Are people hoarding it? It’s been 4 weeks since I’ve managed to get any

Ideally bread flour but I’d settle for plain

I tried doves farm direct but they say they’ve been so busy they have stopped selling to public too

The flour/home baking isle was the emptiest one in the whole supermarket when I went yesterday. You could buy sprinkles and balls etc to put on a cake, but no flour, yeast, icing sugar etc.

Flymetothetoon · 02/04/2020 23:09

DH managed to score a 1.5 kilo bag of plain flour this afternoon from Lidl. There would be mutiny in this house if they didn't get their home made Yorkshire puddings and pancakes !

peajotter · 02/04/2020 23:13

For all those looking for yeast, my dh asked at Tesco and they very kindly gave him a small bag from their bakery supply.

Shame we have no flour left to use it up now. We used to bake bread every day.

ZootSuit · 02/04/2020 23:22

Hi @Impatientwino did anyone take you up on your offer? If not, could I maybe have one?

lucysmam · 02/04/2020 23:59

@CaptainNelson thanks, we'll try it and see how we get on :)

amispeakingenglish · 03/04/2020 00:47

BestIsWest

If you put granulated sugar in a food processor or nutribullet and whizz you will get icing sugar. Re Flour the minute I got wind of panic buying I stocked up to make bread etc, same with baking marge. Glad I did. Have 6 to feed and the limits are not really fair. I have to shop 3 times as often as a household of two. More risk and more wasted time queueing.

houseinthemiddleofthestreet · 03/04/2020 01:25

It's in my pantry! I managed to get a 10kg bag of flour just as all of this was starting from Costco Grin

Impatientwino · 03/04/2020 06:55

@zootsuit no not had a request from anyone so you're more than welcome to some yeast. Just PM me your address and I'll pop in the post. Will be passing a postbox on our daily walk over the next few days.

Rockbird · 03/04/2020 07:07

@Impatientwino if there is any spare I would be so grateful for some please.

Impatientwino · 03/04/2020 07:09

@rockbird yes I have two sachets so happy to send you one. It's dated Apr 2020 though so needs to be used. Left over from last summer pizza making! Pm your address.

BlipBlopBloop · 03/04/2020 07:37

What annoys me most is when people are using it to make play dough! I usually make my own play dough, for the first time ever I’ve bought play doh from the shop! Since flour is running low and we do use it regularly, I can’t waste it on play dough. However a lot of people on my Instagram are having their go at making homemade play dough for the first time

Xiaoxiong · 03/04/2020 07:42

I had completely run out, but just managed to get 1.5kg strong White from my local fancy deli!

maddy68 · 03/04/2020 07:46

People are baking , making pastry , bread etc. I think in the begining people panicked and thought they wouldn't get flour etc. And they did stockpile. I picked some up no problem this week

Drogonssmile · 03/04/2020 07:50

The weevils are going to have a field day.
Weevils.
Everywhere.

I just like saying weevils.

LazyFace · 03/04/2020 08:16

I have a bread maker. It looks like I'll have to try making bread from self-raising flour. I hvae no idea where to get bread flour from.

ivykaty44 · 03/04/2020 08:22

Lazyface
Local farm shops, Amazon delivery, lidly

tonglong · 03/04/2020 08:30

Counties who normally export it are not so there is a shortage in supply.

SoupDragon · 03/04/2020 08:31

I don't think Amazon has bread flour in stock.

OrrAppleCheeks · 03/04/2020 08:58

If you’ve got lots of flour hanging about Grin, store it with some bay leaves to avoid weevils.

GuidoTheKillerPimp · 03/04/2020 09:05

We make bread three or four times a week. I have been deeply irritated by this sudden rush on bread flour by people who’ve never made bread before. 😡

(Lighthearted, before the fun police start jumping up and down).

StudentMummy20 · 03/04/2020 09:06

I managed to get flour when I first went shopping, still have it! I'm going to check today during my shop.

Cupcakesandconkers · 03/04/2020 09:06

@BlipBlopBloop exactly my point! Sorry

Fleab1te · 03/04/2020 09:51

I've haven't been able to get any in the shops for ages. Everywhere online is either sold out or temporary closed. I've just placed an order here www.realplasticfree.com/shop?search=Flour which surprised me because real foods (their sister site) has everything as temporarily unavailable. It does say limited availability though.

Wordofwarning · 03/04/2020 10:16

Just a thought but give your local pub/cafe a call - I say pub as they usually live in.

See if you can buy some of their stock?

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/04/2020 11:18

GuidoTheKillerPimp it is because plain flour is almost impossible to find so bread flour can be used instead for scones and cookies etc. I normally bake bread too but flour is so scarce at the moment I just buy bread off the shelf as there is loads at the moment and savour my four for other baking.
