Ravioli on Toast.

It’s wrong isn’t it? My DH thinks it’s a Good Thing. The tinned stuff in sauce. Not the lovely Buitoni type with the mince in the sauce ( which should be enjoyed in a bowl with a shake of Tabasco) but the Heinz stuff. I like it on its own. He insists on toast. Grim ?

It’s got to be on toast smoothed in extra mature grated cheddar

ladymalfoy · 28/04/2020 17:58

My God. You nest of vipers. I came here for vindication. You’ve betrayed me. DH is now laughing at my hubris. And he’s impressed with the cheese suggestion.

my mum used to do this, and I never really liked it, but Lidl used to sell great big tins of the loveliest ravioli... all forrin writing on the label too (back in the day!) and in the oven with mozzarella on top and serve with some ciabatta it was a super easy tea for the kids and they loved it

Always on slightly burnt toast with grated cheese.

Iliketeaagain · 28/04/2020 18:06

Oh now I really want tinned ravioli.. it's the absolute best comfort food. From a bowl, with grated cheese, with soft bread to soak up the sauce..

Your husband is not wrong.

Bigsighall · 28/04/2020 18:06

Yabvvvvvvvvu. Carb on carb yum

Nooooo. Posters have just proved that MN isn't totally anti men - the woman isn't always right, just mostly.

safariboot · 28/04/2020 18:22

Yum yum. Yes, tinned ravioli I have on toast. I'm not sure how else I'd have it?

It's something where brand matters though, some of them are lousy. I find ones with mince in the sauce weird, the meat belongs inside the ravioli IMHO.

NoLongerAnEasyTarget · 28/04/2020 18:30

Oh I never heard of it being on toast.
I used to eat it in a bowl. Same with tinned Bolognese, just on its own on a bowl.

Tried it as an adult and it was vile, but loved it as a kid.

ArbitraryNameChange · 28/04/2020 18:43

Oh god yes.

TheDogsMother · 28/04/2020 18:54

Carbs on top of carbs. Noooooo that's wrong. Like having rice and potatoes on the same plate.

Mucklowe · 28/04/2020 18:57

Filthy. But delicious.

Mrsjayy · 28/04/2020 19:03

It is a comfort food and delicious, toast has to have butter and tin needs to be heinz though.

Yesterdayforgotten · 28/04/2020 20:13

'Like having rice and potatoes on the same plate.'

Noooo it's like having chips/garlic bread with lasagne which is so right!

Betelgeyse · 28/04/2020 20:18

Dirty but delicious 😋

Notso · 28/04/2020 20:23

The online thing worse than tinned ravioli is tinned macaroni cheese. Bleurgh!

Indeed! One if the children I was keyworker for alternated between the two every single day for lunch. I used to have to hide my heaving. They absolutely stank.

I can't stand ravioli in any form, tinned or freshly made.
DH loves the Heinz one on toast though, unfortunately.

Haworthia · 28/04/2020 20:25

I had Heinz ravioli on toast recently for the first time in YEARS and it was heaven.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/04/2020 21:03

Carbs on top of carbs. Noooooo that's wrong

But if carbs on carbs was wrong, the chip butty wouldn't exist and it very much does.

If canned ravioli wasn't meant to be served on toast, what would you use to mop the sauce up?

Mrsjayy · 28/04/2020 21:27

Carbs and carbs can be wonderful i mean chips and macaroni is nothing like rice and potatoes Grin

Ladyglitterfairydust · 28/04/2020 21:35

On toast is exactly the way to eat it.

AppleFruitloaf66 · 28/04/2020 21:40

.....and what about the tins of sausages and beans on toast.
Those little sausages...mmmmm.
Ahem, as you were...

But definitely ravioli on toast, yes 😋.

Zhuleva · 28/04/2020 21:46

No - it's amazing. Get with the programme

Haworthia · 28/04/2020 22:01

Why are so many people horrified by carbs on carbs? Baked beans are carbs too, and no one thinks eating beans on toast is wrong Grin

Naithnira · 28/04/2020 22:03

No. It’s a carb on a carb. Totally wrong imo.

user3274826 · 29/04/2020 00:58

Tea bags on toast. Of course with toast. Carb on carb rules don't apply with tinned food.
