So is everyone now able to buy what they wanted in the shops?

After months of not being able to buy any anywhere I popped into a small local shop that I do not normally use and bless them, they not only had hand wash on the counter but hand gel too (simple pleasures!). Yes I know I could have bought soap but as I share a flat with non family members I think it is best to use hand wash! After my joy of being able to find Arborio rice at last and some pasta I am quite overcome (slight exaggeration there!).

Anyone still having difficulty?

My normal big Tesco had both plain flour and self-raising this morning. Only thing I couldn't get was brown rice. Eggs, pasta and tinned food aplenty.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/04/2020 11:46

I can't get macaroni shaped pasta anywhere! So I'm making macaroni cheese with penne

I got some! Finally.

Now my craving for macaroni cheese has gone.

I'd kill for some four.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/04/2020 11:46

I'd also kill for some really good aged Indian basmati rice.

Our local supermarket had loads of yellow stickered eggs on Thursday, so variable throughout the country.

Mama1980 · 18/04/2020 11:49

My Sainsbury's delivery had flour this morning, I got 4 bags (all different types)

Mama1980 · 18/04/2020 11:50

Meant to say my brother was able to get flour in store too.

MrsJonesAndMe · 18/04/2020 11:59

@thunderthighsohwoe next is currently open.... just checked!

Bouledeneige · 18/04/2020 12:04

Could get everything really - plenty of flour and pasta. I couldn't get Arborio rice but could get Sainsbury's Risotto rice instead. Main shortages seem to be in hand sanitiser.

We are self isolating so can't go cruising the shops - so dependent on getting online deliveries and friends getting top ups.

I just ordered some face masks for my elderly father and my household in case they become mandatory. Amazon only had ones that would turn up in May or June but I found some from a medical supplies company which should come by the end of April hopefully.

Tescos is empty of customers and full of people stacking shelves.
Bread flour and yeast is still missing.Eggs are hit and miss. There were a few boxes at £1.80 for 6 which I left.Im hoping the local garage has some more free range when I fill up with petrol.

AuntieMarys · 18/04/2020 12:08

No flour but plenty of everything else. I have fully stocked cupboards and fridge.
We use about 36 eggs a week (3 of us) and our local bakery has started selling them thank goodness.

dottiedodah · 18/04/2020 12:15

We have been lucky down here (South Coast) SR flour (2 boxes left ,took one left the other for a "lucky person"! Eggs not huge amounts ,so only buy one box .Still only allowed 3 tins of tomatoes ,pasta and loo roll though.Got some hand gel online (Amazon) about £8.00 per 100ml bottle)Big spaces in the bakery aisle and butter too!

dottiedodah · 18/04/2020 12:22

Hollys Bush BBCGOOD FOOD website has a recipe for yeast free pizza bases .Never actually tried it but they have a pic and it looks good!

cookiemonster5 · 18/04/2020 12:29

@coconuttelegraph we don't have anything like that where I live. I'm in a small town. But I have a couple friends who work in the 2 supermarkets here so they are going to let me know when it comes in stock so I can get some and just change my shopping day to that day lol

CremeEggThief · 18/04/2020 12:32

No eggs or flour in both Asda and Lidl here. County Durham. No rice either in Lidl, but everything else in stock.

RoseDog · 18/04/2020 12:34

I got an Asda delivery this morning and no pasta but got rice and eggs for the first time in weeks!

handslikecowstits · 18/04/2020 12:52

Couldn't get tomato puree or baking powder this morning. Tinned tomatoes were scarce. Loads of polenta though.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/04/2020 12:56

I do pizza bases without yeast even though I have yeast. It works fine.

Oldraver · 18/04/2020 14:30

Baking powder, OH has been trying for weeks

LoisEinhorn · 18/04/2020 14:58

Dried yeast. I managed to get fresh from a farm shop but i just can't use it.
I got it to work after a couple of tries then couldn't do it again.

happypotamus · 18/04/2020 15:25

No tinned chopped tomato in my Sainsburys still and, bizarrely, no wrapping paper at all. That's inconvenient because it's DD's birthday on Thursday and relatives are getting gifts delivered to our house for me to wrap.

thunderthighsohwoe · 18/04/2020 19:51

@InkogKneeToe 1.5-2y is what I’m after, ideally a multipack of short sleeved t shirt/vest type tops to wear with shorts. Have found some on TU now that will do - thanks for the tip!

Comefromaway · 18/04/2020 19:53

I still can’t get tinned tomatoes though I did get some passata last week.

I got arborio rice when the shop had no normal rice.

amusedbush · 18/04/2020 19:55

I managed to get flour in Asda about a week ago. There were four bags left on the bottom shelf and I almost threw myself on the floor trying to get at it.

The store assistant stacking the shelf next to me laughed and said I wasn’t the first to react like that - bags of flour are like bars of gold at the moment!

CatBatCat · 18/04/2020 19:58

Between lidl, aldi, sainsbury and many local aisian and Eastern European supermarkets all a 5 min walk from here, I've managed to get everything. One of the local Asian shops has an on site bakery and is even giving away bags of flour for free.

jillandhersprite · 18/04/2020 20:04

Yep only thing I still would like is bread flour. We have always baked a loaf and pizzas each weekend. I have gone down to just one or the other each weekend and my supplies have finished today. Have a bag of plain flour which I'll try next week... But I would love to find some during this week's shop...
