@Pinkflipflop85 I'm in the same situation as you. It's not that I'm particularly desperate to see my parents but I know my mum is struggling and it would make a big difference for her to have someone to talk to that's not my dad. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm a couple of hours away I would have gone round and done the end of the driveway thing already. If we don't hear any new rules about non-essential travel today then I'm just going to jump in my car and do it anyway.

TeacupDrama · 10/05/2020 17:28

stay alert means paying attention,

attention to symptoms, soical distancing etc use your head engage brain but no dementor believes we have brains to think for ourselves
would like to be treated as a thinking adult with a rational thought process.

PickAChew · 10/05/2020 17:29

All stay alert suggests to me is that curtain twitchers will feel vindicated by the instruction.

thatgingergirl · 10/05/2020 17:34

Can I join in please? The negativity on other threads is really getting to me - it is utterly depressing and enraging at the same time.

I am really unaffected by lockdown personally, but am so sorry, and worried, for those dealing with difficulties, be they healthwise, financially, practically or emotionally.

My patronus is a puffin - they're not fierce at all, but they're determined little birds. I spent one of the best days of my life on Skomer a few years ago and I want to go again!

I totally agree. The dementors will hear "stay alert" and think this means "watch out the window for errant BBQs". "Stay alert" sounds a bit too close to "alert the authorities" for me.

Mikki2019 · 10/05/2020 17:47

Oh good god , some of these threads ! People have no sense of nuance ! Am staying here !!!

RunningNinja79 · 10/05/2020 17:47

I'm getting quite excited for 7pm. Not that I want to get my hopes up

Snap. Some of you might get this, but a lot wont. For me it feels the same as when the ballot for the London marathon is announced. The chance of getting in a next to none yet you can't help have that little bit of hope. Then the rejection email comes and while you're not surprised you can't help be disappointed. I think tonight's statement will be like that.

TheGreatWave · 10/05/2020 17:50

I so wanted to go and see the puffins at Bempton this year (East Yorkshire coast) Next year maybe.

Wherearemyminions · 10/05/2020 17:52

Trying not to look at Facebook too much at the moment, just winds me up too much. I slipped up earlier and had a mooch on one of the local town groups and came across this absolute doozy We have to stay at home as much as possible until the virus dies. It's better than lying in a morgue.

Right-ho, when the virus dies you say? Pretty sure that's not how it works but you do you.

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 17:54

And bonfires with associated shouting

iamapixie · 10/05/2020 17:54

RunningNinja
Ah but is the risk of DYING of Covid smaller or larger than the chance of getting into London?! Whatever the answer I'm sure we should ban something. Forever.

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 17:54

My hope has been snatched already by Ms Sturgeon.

TinRoofRusty · 10/05/2020 17:55

Am cooking non-essential food. It's nice here, but cold, so we're BBQing burgers and chicken and haven't put a note through the neighbours' doors - they don't give a shit and we don't when they have them, either.

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 17:56

If the neighbours put a note through my door they'd need to do it 72 hours before the planned bbq so that I could pick it up and read it

justasking111 · 10/05/2020 17:58

facebook this afternoon. A mother stated "We (partner and 2 DCs) are all staying home until they find a vaccine, health is more important than money"

iamapixie · 10/05/2020 17:59

Puffins!? How can you even think of puffins. Just talking about them will make people want to go and see them and then we'll have even more of a spike than that caused by VE day. Well I hope you're all proud of yourselves with your puffin conversations. Or something.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/05/2020 18:00

@justasking111 I bet that they're able to work from home on full pay.

RunningNinja79 · 10/05/2020 18:01

@iamapixie Had to google. More chance of getting into London.
I meant that there is always hope you will get in, but then the crushing disappointment comes with the rejection email. Tonight there will be crushing disappointment when Boris doesn't come up with anything exciting. Unless you own a garden centre I suppose.

justasking111 · 10/05/2020 18:01

You just know that some folk are going to ignore Sturgeon and Drakeford now, which will cause so much outrage. We just have to enjoy the unintended humour in their posts. Grin

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/05/2020 18:02

This on the V.E thread...hopefully it posts.

iamapixie · 10/05/2020 18:03

Oh dear we're back to the 'I work in an ICU..... stay at home'. Are they just cutting and pasting their first demented posts?

Mascotte · 10/05/2020 18:04

My favourite of the day has been the outrageous flouting with a party at which there was even... a pony

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/05/2020 18:05

didn't post for some reason but it's a spoof NHS poster.

Tappering · 10/05/2020 18:07

@justasking111 and did they have any bright ideas for how they are going to fund themselves stopping at home?

I do think the next few weeks is likely to look like this:

  • jump on any increase in infections; hold this up as evidence of selfishness.
  • quietly ignore and don't mention if the NHS isn't overwhelmed by cases.
  • increase in posts bemoaning lack of support from school for distance learning because they have chosen to stay at home, despite not being in the shielded cohort.
  • increase in posts complaining that their kids are being left out/isolated/lonely because others have all gone back to school and are doing playdates and parties without them.
  • increase in posts expressing amazement that their employer has terminated them for refusing to come back to work, despite them not being in the group required to shield.

@Waxonwaxoff0
Wfh is no picnic when you're also trying to home ed a chatty 9 year old.....
But I agree, it's the people who will be least affected by this who would be ok with it carrying on endlessly.
Well, nothing stopping them quitting their job and pulling their kids out to homeschool them. Just don't expect me to continue to put my childs education, his future on hold to pay for it. Or for the govt to continue to bankroll it.
