So is everyone now able to buy what they wanted in the shops?

After months of not being able to buy any anywhere I popped into a small local shop that I do not normally use and bless them, they not only had hand wash on the counter but hand gel too (simple pleasures!). Yes I know I could have bought soap but as I share a flat with non family members I think it is best to use hand wash! After my joy of being able to find Arborio rice at last and some pasta I am quite overcome (slight exaggeration there!).

Anyone still having difficulty?

Was only having problems with flour, but out local bakery have just started delivering and that includes bags of flour. We have been getting a bit more creative with shopping around to find the most reliable suppliers for various things - getting meat from a local supplier and bars of soap from a local goat farm (they usually sell at the market).

I still can't find arborio rice. Other than that everything is available. Its costing a bit more using the local butcher, farm shop, dairy etc but the produce is better. Cupboard staples are mostly no problem at tesco.

lotusbell · 18/04/2020 10:23

Done 2 big shops at Morrisons then one at Asda on Thursday. Still not much in the way of rice and pasta at either and no handwash or handgel either. Asda had a fair bit of loo roll in, all sizes. Including the Nicky brand I used to get from Home Quality Bargain Save.

ExclamationPerfume · 18/04/2020 10:24

Still no handwash or hand sanitiser in any of the shops. I have ended up having to order some from a neighbour who does Avon.

Soup and cereal shelves are very bare too.

No flour, and I’m desperate to get DD some plain vest tops and shorts but can’t get onto Next when open for love nor money! Searched online and can’t find anything else of a similar quality and price in stock 8n her size 😔

However, I’m not opposed to her running around in a nappy if it’s warm enough, so probably not essential

Beepmeepbeep · 18/04/2020 10:25

Eggs, flour and Dettol wipes still nowhere to be seen.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 18/04/2020 10:26

yes, everything.
Our Tesco has queues at 8am (the hospital I work at is next door), but I go at 17.00 after work, and can see they're restocking in the afternoons so I wonder if going later might be better?

Ohffs66 · 18/04/2020 10:27

I've resorted to buying yeast at an inflated price on eBay and ordered some bread flour from Amazon that won't arrive til May but other than that our local supermarkets seem to be almost back to normal, other than the freezers being quite sparse and random things being out of stock. The baking aisle was barren yesterday apart from some suet and a couple of bags of spelt flour.

duckme · 18/04/2020 10:28

I can't get fizzy pop. It seems to be the new toilet paper. Also greaseproof paper, flour and eggs are still hard to get.

starrynight19 · 18/04/2020 10:28

Our local supermarket is still hit and miss with eggs and pasta but had no flour in for a few weeks.

catfeets · 18/04/2020 10:30

Still can't find flour, rice, hand wash, hand gel, tinned veg (except sweet corn - they can't get rid of that anywhereGrin), and dettol.
Toilet rolls, cat food and cat litter is hit and miss.
No luck in my local shop either, they have very little stock of anything.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 18/04/2020 10:30

Can't get paracetamol at all, anywhere! Other than that and flour, everything else is fine

Echobelly · 18/04/2020 10:31

Only flour really - apparently mills have just had trouble keeping up. It's annoying as I bet lots of people who've bought flour aren't going to do anything with it, they just bought it in a blind panic so they could make 'something' if everything else runs out.

I avoided our local high street supermarket until last week as I've found the queue is pretty quick and it has most stuff.

Chrisinthemorning · 18/04/2020 10:33

Flour and tinned tomatoes still a problem.

EasyLifer · 18/04/2020 10:33

Everything seems normal now in our Tesco, apart from having to queue to get in. DH is getting our usual weekly shop and we are having the same meals/snacks/treats that we normally would.

ParkheadParadise · 18/04/2020 10:33

My local tesco had flour this morning I didn't buy any.
Didn't have any sugar.
Everything else in back in stock.

DinosApple · 18/04/2020 10:36

Flour and yeast are the only things I can't get.

I don't need much yeast (only for pizza dough) but flour I get through pretty fast.

nowaitaminute · 18/04/2020 10:37

I Never struggled to get items at all...but then again I'm in Ireland and our supply chain didn't seem to be affected

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 18/04/2020 10:38

It has got a lot better than it once was. Still struggling to get some fresh fruit / veg / herbs though; eggs are coming back but flour is still a rarity.

cookiemonster5 · 18/04/2020 10:40

The only thing I haven't managed to get is biscoff spread and hand gel but I haven't ran out of the hand gel yet.

Managed to get anti-bac wipes and spray, bleach spray, toilet cleaner and there is no problems getting flour or eggs or yeast as long as you go earlier in the day before they run out. No problems with toilet roll either here now.

EasyPleasey · 18/04/2020 10:40

Tesco Extra had everything I wanted in stock, even flour and yeast. I expect those things will still sell out quite quickly for the moment as more people baking.

Neverendingapril · 18/04/2020 10:41

No tinned peas for the last couple of weeks, very low on baked beans, not much choice of cheese. Is this because kids are eating more meals at home now schools are closed perhaps?

Snorkelface · 18/04/2020 10:43

So many Sainsburys Local/Tesco Express branches near me, as well as the superstores, that nothing has really run out - except Paracetemol. Noticed the Best Before dates are getting shorter though. I'm sticking with the smaller branches as they're quieter, open later and are constantly being restocked. Tesco generally better than Sainsburys. The new essential this week though has been Cadbury Creme Eggs for 12p each which definitely will run out!

HollysBush · 18/04/2020 10:43

Got flour yesterday! We love homemade pizza. But still no yeast!

InkogKneeToe · 18/04/2020 10:44

@thunderthighsohwoe what size vests are you after? I'm usually a Next shopper for my son but have found M&S and Sainsburys to be suitable alternatives.

Only thing I've struggled to get is vegetarian products - mince, sausages, "chicken" pieces, but that's been an issue since everyone went vegetarian/vegan in January
