Ravioli on Toast.

It’s wrong isn’t it? My DH thinks it’s a Good Thing. The tinned stuff in sauce. Not the lovely Buitoni type with the mince in the sauce ( which should be enjoyed in a bowl with a shake of Tabasco) but the Heinz stuff. I like it on its own. He insists on toast. Grim ?

I liked the veggie one with a jacket spud.

Starlight2004 · 29/04/2020 08:00

I've not though of this for ages but yes it's a thing! As well as the tinned mac and cheese both given to the kids often on toast when they were little. I think they would still eat it now as young adults! And probably so would I!

Mustbethewine · 29/04/2020 08:06

I've never eaten ravioli without toast.

Even as a child I was confused by the carb on carb thing in this instance but it's deliciousness exonerates it.
I found a tin of spaghetti hoops at the back of the cupboard in the early days of lockdown when we were just eating whatever we had in. That was a good day! On toast with extra mature cheddar between the toast and the hoops.
I hadn't eaten it for years. This tin was 3yrs out of date and I imagine they have a long shelf life so who knows how long it had been there. I suspect I may have bought a couple of tins when DD was a toddler in case she liked it, tried her on one, she didn't like it so this other one has languished in the cupboard ever since.

Foreigners quiver with fear at this kind of sensitive information. It confirms everything they've ever suspected about 'British' 'food' !!! 😂

But I think TrashPanda's reverse-Foodie might be in the lead at the mo ... tinned potatoes?!! Where on earth did he get those??

JonHammIsMyJamm · 29/04/2020 08:35

They sell tinned potatoes in every supermarket in the uk, in the tinned veg aisle.

Haworthia · 29/04/2020 09:04

Tinned potatoes are lovely. I remember eating them as a child and now I buy them for potato curries.

greathat · 29/04/2020 09:55

My kids like ravioli on toast :)

MuseumOfYou · 29/04/2020 09:58

My DM used to serve lasagne with tinned spaghetti as a side. The double pasta issue was lost on her.

I absolutely get comfort food but my exDH had an unhealthy obsession with it. Deeply unattractive. Particularly sandwich spread which looked like jarred vomit.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2020 10:00

Tinned potatoes are lovely roasted im sure that was a Delia tip. Dh used to take them when we went caravaning im not keen on them plain though.

MuseumOfYou · 29/04/2020 10:00

Totally agree that Heinz spaghetti on toast with cheddar melted on the top is magnificent.

Yesterdayforgotten · 29/04/2020 13:08

Thanks for that tip @Mrsjayy I'll have to try toasted tinned pots, are they nicer than regular?

Yesterdayforgotten · 29/04/2020 13:09

roasted* not toasted

DartmoorChef · 29/04/2020 20:20

I miss heinz toast toppers. I really really miss them and have never been able to create anything remotely like it.

The trick with tinned potatoes is to drain, rinse, gently warm them in fresh salted water. They are great for adding to a curry or sautéed with a fried breafast.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/04/2020 20:33

Comfort food! Debate in this house is do you butter the toast or not??

Mac cheese on toast for me tonight thanks OP!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/04/2020 20:35

Oh gods, Toast Toppers... I was rhapsodising to DH about these last night. If I have to isolate again I’m spending the whole time trying to recreate them 😋

Yesterdayforgotten · 29/04/2020 20:54

Always butter the toast...

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 29/04/2020 21:11

There is a parallel universe of a thread going on here about spaghetti hoops. Get over there and stick up for them. They're getting a right bashing 🙁

BikeRunSki · 29/04/2020 21:14

Heinz Ravioli, toast, grilled cheese (or at least grated so it melts). Sunday tea, or if you’re poorly.

Can’t stand spaghetti hoops though.Grin

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/04/2020 21:38

Oh, I used to really like this as a small kid! But not on toast.
