What's good on Netflix that isn't crime, murder, drugs etc?

I'm fed up with crime in all its forms, including the documentaries like Tiger King and Don't F**k With Cats. I also dislike most fantasy and superhero stuff. I've just watched Unorthodox which I loved, and I realised that what I want to watch at the moment is human stories, social and emotional dramas and historical things. What else is there on Netflix for me that I might enjoy? Thank you.

Russian Doll.
Just started watching Afterlife on recommendations. Not a huge RG fan, was laughing and sobbing. Will binge it all.
How about Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes?

Dark Crystal. Beautiful to look at, great cast and I got embarrassingly gripped by the story Blush.

Cheer is brilliant.
I like all the true life documentaries on Whitney Houston, Princess Di etc.

Anne with an E definitely fits the bill.

Chernobyl? Lots of very human and emotional stories there, bit heavy though.

The Affair? First few seasons are really good.

now I get it.

it was written during the french occupation but the author later died in
Auschwitz. Her daughter found her work and published it then the film was made.

Bonfire of Destiny

MossWalk · 26/04/2020 09:20

There’s also Cheer Squad, which is equally batshit but enjoyable.

You can tell who loved Bring It On as a tween Grin

MysweetAudrina · 26/04/2020 09:21

Unorthodox is fabulous.

Just binged watched the 2nd series of Afterlif. Very well done by RJ and he really puts himself through every emotion.

ZaZathecat · 26/04/2020 09:21

The Press is on Netflix, it's a great BBC drama series about 2 rival newspapers in London.

I found After life too depressing to watch, (though it's really well done) and Ann with an e quickly got boring, and it reminded me of Dr Quinn medicine woman(Sunday night drivel)

hadwebutworldenoughandtime · 26/04/2020 09:23

Queen Victoria and her nine children was really good. Watched it with DD12 and she wanted to find out more about some of the other children at the end so really sparked her interest.

The Durrells might work - very uplifting.

Untangl3d · 26/04/2020 09:23

The Let Down is really good and funny. I loved Anne With an E.

Powerplant · 26/04/2020 09:27

I second The Durrells

Lifesbetterwithwine · 26/04/2020 09:29

Another vote for ‘Cheer’ here.

sleepwhenidie · 26/04/2020 09:29

Living with Yourself also good

sleepwhenidie · 26/04/2020 09:30

And I’m quite enjoying Dead to Me.

maddy68 · 26/04/2020 09:31

The good way. With ted dansen

He is a kind of God and builds an afterlife. Light-hearted and easy to watch

maddy68 · 26/04/2020 09:31

The good place sorry

HaveAtEm · 26/04/2020 09:32

Do you have Amazon Prime? There's some good stuff on Prime Video. I've just finished New Amsterdam and I'm working my way through Modern Family now 👍

DuffRose · 26/04/2020 09:35

Just finished watching the let down which was good.

champagneplanet · 26/04/2020 09:37

Another vote for Brooklyn 99, something that DH and I will actually watch together. It's easy to watch and episodes aren't long so you can watch back to back.

ScarletAnemone · 26/04/2020 09:39

The Two Popes

Timeandtune · 26/04/2020 09:40

Definitely Call My Agent. Also Bonus Family.
