I've been on the phone to 111 for...

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 17/03/2020 08:56

24 hours.
Except for one hour around 2am where I napped.

My daughter started with a cough and temperature yesterday. She's 6.

But before this she came out in a rash.
It covers her stomach and back. And now it is spreading up her neck and onto her arms.
She came out in this after starting new creams from the dermatologist, so I stopped the creams but it is still spreading.
I'm unsure if this is a reaction to the creams, a viral rash or something completely different such as scarlet fever.

I phoned the GP and asked for a phone call appointment. They refused advising me.to phone 111 (who I was on the phone to on the other line already) 🤦

What am I meant to do? If she has scarlet fever or something she needs antibiotics, but at the same time I don't want to infect anyone with anything that could potentially be serious.

@justwondering101 Maybe putting food on the table took all her money? People were on the breadline before this virus. This virus is going to put a whole lot more people there. So let's hope we can find a bit more compassion.

turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 10:57

This is stupid. It's like they've cancelled all GP services, not just anything relating to CV. Hopefully you get a way to get to A&E soon. I know what it's like to be impoverished and to not be able to get anywhere. It's pretty fucking miserable. As for the poster telling you that it's your responsibility - perhaps you could tell the government that so that they provide an adequate amount of UC to people to be able to get a taxi to hospital in an emergency.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 17/03/2020 10:57

GP has just phoned and confirmed scarlet fever.
I phoned the school to inform them as obviously she was there last week before the.cough and temperature started.
They still want us to stay away for 14 days.

Pleased you got an answer. What is the treatment? Sounds like a really tough time for you. Flowers

turdtimelucky · 17/03/2020 10:59

Will she get any treatment or does she just have to isolate?

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 17/03/2020 10:59

10 day course of antibiotics. Got to pick it up from the pharmacy. Along with my own medication (cocodamol, diclofenac, citalopram and quetiapine) and DS2s piriton for his allergies.

My uncle is going to collect it all for me and drop it off here.

Just Wondering .Well this poor lady does not need your unhelpful comments! Be grateful that you are not in a position of having no help /funds /DH/car/money/being bloody disabled on top! Really I am shocked at this attitude .There but for the grace of God go I and all that .Several posters offering lifts and being kind .This is poverty of the worst kind in a wealthy country like ours ,where someone has a poorly child and finding help difficult to access .Not enough cash for a taxi .I think with these symptons to call 999 and they should send an ambulance .These symptons are serious and need urgent treatment .I was fobbed off by my GP for several days ,and felt as though I was making a fuss ,Turned out to be Septecimia! I am not trying to alarm you but you need to call 999 ASAP. Dont bother with 111 or GP .Have to take other DC with you and they will probably have to arrange foster care for a short period

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 17/03/2020 11:01

Thank you to everyone being so kind. I'm honestly extremely grateful.
I haven't ignored everyone on purpose, my mind is just everywhere at the moment!

Well that's good that you've finally got an answer.

Becca19962014 · 17/03/2020 11:04

You take care of you. You don't need to reply to everyone. It's fine.
Hope the antibiotics work, they should within a couple of days.

I'm glad this has been resolved for you, both.

Well done to you for persisting for so long!!! What a bloody nightmare

whatsleep · 17/03/2020 11:05

That’s great news. Sounds like you are going to need support during this difficult time. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends and family, dont feel guilty asking Flowers

justwondering101 · 17/03/2020 11:07

I’m sorry, I think i’m getting caught up in it all and shouldn’t have said what I did. I will think more I future. I’ve just seen so many threads where families have left themselves so vulnerable and maybe my anger should be directed at the source. Just so perplexed as to how as a country we have got so many in this situation: will try and educate myself.

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 11:09

@justwondering101 take your self to another post with your snobby self that last post was clearly sarcastic goodbyeAngry

justwondering101 · 17/03/2020 11:10

@Bluebell121 it genuinely wasn’t. Got off my phone and realized my tone was way off and wanted to apologize

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 11:12

@justwondering101 your comment made me feel like shit can't imagine what it made OP feel like , I'm struggling I haven't got a pound to my name and I've just lent money and some unexpected bill has just come and took the money I lent to get more food imagine that? Then there's people like you that is in awe how someone doesn't have money for emergencies.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 17/03/2020 11:13

Great news, OP. Glad you’re getting the antibiotics. It’s one less thing to worry about. Well done for persisting on the phone for 23 hours. Ignore those suggesting you’re irresponsible.

justwondering101 · 17/03/2020 11:15

@Bluebell121 I can see that now. It’s easy to forget there are people behind these forums and want to just let you know that I’m sorry to you and anyone else I upset. Was having a very snobby shitty moment

Escapetab · 17/03/2020 11:21

Good for you justwondering admitting you were wrong and apologizing rather than doubling down which is what a lot of people would have done. I understand the gut reaction, that this just shouldn't happen and something is wrong somewhere - you're right, it is, but the fault isn't OP's, as you say in your more recent message.

I think a lot of people who have managed not to realize how desperate life can get for people in this country are having their eyes opened to it by covid. (This isn't necessarily a comment on justwondering, more a general observation.) I'm not in the OP's position right now but have been in similar ones, more than once. It wasn't my fault, I didn't have a choice. It isn't OP's fault.

OP, really glad you're going to get medicine. I hope your DD is ok. Be kind to yourself, keep posting to vent when you need to.

Sparklfairy · 17/03/2020 11:23

@Bluebell121 sorry you're having a shit time. I've been there without a penny to my name and combined with the added stress of what is going on in the world it must be soul destroying for you right now. Please don't feel like shit, we're all trying our best but MN can be a faceless bubble sometimes, justwondering did apologise and I for one have definitely been guilty of posting something in haste as a gut reaction which I later regretted. Hope things turn around for you.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 17/03/2020 11:33

It's very easy to blame individuals for the faults of the government, as that is what the government wants people to believe. That those of us with no money are in that situation because we are lazy or choose to live on benefits.

InglouriousBasterd · 17/03/2020 11:35

Ah I’m so glad you got a diagnosis. Thought it sounded familiar Grin antibiotics seemed to kick in very quickly so hopefully she will feel much better very soon

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 11:36

I'm glad you got to talk to someone. This is a huge problem. People need to be seen. We can't have 111 saying 'self isolate' to every child with a temperature and varying symptoms because it can so easily be something else.

Standrewsschool · 17/03/2020 12:01

Hooray, not that your dc is poorly, but you have resolution

Get well soon.
