Where would you go on honeymoon in the UK?

I'm guessing the aviation industry is going to be taking a huge hit with Covid-19 and international travel will take a while to pick back up for most of us whereas hopefully UK travel will be back to normal before the end of the year. We've booked to go on honeymoon later this year but sadly that doesn't look possible. I'm gutted as I was really looking forward to it but it looks highly likely we will have to rethink our plans and find an alternative. Yes I know there are way bigger issues at the moment but still I can't help but feel sad

If you could go anywhere in the UK for your honeymoon, where would you go?

Isles of Scilly, the most beautiful part of the UK.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 07/04/2020 19:04

Llandudno - have a look at The Empire

YakkityYakYakYak · 07/04/2020 19:04

The Lake District, it’s incredibly beautiful

West Coast of Scotland. We were to Poolewe at the end of April one year and it was spectacular. Contrary to popular opinion, there were no midges either.

We stayed in a totally over the top hotel on the Isle of Wight. Think fairies and cherubs. It was great! Smile (enchanted Manor) worth a Google for the lols

In terms of what do we like, anywhere outdoorsy really but I think mountains or lakes would be nice as we already live near the coast.

DH has stayed at Glen Eagles before, he said it was a brilliant place to stay Smile

@Bathroom12345 why wouldn't you ferry to Northern Ireland? Obviously I'm not talking about during the pandemic but is there another reason you'd rather wait?

It depends what type of thing you want. DH and I rented a very remote, almost off-grid cottage in the Lake District. We were in a huge valley, but couldn’t see another house. For us, it was heavenly, but I get it may not be other people’s ideal.

Otherwise, Cornwall or the Highlands would probably be lovely.

St Ives in Cornwall
Oban in Scotland
Both stunningly beautiful in different ways

HippyChickMama · 08/04/2020 08:34

Snowdonia, beautiful mountains and scenery, lots of lovely villages with pubs and cafes and unusual shops

Covid192020 · 08/04/2020 08:51

That sounds lush @Equimum. Can you remember where you stayed?

Hire a canal boat. The Norfolk Broads are great for beginners as there are no locks. Moor up at a different pub each night.

midnightstar66 · 08/04/2020 08:56

My friend and husband hired a super posh camper and toured the Scottish Highlands and Islands for their honeymoon. They even had some nice weather. Looked amazing

ineedaholidaynow · 08/04/2020 08:57

Another one suggesting the Scilly Isles, although weather conditions can hamper travelling there some days

sneeuw · 08/04/2020 08:58

It depends where you live! The Highlands aren't that e'different if you already live there!

I'd think first about the experience you want. Luxury, isolation (sounds like it) a combination of the two or other things. Then narrow down from that. There are so many options that if you don't know what type of honeymoon you're wanting, location isn't necessarily that helpful.

TheFaerieQueene · 08/04/2020 09:02

Another wonderful place I’ve been to is The Scarlett in MawganPorth, Cornwall. It’s amazing.

Bluesheep8 · 08/04/2020 11:24

Whitby or Cornwall

Astoatora54 · 08/04/2020 11:26

We went to Cornwall for ours.

80sMum · 08/04/2020 11:29

I guess it depends on the time of year and on how much tolerance you have to rain, clouds and cool temperatures. If it's not going to be from November to March, then the Western Highlands of Scotland would be my choice.

TheChosenTwo · 08/04/2020 11:34

Burgh Island is beautiful. Didn’t go on honeymoon there but we do go for a long weekend there every year just the 2 of us and it’s my favourite few days of the year.

itoldyouyouwouldntlikeit · 08/04/2020 12:56

BoswellsBollocks · 08/04/2020 13:05

We had our honeymoon in Inverary.

It was 18 years ago so might have changed but the Inverary Inn (Or the Argyll as it was when we went) was lovely overlooking Loch Fyne and The George was good for food.

Dowser · 08/04/2020 13:07

A lot of these places are very weather dependent.
Oban in 12 degree temps In June a couple of years ago with rain was awful
You lot in england were cracking out the bbqs
I was in full on winter clothes
Eating fish and chips with freezing cold gands
