So is everyone now able to buy what they wanted in the shops?

After months of not being able to buy any anywhere I popped into a small local shop that I do not normally use and bless them, they not only had hand wash on the counter but hand gel too (simple pleasures!). Yes I know I could have bought soap but as I share a flat with non family members I think it is best to use hand wash! After my joy of being able to find Arborio rice at last and some pasta I am quite overcome (slight exaggeration there!).

Anyone still having difficulty?

No flour and we are struggling to get fresh veg. Having to go to 3 supermarkets to get the quantities needed of a lot of things (family of 7 and now shopping for a couple who are shielding as well).

I can't get macaroni shaped pasta anywhere! So I'm making macaroni cheese with penne 😂

HarrietTheShy · 18/04/2020 10:52

Doves Farm is doing a flour selection box with yeast. It comes into stock in the morning and is live until that day's allotment sells out: www.dovesfarm.co.uk/products/organic-flour-box

I got one Thursday around 9:45 AM and it's being delivered today by DPD.

dazzlinghaze · 18/04/2020 10:52

My Asda delivery came yesterday and I didn't get the mince, shower gel, bin bags or cat food I ordered and none of it was substituted either. Also didn't get a few random things I ordered such as new drinking glasses and face cloths.

dazzlinghaze · 18/04/2020 10:52

I did get toilet roll though! Grin

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 18/04/2020 10:56

There’s a wholesaler near me selling flour. You have to buy 5 or 10 kg bags though!

They’re not selling usual wholesale amounts to catering companies, schools or restaurants so have opened up to public.
Apparently there’s not a shortage of flour, just not the distribution to put it in 1kg bags.

BearSoFair · 18/04/2020 11:02

We had a couple of weeks of almost normal stock levels but really struggled this week, DH went and came back saying it looked like people had been in just grabbing whatever they could off the shelves again! We couldn't get most veg, bananas, milk, chicken thighs, lamb mince, flour or hand soap (last two not a surprise though)

Jenasaurus · 18/04/2020 11:03

I am just using my milk man for my needs at the moment, and to be honest I never realised you could get so much from him. He even delivers loo roll.

I am not worrying about what I cant get, as most meals can be made by eggs, cheese, milk, bread and some meat, all of which he delivers, I still have frozen veg

I have about 6 bottles of cheap bleach from a while ago (basically I got one every time I went shopping and havent used them... -because im lazy and avoid cleaning if I can-

Anyone else still use a milkman for their needs? If not I recommend one, they can get the essentials to your door and it stops you buying things you think you need when you glance them in the supermarket.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/04/2020 11:05

No galaxy chocolate
No rice
No pasta

jay55 · 18/04/2020 11:05

Yeast, baking powder, surface wipes and pork shoulder eluded me this week.
Managed to get bleach though for the first time.

No online deliveries sorted despite hours on the phone trying to get on the priority list for slot. With any of the three stores. Two shielding letters, two phone calls and three texts about the whole household to shield but still can’t get on list. Using small stores to get deliveries but I literally can’t afford that any more..

kimlo · 18/04/2020 11:11

no flour
no handwash
no bubble bath Confused
I'm starting to think hand gel is a made up thing that never exsisted in the first place like unicorns.

eggs are a bit hit and miss

CountFosco · 18/04/2020 11:16

We are desperately short of eggs. Our milkman says they are impossible to get hold of, we swapped to getting a lot with our milk delivery (cheese, yogurt, bread, eggs) but they can't guarantee the eggs. We are a family of 5 and my normal purchase was 15 eggs a week so really missing them, DH got a half dozen from the corner shop last weekend and that has been it (there was another box and the fool left them). When all this ends I'm getting hens.

MadisonAvenue · 18/04/2020 11:20

No flour, no eggs still, very little in the way of cereal, fruit and veg is hit and miss as is meat and dairy. Not easy to get any tinned goods. Bread is often very short dated when it appears on the shelf. I managed to get a 5kg bag of rice last week but the usual 500g or 1kg bags which I’d usually buy aren’t available.

Jenasaurus · 18/04/2020 11:22

Morrisons food boxes are available again today if anyone is in need, they do a veg one a meat one, a family one and a ready meal one.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/04/2020 11:26

Couldn't get caster sugar last week but got everything else no problem. Loads of flour when I went to Sainsburys. Must depend on how soon after they've restored that you get there.

coconuttelegraph · 18/04/2020 11:28

I've managed to get everything I need, the yeast surprises me, I had no idea so many people made their own bread

The only thing I haven't managed to get is biscoff spread

Have you tried local discount type end of range shops, I don't buy it but I've seen it in my nearest one recently

Bettyboop3 · 18/04/2020 11:29

I couldn't get eggs, oven chips, spring onions or peppers when i did my shop this week in the large Tesco near me. Still no pasta although i did manage to get spaghetti.

GreyGardens88 · 18/04/2020 11:32

Lidl stripped of fresh produce when I went yesterday afternoon, so seems like people are still being bell ends with their shopping

Dalrympy · 18/04/2020 11:33

Flour and yeast. Mum and I are regular bakers so it's been annoying. Are lot of people suddenly making their own bread?

GreyGardens88 · 18/04/2020 11:33

Oh yeah still can't get hand wash anywhere, so I just use washing up liquid to wash my hands with

Aposterhasnoname · 18/04/2020 11:34

Everything except flour in our supermarkets, but there’s a local wholesaler that has that.

GreyGardens88 · 18/04/2020 11:34

The flour is probably sitting idle in huge piles in peoples garages up and down the land

ProfYaffle · 18/04/2020 11:36

Mostly OK but at the end of the day supermarkets seem to be quite limited.

I've found local, independent shops have been far more reliable for stock. One local cafe has re-opened as a shop selling catering sized packs of various things. They've been well stocked with flour, eggs, yeast and pasta through the whole of the lock down.

No paracetamol anywhere though.

Candyflosscookie · 18/04/2020 11:41

Everything seems back to normal where I am (north Scotland) except for hand sanitising gel. Our local Coop is limiting to 2 boxes eggs per customer tho so their supply must be a little tricky. Local farm type shop has duck eggs aplenty in the morning.
