Help!! Need a boy name!

babynamesarehard · 13/04/2020 22:48

Hey, having a boy and finding it impossible to pick a name for him. Husband and I are so fussy and every name I see I hate. I feel like girls names are so much easier! Here are the names I might have gone for if it was a girl as maybe that might help?!

  • juniper
  • Tabitha
  • Dorothy
  • ottilie
  • bronte

I am finding it so hard to even narrow down any names as there are literally none I like

  • I hate names that are too popular like Leo or Noah
  • I hate names that are part of a name like Freddie or Ollie instead of a whole name
  • I hate classic names like George or Charles as they seem boring and safe
  • I hate names that are too try hard like Apollo or Bay
  • I don't like modern trendy names like kayden or Kai

I feel like every park I go to has about a million elliots/Finlay's/Reubens etc so don't want anything like that.

We'll never find a name!! Only one I've even remotely considered for more than a second was max as I think it sounds strong and I like the X sound but immediately ruled out by DH as he thinks it's a dogs name.

Please help xx

They aren’t nicknames, they’re diminutives Nicknames are quite separate from the name and are usually connected with a hobby, or a specific feature or something quite random.

Digby is a great name, plus for some reason it is one of the first names small children can say so you'll hear it a lot in pre-school playtimes Grin
It is shortened(?) to Digs or Diggers, very masculine vibes.

Jacob
Lucas
Frank
Geoffrey

Adam strong, classic and definitely timeless

Remember your child has to live with the name you choose so be kind! Oh and make sure it goes with your surname so not Mark Park or Morris MinorGrin

Ptolemy
Malachi

TerrorWig · 14/04/2020 19:45

I hate names that are too try hard like Apollo or Bay

Have you seen your girls list?!

I have nothing for you. My boys have names that are common and boring and normal and also could be the shortened form of longer names.

NameChange30 · 14/04/2020 20:04

I dislike all your girls names so we probably have very different tastes, but I do like Max so here you go...

Adam (you might think this is boring but I think it's lovely and underused)
Blake
Cole
Elijah
Joel
Ivo (this is my favourite boy's name atm but I'm pregnant with a girl so it's up for grabs Grin)
Toby
Zack

Lots of Old Testament names there, the bible has some good'uns (I'm not religious though!)

Thank you guys, so e interesting ones to take away here! I genuinely don't think some would name their children the names suggested, Milton, fergus, Angus, Julian etc are all just asking your child to be bullied. I used to teach so I've heard thousands of names which makes this harder. I know jacks and ollies and Freddie's are popular for a reason and I'm not saying they arent gorgeous little people, it's just the names don't spark joy in me, they feel like a cop out.

I would hate my child to have the same name as others in their class, it's really sad for them and several children told me it made them feel less special so I'm not going to pick anything top 100 I think.

I like a few from here and I'm really grateful so thank you

Which ones do you like?

'Spark joy' made me smile, it's the child who will spark joy and not the name Smile

babynamesarehard · 15/04/2020 09:10

@TerrorWig what's wrong with my girls list?
