Brooklyn- it’s funny and very touching really enjoyable film (young Irish girl moves to NY)

I was also going to say “Catch me if you can” and “Cinema Paradiso”.

For done very light and understated,”What We did on our Holidays” is glorious.

A PP mentioned Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, which are both gorgeous films. If you like these & don't mind subtitles, similar are La Gloire de mon Père and Le Chateau de ma Mère, also lovely films set in very scenic parts of France

BikeRunSki · 26/04/2020 13:27

Fisherman’s Friends

A lot of good suggestions but would like to add:

Sense & Sensibility (and anything directed by Ang Lee except Hulk)

Far from the Madding Crowd (either but I prefer the one with Carrie Mulligan)

Gorky Park

A Serious Man

Foreign language films:
The Great Beauty
Tell no one
Smoke & Mirrors
Theeb

Destination Wedding was weirdly enjoyable, once you realise you're MEANT to dislike both main characters. At least, I HOPE you're meant to dislike them.

SandAndSea · 27/04/2020 13:18

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Thanks. I will definitely check this out. I got accused of being a Walter Mitty type by a fellow MNer under a previous user name!
