Where would you go on honeymoon in the UK?

I'm guessing the aviation industry is going to be taking a huge hit with Covid-19 and international travel will take a while to pick back up for most of us whereas hopefully UK travel will be back to normal before the end of the year. We've booked to go on honeymoon later this year but sadly that doesn't look possible. I'm gutted as I was really looking forward to it but it looks highly likely we will have to rethink our plans and find an alternative. Yes I know there are way bigger issues at the moment but still I can't help but feel sad

If you could go anywhere in the UK for your honeymoon, where would you go?

DH and I seriously considered going to The Scilly Isles for ours.

@MinnieMountain I'd never heard of them before but just googled and they look gorgeous!

  • A tour of the Scottish Highlands
  • Portmerion
  • Monkey world in Dorset, then a secluded beach cottage in Cornwall
  • ferry to Ireland and cycle/walk/drive the Great Atlantic Way

You could ferry over to Northern Ireland. The lakes in Fermanagh are beautiful and the north coast spectacular. Have a great time wherever you go!

We went to Gleneagles for our honeymoon a fair few years ago. It was wonderful.

Bobbybobbins · 07/04/2020 16:06

The Highlands or Islands in Scotland, Cornwall, London city break.

rosie1959 · 07/04/2020 16:06

Jersey but depending on the time of year

Permenantlyexhaustedpidgeon · 07/04/2020 16:07

Rudding Park!

DH and I toured around the Highlands, finishing up in Skye at The Three Chimneys for a couple of nights. It was incredible, but you've got to pick your time as it can be mad busy - we went in late autumn just before everything closed down for the winter. I think in summer you literally can't move on Skye for overseas tourists... so maybe this the year to go!

There are some beautiful hidden-away luxury hotels in the Lakes too. Or Northumberland?

AgentProvocateur · 07/04/2020 16:11

I’d do the North Coast 500, detouring to Skye to go to the Three Chimneys for a night. Then I’d spend two nights in Edinburgh at the end.

AgentProvocateur · 07/04/2020 16:11

Oh, cross posts with @TeaMilkNoSugarThanks re Three Chimneys!

We did have ours in the UK and we went to the Isles of Scilly. Totally recommend it. The islands are stunning, and each one is different. The people are lovely. And the food/drink is excellent. If your budget will stretch that far then the Star Castle hotel is amazing.

I'd go for a Landmark Trust place, or somewhere in Highlands / islands.

Landmark Trust- We stayed at the Gothic Temple in Stowe last year, absolutely magical. But self catering so depends if you want that or not.

Ginfordinner · 07/04/2020 18:19

The time of year is crucial for the West Coast of Scotland. If you are planning on going there during midge season then don't.

Ellmau · 07/04/2020 18:22

Lake District

Rubychard · 07/04/2020 18:28

We also went to the scilly Islands. Fantastic time.

Literaryseed · 07/04/2020 18:29

Husband and I went to one cotswolds for ours 6 years ago. Absolutely blissful. Lovely villages, pub lunches, gorgeous cottage on a farm. Total escapism.

morningworld · 07/04/2020 18:33

The Channel Islands are also stunning & either boat trip or short flight away. Flights will still fly here for the locals
😊

Oakmaiden · 07/04/2020 18:36

I went to the Isle of Arran for my honeymoon. We had glorious weather, which you really can't rely on, but it was fantastic.

FaithInfinity · 07/04/2020 18:45

We went to the Lakes. Not due to travel restrictions but because of finances. It was lovely. We had a little cottage with a massive step down jacuzzi bath and spent the week drinking pints of real ale Smile

MamaGee09 · 07/04/2020 18:55

Definitely the Lake District! We normally stay near Grange over sands however Windermere is lovely too. We love the area, plenty to do and see.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 18:56

What sort of thing do you like? Coast, rural, culture, nightlife, what's the priority?

MintToBee · 07/04/2020 18:58

We eloped to Glencoe and went up to Skye after for ours. Simply magical.

GreyGardens88 · 07/04/2020 19:00

Scotland, a few nights in Edinburgh and 10 days touring the Highlands

Bathroom12345 · 07/04/2020 19:03

I really really wouldn’t! Going on a ferry to Northern Ireland?? Really? Sorry. I would rather wait
