Ravioli on Toast.

It’s wrong isn’t it? My DH thinks it’s a Good Thing. The tinned stuff in sauce. Not the lovely Buitoni type with the mince in the sauce ( which should be enjoyed in a bowl with a shake of Tabasco) but the Heinz stuff. I like it on its own. He insists on toast. Grim ?

Oh yes with cheese and black pepper.

insancerre · 28/04/2020 17:21

Yum, with cheese
Not had that for ages

SistemaAddict · 28/04/2020 17:22

I've just added some to my waitrose order. I hope it doesn't get substituted.

It’s sort of no different to lasagna on garlic bread just a bit cheaper!!

EggysMom · 28/04/2020 17:23

Now I understand.

Heinz told me they were prioritising manufacture of popular items, hence why they had stopped spaghetti bolognese but were continuing with things like ravioli. And I thought "Why, who likes tinned ravioli?"

Now I know. It's Mumsnetters. (Except me.)

gingercat02 · 28/04/2020 17:24

AMAZING actual food of the gods. On toast with butter and cheese. Same with tinned spaghetti. My guilty pleasure lunch

AndromedaPerseus · 28/04/2020 17:26

Hadn’t had ravioli for 30 years when I was a student will add a tin to my next shop. On buttered toast sounds good

mastertomsmum · 28/04/2020 17:27

It's supposed to be on toast. It's an old fashioned non Italian pasta tradition.

It's revolting, I didn't know they still sold it.

I wish you could still get Findus type fishcakes with more potato and hardly any fish in, I did like those with beans cheese and pickled cauliflower as a child

Sparklingbrook · 28/04/2020 17:27

I would put that in the category of food to have when you are poorly bad, same as Heinz Tomato Soup and Spaghetti Hoops. Back of the pantry gathering dust in the meantime.

Holothane · 28/04/2020 17:28

My guilty pleasure same as Heinz maccaroni cheese.

iklboo · 28/04/2020 17:36

YY to Heinz spaghetti on toast with a nice strong cheddar underneath the spaghetti so it goes all melty.

LoveandHalloumi · 28/04/2020 17:38

To be fair, Venus Tiger, it's not really pasta, at least not as recognisable to any Italian Grin

I've been craving this since lockdown began but haven't been able to get tinned ravioli in our local sainsbury's yet (clearly snapped up by MNetters). You've got to have it on thickly buttered toast with a few splashes of worcestershire sauce, grated cheese and loads and loads of pepper on top. Then you cut squares of the toast and mash the ravioli into the bread. One of my best ever dirty foods.

Unfortunately I married an Italian and he takes his food pretty seriously. I mentioned the above to him once and he almost dropped dead on the spot, so whenever I have this for lunch, it is when I am alone and can dispose of all evidence.

Another guilty, dirty favourite of mine is batchelor's pasta 'n' sauce. Especially cheese and broccoli flavour. Now this I can get hold off quite easily and I've had it once a week since lockdown started (DH still going to work). I don't have this on toast, just straight from the pyrex dish in which is has been microwaved. Perfect comfort food for this occassion.

Youngatheart00 · 28/04/2020 17:39

Reminds me of my student days! Lots of butter on the toast too....

curlymom · 28/04/2020 17:42

Why did you have to mention it? I want some now!

EggysMom · 28/04/2020 17:43

Loads of tins in Manchester. I'll trade it for tinned spaghetti bolognese. [Not really, the postage would be prohibitive!]

Durgasarrow · 28/04/2020 17:46

What???? No! Are you kidding??

LoveandHalloumi · 28/04/2020 17:48

Would love to Eggsy'sMom but I haven't seen much of that around these parts either. Plenty hoops though!

Oldbutstillgotit · 28/04/2020 17:48

I now want ravioli on toast

goose1964 · 28/04/2020 17:49

I used to have it when I was a child, then we realised it coincided with the squits , haven't eaten it since . But it is a thing

Sparklingplasters · 28/04/2020 17:50

I really want this now! Love ravioli on toast

TypingError · 28/04/2020 17:51

I find it extremely unappetising. The look and the taste.

Andahelterskelterroundmylittle · 28/04/2020 17:51

How else would you eat it?

MashedPotatoBrainz · 28/04/2020 17:52

The only thing better than ravioli on toast is Campbell's meatballs in gravy on toast.

DuLANGDuLANGDuLANG · 28/04/2020 17:54

YA both BVVU.

The online thing worse than tinned ravioli is tinned macaroni cheese. Bleurgh!

Veggie sausages and beans in a tin however, is awesome (and definitely goes on toast).

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 28/04/2020 17:55

Yeah, it's an "on toast" as is Heinz Spaghetti Bolognese in a tin.
