I love Fried Green Tomatoes!

And, with one of the same actresses: Benny and Joon.

Steel Magnolias and Amelie are great films. Chocolat is good too.

rosegoldwatcher · 25/04/2020 19:41

As you like A Room with a View, I would recommend A Handful of Dust -- similar 20th century costume drama with a bit of bite.
It is free on Amazon Prime atm.
(Also The English Patient and Lion as mentioned by PPs.)

Bin85 · 25/04/2020 19:42

The Crown

Ladies in Lavender

Nothing to offer except that Out of Africa is my favourite film of all time. Robert Redford at his absolute luscious best. 'I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong hills....'

EdithHope · 25/04/2020 19:47

Age of Innocence, as you like A Room with a View. Maurice and Howard's End are the other Merchant Ivory adaptations.
The Prestige is good for a bit of tension and mystery.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/04/2020 19:48

Howard’s End
The End of the Affair
The Railway Man

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/04/2020 19:54

(Usually autocorrect takes apostrophes out to make you look stupid, but there it added one in. And, no, I don’t know why EM Forster didn’t use an apostrophe 😂)

Following in from When Harry Met Sally:
Sleepless in Seattle
You've got Mail
Green Card
It's Complicated

RuffleCrow · 25/04/2020 20:05

"Carol" is by the same author as TMR and has a similar period feel.

The Before Sunrise trilogy has a similar "boy meets girl, then meets her 10 years later" theme to When Harry Met Sally. And it's funny in a different way, at times.

MillieMollieMandi · 25/04/2020 20:30

Before Sunrise / Sunset
Almost famous
