We've stayed several times in a holiday cottage on a Greek island. The cottage is in the garden of a lovely Greek family's home, which is full of olive trees. Every year the mum and her friends get together and, using olive oil from the trees, make soap. Each time we've come home laden with bars and bars of it - gifts from her. It's unscented and comes in big roughly cut blocks, but it is the best soap I've ever used. Sadly we havent been back for a few years and our stocks have now run out. It's so gentle and moisturising, using it takes me straight back to Greece.

MrBenn my MIL uses olive oil soap too. Her hands are usually lovely.

MrBennsshop · 24/05/2020 12:23

Mmm, it is lovely stuff. An excuse to go back for more once the current crisis resolves I guess Smile

My sister lives in Provence, where you can buy lemon or orange shaped and scented soap in every village and tourist shop. I used to love it, until I had hyperemisis. The smell still makes me queasy 8 years later!!

The Loccitane soaps are lovely small and large bars. They last for ages and don't dry the skin. Used in the shower with a shower puff they make masses of creamy moisture

@charlielimacharlie

I agree that hand wash is Devine !!! I don't think they sell it anymore though 😢

AgeLikeWine · 26/05/2020 17:43

The same bog-standard stuff from Waitrose that I currently buy.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/05/2020 17:47

Any decent rose or lavender bar soap does me. Currently got a random bar on the go from TK Maxx. Think it was a £2 red sticker job.

If someone knows of a quality jasmine soap, I’m more than happy to be swayed. :)

Almost anything from Scottish Fine Soaps. But i am lucky as live near where they are based and buy in bulk from their facyory shop. My favourites are cinnamon and their Au lait range. But the thistle and black pepper is also nice

Doodlebug5 · 26/05/2020 18:37

Rituals dao but they have discontinued it

Lostonadustyrock · 26/05/2020 18:48

Aesop. Gutted about the palm oil though. I also rate the soaps from Yorkshire Soap Co.

speakout · 26/05/2020 18:50

Simple bar soap.

VenetoResident · 26/05/2020 19:06

@Sgtmajormummy - I will look out for Nesti Dante next time I'm shopping! There's an OVS in our local shopping mall.

Echobelly · 26/05/2020 19:09

Probably something from Aesop - smells so lovely, but soooo expensive!

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/05/2020 22:48

I’m a bar soap fan, and my fave are the All Natural Soap Co. ones from Know and Love (little independent shop and online) they’re lovely, no palm oil, just in cardboard, great for my sensitive skin, and smell fab!

Sgtmajormummy · 26/05/2020 22:52

@VenetoResident Yes, right next to the tills the last time I was in there.

charlielimacharlie · 27/05/2020 14:37

@Pootle40

Oh no! I didn't realise that Confused how annoying!

sleepwhenidie · 27/05/2020 14:38

Aesop every time

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 27/05/2020 14:42

I love the smell of Pears so rarely buy any other (Simple for washing my face but that has no smell).

Have to second Tigermuffin soaps though. I was scrabbling around for random bars at home when the supermarket shelves were stripped of bars and found some I’d bought at a local Farmers’ Market, probably as a gift for someone. I wasn’t hopeful, as my skin can be really sensitive, but wow what an amazing find it was! Lasted absolutely ages, loads of foam, not drying at all. I will be getting more!

luckylavender · 27/05/2020 14:42

Any savon de marseille. Currently using Bronnley lime & bergamot which is lovely. Don't find the L'Occitane bar soaps as good as they used to be. Bar soap much better for my skin.

Purpletigers · 27/05/2020 17:22

Whatever is in the supermarket? I do have some lovely Orange and something soap from Emma Bridgwater in the downstairs loo but it’s just soap . I have no idea what’s in the other bathrooms . Imperial leather ?

speakout · 27/05/2020 18:32

Do people really get so wound up about hand soap?

I use a bar of soap. Wash, rinse, dry. I don't like all the synthetic perfume- made from petrochemicals -.

WaterBubble5 · 27/05/2020 19:33

Bramley lavender and geranium

Les Petites Marseillaise lavender

WaterBubble5 · 27/05/2020 19:38

Love Cyrill’s Soap Shed bar soap

cyclingmad · 27/05/2020 21:03

Atelier - stayed in Kimpton Everly Hotel in LA which has this brand for shampoo, conditoner and body wash. They do soap bars.
It smells gorgeous. I buy it all!
