I’ve never read an Agatha Christie book - which one shall I start with?

Considering I have time to kill now that I’ve lost all my clients... tell me which one I should download first! Smile

StampMc · 31/03/2020 21:55

And then their were none or a murder is announced

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/03/2020 21:56

And Then There Were None definitely

LlamasSitOnPyjamas · 31/03/2020 21:56

Towards Zero

Mirada · 31/03/2020 21:57

And then there were none.

moocowmrs · 31/03/2020 21:58

Yes And then there were none !

SpratsOnParade · 31/03/2020 21:58

And Then There Were None.

claracluck78 · 31/03/2020 21:59

I've started reading them in order, starting with The Man in the Brown Suit.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/03/2020 22:00

I second both of those, but my personal favourite is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

Five Little Pigs is good too.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 31/03/2020 22:01

Murder at the vicarage.

AnneLovesGilbert · 31/03/2020 22:02

Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

Second one should be They Came to Baghdad.

I’m quite envious you have so many treats ahead of you!

TankGirl97 · 31/03/2020 22:03

My personal favourites...
And Then There Were None
Crooked House
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Murder on the Orient Express
Nemesis
Five Little Pigs.

Actually, she did a few formulaic ones but most of her books are ace.

CheddarGorgeous · 31/03/2020 22:03

I am a stickler for doing things in order. Her first published book was the Mysterious Affair at Styles.

Body in the Library is one of my favourites.

DramaAlpaca · 31/03/2020 22:03

Nothing much to add other than I agree with everyone else!

And Then There Were None would be a very good first one.

The first one I read was Murder on the Orient Express, it got me hooked.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is also very good, so clever.

TheAugusta · 31/03/2020 22:09

I’m jealous you get to experience them for the first time now! IMO the best detective is poirot - ‘the murder of Roger Ackroyd’ is a masterpiece and the first one ‘The Mysterious Affair at Styles’ is brilliant. The best stand alone is ‘and then there were none’ but I’d start with a Poirot. The one I read first (because my dad bought it for me in a charity shop) was Evil Under the Sun which is also amazing. I also love them as audiobooks and the bbc full cast adaptation radio plays.

Forza14 · 31/03/2020 22:17

Start with the first...The Mysterious Affair at Styles”.

WarmSausageTea · 31/03/2020 22:17

For me, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd because it’s an early Christie, and a great story.

I love And Then There Were None, but for me it’s atypical Christie, so I wouldn’t start with it.

Going from early books to start is a good call, and I am very jealous that you’ve got so much to discover.

DelurkingAJ · 31/03/2020 22:20

Personal favourites:
The 13 Problems
The Body in the Library
Murder on the Orient Express
Evil Under the Sun

AnneLovesGilbert · 31/03/2020 22:21

Ooh yes. Evil under the sun is a cracker.

Mouseylu · 31/03/2020 22:26

ABC murders, Roger Ackroyd

SugarHockeyIcedTea · 31/03/2020 22:28

God I'm so jealous- I'd love to be able to start all over again. There is nothing better than a cuppa, squishing up on the sofa and reading an Agatha Christie book.

My favourites (in no order)

And then there were none (creeped me out when I was younger and still does!)
Body in the library
Murder in Mesopotamia
Death on the Nile
Mysterious affair at Styles
Cat amongst the pigeons
Murder at the Vicarage

I'll stop now- enjoy!

H1978 · 31/03/2020 22:29

Taken at the flood
Evil under the sun
my personal favourite: Murder on the links

WarmSausageTea · 31/03/2020 22:30

Evil Under the Sun is one my favourites. So clever and satisfying.

A bit of an oddity, but I really enjoyed Death Comes As the End.

I bloody love Agatha Christie. The friend I leant a load of her books to, never to be seen again, not so much.

Pomegranatemolasses · 31/03/2020 22:33

Sleeping Murder was the first one I read, 40 years ago! Loved her books. The ABC murders a great one also.

TiptopJ · 31/03/2020 22:33

I love why didn't they ask Evan's? The plots a bit ott but I was truly gripped in wondering who the heck Evan's is

I wasnt a fan of the marple series to begin with but the more of them I read I'm starting to warm to her
