What's good on Netflix that isn't crime, murder, drugs etc?

I'm fed up with crime in all its forms, including the documentaries like Tiger King and Don't F**k With Cats. I also dislike most fantasy and superhero stuff. I've just watched Unorthodox which I loved, and I realised that what I want to watch at the moment is human stories, social and emotional dramas and historical things. What else is there on Netflix for me that I might enjoy? Thank you.

Atypical, Dead to me, Orange is the new black (it's the best, I didn't want to watch but so glad I did!), USA shameless. Russian doll was good too.

The Durrells

Kingdom is totally gripping, I am constantly amused at how exactly the pitch went across - " We want to make a 17th century costume drama about politics and social hierarchy in Korea. With zombies". It's awesome though!

boatyardblues · 26/04/2020 10:54

I’ve been watching Kingdom because zombies scare the hell out of me, but its so well done. The cinematography is amazing, especially the wetland scenes at daybreak at the end of the first season. The whole thing is class.

Watching Kingdom in bitesize chunks...

Stillfunny · 26/04/2020 10:54

If you liked Unorthodox , try Shiestel , or Bonus Family , both foreign language but good.

AnyFucker · 26/04/2020 10:55

Shtisel is the best thing I have watched for ages

Offspring
Dear White people
Grace and Frankie

"Win the wilderness" if you haven't already seen the BBC version. Although it is a reality show, it has a very human story and I was in tears by the end

HotCrossBungle · 26/04/2020 11:18

Anne with an E - historical, heartfelt

TerfTerfTerf · 26/04/2020 11:27

'Five Bedrooms' (iPlayer) is Australian and hilarious and tragic in equal measure. No crimes or murders.

I also loved Unorthodox, Virgin River, Northern Rescue, Love Marry Repeat, and Brooklyn. I could not get into Shtisel at all

If you feel like signing up to Apple TV (can do a month free) Morning Wars is brilliant.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 26/04/2020 11:30

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - skip the first series and start watching from the second when Danny DeVito joins the cast.

The Kominsky Method

White Gold

Another vote for Bonus Family.

BeardedMum · 26/04/2020 16:14

And another vote for the Bonus family and also try the Danish series Rita.

Thanks for these intriguing suggestions. Good to know that there's a lot of stuff on Netflix that isn't crime, murder or gangs.
