Please help. I think XH has put a spy app on my phone

There was a software update today.
I went to delete some browser history on my phone and this pop up happened. I Googled Spysie and it's a spying app.

Does anyone know I can check it's on my phone if it's 'invisible'?
Is it something the police would take seriously?
How can I find out if it's him?
Is it even a scam to get people to panic then give the website their details including device's IME?

I'm not in physical danger but I definitely don't want him spying on my phone.

Please help. I think XH has put a spy app on my phone

A friend if mine’s now ex husband bugged her house when they split. They got suspicious as he mentioned things he couldnt have known about. Some people are just shit.

SpyApp · 09/03/2020 22:13

I don't really want to give them my IMEI though Pot. I'm feeling a bit paranoid ATM.
I'll try to follow the uninstall instructions until the last step and see if that turns anything up.

Has he had access to your other devices, OP? He could have put a key tracker on etc, be really careful. But yes, you need the evidence. It could be a police matter. I’d report it and take their advice.

OchAyeThaNoo · 09/03/2020 22:19

I'd be checking the house too. There may be listening devices around there.

Time for a big spring clean OP.

God, how are things like this even in existence and so readily accessible to creeps?

So that screenshot is from chrome, right? Are you able to check the browser history? Might shed light on what spyzie webpages were accessed or dates etc

I’d assume you can remove it by factory resetting your device but you may lose data

SpyApp · 09/03/2020 22:27

The uninstall instructions Harriet kindly posted aren't working because my phone doesn't have those pathways.
Bugger.

What phone do you have?

SpyApp · 09/03/2020 22:30

Yup I searched the browser history and found nothing. Then I did an 'all time' delete of browser history and went on a couple of websites. Deleted browser history again and got the same pop up even though I hadn't been on FB or Spyzie.

Can you try this app?

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antispycell.free&hl=en

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 09/03/2020 22:34

OP turn the phone off for now. Tomorrow go to a phone repair place. Most High streets have one. Ask them if they can tell if it’s on your phone and if so can they produce evidence that you can take to the police. If the phone show can’t help you then go straight to the police and report it. You’ll have to hand over the phone though so get a cheap handset and PAYG sim.

SpyApp · 09/03/2020 22:39

That app didn't find anything. Thanks for suggesting it. I've sent the screenshot to Spyzie so maybe they'll be able to tell me how their name got there too.

If you could screenshot your settings we could probably figure out the correct pathway for your phone

peonylane · 09/03/2020 22:52

Please do report this to the Police. Reports of Domestic stalking and harassment will be taken very seriously.

mnthrowaway202020 · 09/03/2020 22:58

I would actually recommend submitting your IMEI to them because it is a real program unfortunately

It is listed under the alias “system update service”, look out for anything related to this in your settings

mnthrowaway202020 · 09/03/2020 23:02

Visual guide, not sure what phone he’s using though:

Look under apps and biometrics and security, alternatively if your phone has a search function search settings for "Device administrators".

HarrietThePi · 09/03/2020 23:08

Sorry op might be a silly question but are you posting from a laptop or PC that he could have also accessed in some way? Just be careful Flowers

HarrietThePi · 09/03/2020 23:09

If you do a Google search about how to remove that spyware from your specific brand of phone you might find a step by step instructions.

This one looks similar to your phone’s software

mnthrowaway202020 · 09/03/2020 23:14

Actually the video I just posted should be the exact pathway for your phone

mnthrowaway202020 · 09/03/2020 23:16

Let us know if bloody “system update service” is present!

SpyApp · 09/03/2020 23:17

Just trying it...
