio cupboard thing which does the job of hiding all the plastic gubbins/has a very useful cable feed but which I have grown to hate (too deep for room/looks really out of place).

I'd ideally like to replace it with something a lot shallower in the industrial wood/metal style, but still with some sort of way to hide all the kit/hopefully feeding cables out the back somewhere. As I am seemed to have hit a dead end, I wondered how everyone else hides their internet hardware? There must be an aesthetic way of doing this (apart from hiding stuff in tv stand which is in another room)! Please give me some ideas before I go mad...

Ours is behind the curtain on a windowsill!

StarUtopia · 06/06/2020 14:27

In a shoe cabinet in the hallway. (like an old cupboard, painted nicely!)

TreacherousPissFlap · 06/06/2020 14:29

Ours is on the dresser behind the lamp. We drilled a small hole in the back to feed the power cable through and used cable clips in the appropriate colours to run the cable to the phone point (annoyingly nowhere near the power point Hmm)

Oooh thanks! Next thought of a shoe cabinet - am now in the throes of the wonder that is Etsy. I think we may be on to something..

I wouldn't put it inside something metal, it might interfere with the signal?

AnnaSW1 · 06/06/2020 14:41

Behind the sofa against the wall in the corner

TheSmallAssassin · 06/06/2020 14:43

I don't hide it away as I worry that it will affect the range.

JemilyJ · 06/06/2020 14:43

Mine is on the shelf in the hall where I keep keys, post and the like. It’s fully on display and I’m now wondering how I could hide it.

runningon · 06/06/2020 14:44

Underneath a small hall cabinet

Bagelsandbrie · 06/06/2020 14:44

Ours is just on the floor behind the TV!

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2020 14:46

Ours is out and proud on the hall table. I thought putting it in a cupboard might mean the signal wouldn’t be as good.

Thighmageddon · 06/06/2020 14:48

People hide their routers and hubs?

Mines just sat on the lamp table next to... the lamp.

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2020 14:49

Ours isn’t very big and it’s black. It’s not really that noticeable.

GlamGiraffe · 06/06/2020 14:49

Mine is happy to be seen😁

Boopear · 06/06/2020 14:51

It does seem to have been fairly happy in the wooden cupboard for the last * years..my son avidly streams computer games 2 floors up Hmm and it is a fairly hefty Victorian house, so it seems to do the job. Can't vouch for all routers though Smile

Ours is on our tv stand. Didn't realise people hid them? Now thinking where I could hide mine

louise5754 · 06/06/2020 14:52

On top of the sky box. Why would you hide it?

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2020 14:52

Even with ours on a table in the hall I can’t get signal on my phone from it down the garden. ☹️

Thighmageddon · 06/06/2020 14:54

@Sparklingbrook

Neither can we, you can sit on the top patio and use your phone or iPad but not on the other one, that's a tech free zone.
Sadik · 06/06/2020 14:55

I thought you were trying to get your dc to do their chores, and was going to suggest changing the password! But you've reminded me that pre-lockdown I was planning to treat us to some nice new hallway furniture - maybe I should give up on waiting & search online then I too will have somewhere nice to put my router :)

homemadecommunistrussia · 06/06/2020 14:55

I love the idea of having in an old radio. Ours is just on the side in the kitchen gathering dust.

TerrapinStation · 06/06/2020 14:56

I've never heard of hiding the router, surely that's not a thing. Why does it need to be hidden?

Ernieshere · 06/06/2020 14:56

Mine is white, from Plusnet, it doesn't look too bad.
I still hide it behind the t.v.

Boopear · 06/06/2020 14:56

Mine doesn't do garden either. It's very odd. Maybe the birds fly in front of the signal Grin
