Rain please

Is anybody else praying for rain - the land is parched and arid, desperately in need of a few days of good, steady rain to reduce the soil moisture deficit. The fields are brown, little grass growing for grazing animals, the wheat, barley and other cereal crops need a good soaking to bring them on and plump the grain and trees are starting to show signs of drought stress.

Here, in the South West, my raingauge has recorded less than half an inch of rain since the beginning of March!

When it does come, the land will breathe a huge sigh of relief, soak it up, belch and, like Oliver Twist, ask for more. I cannot wait for it and that gorgeous petrichor smell that will accompany it!

Anyone care to join me in a rain dance

We have had rain today and my not terribly accurate phone app says there is rain due for the next week.

I hope so. ☔️

steppemum · 02/06/2020 22:28

2-4 days of steady rain, not too much wind please!

I've been watering plants that I have never watered in 10 years here!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/06/2020 22:29

No, I don’t want rain. I’m loving the sunshine, it’s the only good thing at the moment.

redeyetonowheregood · 02/06/2020 22:31

Desperate for rain here...the fields are looking thirsty and our garden is brown. I am in East Anglia and in my patch it doesn't look as though we will get much for definite... hopefully we will though.

Impatientwino · 02/06/2020 22:35

I'd like it to rain for the next few days but stop in tine for Saturday pretty please.

Finally have some beloved friends coming over to sit and chat in the garden and instead of warm and sunny it's due to be 13! We can't even huddle for warmth Grin

Never mind, we can sit under blankets! But please no rain!

FlamingoAndJohn · 02/06/2020 22:39

Please. It’s dusty and tinderbox dry here.

wishuponarainbow · 02/06/2020 22:41

Lots of rain here! It was a beautiful morning but then rain started about 2pm and not let up since. Forecast for rest of week and weekend!
Can't complain though-in Scotland and had a beautiful couple of days last week. So warm we even managed to get the paddling pool out!!

Beekeeper1 · 02/06/2020 22:42

Oh wow, I am not alone! Didn't expect so many fellow rain wishersSmile. Yes, hopefully the temperatures will ease downwards too - working outside, in a physical job, the extremely high temperatures are very uncomfortable and energy sapping

Please rain! I’m praying too.

NeedToKnow101 · 02/06/2020 22:47

I'm in bed but wiggling a rain dance with you. Love the sun but we need the rain.

ListeningQuietly · 02/06/2020 22:48

every gardener is praying for rain

userxx · 02/06/2020 22:48

@ClassicCola Yep, just a day then back to full on sunshine please.

madcatladyforever · 02/06/2020 22:50

I didn't know it was called petrichor P, you learn something new everyday. I am sick of going out with the watering can everyday and my roses don't really like tap water. They are desperate for rain too.

EffYouSeeKaye · 02/06/2020 22:51

As much as I love the sunshine, we really need some rain here too. The grass is thirsty. I wish it would rain a little bit every day somewhere between 1 and 3am. That would be perfect!

Weloveoptimus · 02/06/2020 23:10

It's raining quite heavy here! Just saw this post and had been outside to check the car.

Weloveoptimus · 02/06/2020 23:11

Forgot to say I'm near Leeds.

BackforGood · 02/06/2020 23:15

Rain at night would be okay, but the gorgeous weather has saved many of us over these weeks of being confined to home. Will be very difficult for a lot of families, in particular if we get a prolonged spell of rain.

Will probably start tipping it down as soon as people are allowed to spend time on beaches / go on holiday.

amy85 · 02/06/2020 23:23

Yes I am desperate for rain....my front lawn looks like straw and is desperate for some water

thenamesarealltaken · 02/06/2020 23:28

You'll have your wish very soon. Well some areas

mineofuselessinformation · 02/06/2020 23:34

I have had some glorious sunshine here - but I'm currently watering 34 plants in my garden (soon to be joined by more) that have either been split, moved or freshly planted.
My grass is crying out for it, so yes, a lovely refreshing downpour would be welcome here too. Smile

catfeets · 02/06/2020 23:51

It's finally raining here! Started half an hour ago but the temp hasn't dropped :(
We have a large number of fires in our area that have been burning for weeks and the rain is much needed.

ladybird69 · 03/06/2020 00:24

I think I’ve lost my Japanese acer tree. It’s 15 years old. One min it was fine the next the leaves are all shrivelled up 🙁 I’ve never watered it until July/August time usually, never may/June time.
Any gardeners around is it worth feeding and soaking it ever day trying to get it back to life.

H1978 · 03/06/2020 00:25

Raining in West Yorkshire 👍🏼

ALongHardWinter · 03/06/2020 01:03

Oh please! All the grass around here looks awful, all parched and yellow. Good thing it recovers so well once it's had some rain. And the pavements are all dusty and dirty. A few days of solid rain should do the trick.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 03/06/2020 01:11

We have puddles.

Get in! Smile
