Rain please

Is anybody else praying for rain - the land is parched and arid, desperately in need of a few days of good, steady rain to reduce the soil moisture deficit. The fields are brown, little grass growing for grazing animals, the wheat, barley and other cereal crops need a good soaking to bring them on and plump the grain and trees are starting to show signs of drought stress.

Here, in the South West, my raingauge has recorded less than half an inch of rain since the beginning of March!

When it does come, the land will breathe a huge sigh of relief, soak it up, belch and, like Oliver Twist, ask for more. I cannot wait for it and that gorgeous petrichor smell that will accompany it!

Anyone care to join me in a rain dance

It is absolutely pouring down here and the temperature has really dropped. In fact, the dog and I are back in bed with the laptop, finishing up some work and listening to the rain Smile

FlamingoAndJohn · 04/06/2020 20:13

Still no rain here even though it was overcast and cold all day.

mineofuselessinformation · 04/06/2020 23:07

Finally raining here in a meaningful way after spits and spots over the last two days. Just as well as I put a treatment on my grass.....

steppemum · 05/06/2020 13:12

forecast is for dry....

Sad

We've had more rain today - and hail at one point!

managedmis · 05/06/2020 18:43

Is this in the UK?

Bloodybridget · 05/06/2020 18:47

We had a tiny bit of rain yesterday, and a few showers today. Hardly dampened the garden.

TheHighestSardine · 05/06/2020 18:53

Two heavy hail showers today (Lancs), in between the rain and bright hot sunshine. Two inches of rain yesterday and today.

Good old global warming, stirring more energy into the system and making it more variable. It's a worry.

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/06/2020 19:00

Still hardly any here, lawn parched Sad

derxa · 05/06/2020 19:32

I withdrew my last post it was a bit Hmm Too much wine. Anyway we've had some downpours here in Borders Scotland. Thank God

AdoptedBumpkin · 05/06/2020 19:35

I've not really enjoyed today's rain, but rain across the country would be useful this weekend to stop people going to beaches etc.

Bluebellbike · 05/06/2020 19:57

It's rained and hailstoned here over the last three days. South Manchester

userxx · 06/06/2020 06:52

@Bluebellbike Stay in bed, it's much the same now 😞

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/06/2020 09:22

S Cumbria again - it absolutely chucked it down all day yesterday and overnight. It is now fairly sunny but it's blowing a gale! It's really chilly as well. Our heating actually came on.

Bluebellbike · 06/06/2020 09:25

@users not much choice now.Admitted to hospital. Can't see what weather is as can't see out of a window

Baaaahhhhh · 06/06/2020 09:28

Not a drop here in Surrey. Still hoping for showers later.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/06/2020 09:43

Surrey area here too. Sunny and windy this morning but clouding over now, hopefully we'll get some later.

userxx · 06/06/2020 16:05

@Bluebellbike Bloody hell, hope you're ok.

Bluebellbike · 06/06/2020 16:52

Seems I've had a small stroke. Won't be going anywhere for a while. Friend ays it's purung down outside though. Rubbish bit is no visitor due to Coronavirus 😕

FuzzyPuffling · 06/06/2020 21:17

Bluebellbike, I'm so sorry to hear that and hope you're ok. Sounds very rubbish indeed and I hope you're home soon. The weather here has been blowy and rainy all day. You've not missed much.

TheHighestSardine · 06/06/2020 21:31

Shit. Good luck on a full recovery @bluebellbike! Do all the physio!

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/06/2020 21:37

I'm sorry Blue, I didn't see your post about being unwell when I posted earlier. Hope you have a comfortable night and are better soon.

Properly raining here at last. I sent DS to water my allotment at 7, knew that would do the trick.

Sending very good wishes to @Bluebellbike. Hope you're getting the best possible care.
Huge thunderstorm late afternoon yesterday, at least the water butts will be full.
