Tell me about your 'glitch in the Matrix' moments

Yesterday I was driving to the supermarket and was listening to an old 80's classic (Saint Elmo's Fire) via Spotify on the car's entertainment system. I pulled into a parking space and disconnected my phone, the car reverted to the radio default and picked up EXACTLY where the song had left off on my Spotify. Initially I thought I hadn't disconnected properly but then realised it was just a really weird glitch in the Matrix.

I love these! I've had a couple recently (almost certainly due to stress and lack of sleep, but still perhaps not...).

My daughter has three coloured pegs on the back of her door, one blue, one red and one pink. The pink is on the right-hand side, nearest the door knob. I know this because she always hangs her dressing gown on the pink peg (pink is her favourite colour), which was annoying because it would sometimes get stuck in the door when you tried to close it. Except the other night I was looking at the pegs and realised that the pink one had MOVED and was now on the extreme left-hand side near the hinge! DH claims it's always been there, but he is obviously a pod person. The really spooky thing is that DD has now started hanging her dressing gown on the new pink peg...

Also very recently, watching a TV programme with DH. Halfway through the first episode, the male lead suddenly started talking in a Scottish brogue. I was very confused and asked DH why he thought he'd switched. Apparently, the guy had been talking in a Scottish accent the whole time...(see? DH = pod person).

Yesterday I booked a train for the weekend using the Trainline app on my phone. Just as the sale went through for an 08:38 train, I saw in the corner of my phone the clock had just struck 08:38.

DropYourSword · 06/03/2020 15:01

Not sure this is the same but a few years ago I twice in the space of two weeks woke up with a small amount of coins scattered over my body.

I drove from one large town to another and home yesterday evening, a round trip of about 40 miles each way.

Every single set of traffic lights (dozens of them) on the entire journey went red just as I got to them. Including three on one large roundabout and at four separate sets of roadworks. There and back.

Love these threads.

Google the Mandela effect- freaked me out for WEEKS because I do remember it happening. Ive got shivers down my spine now just thinking about it!

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 06/03/2020 15:13

I phoned DH but instead got through to an equally confused man who was trying to call his girlfriend. DH picked up the call from me but ended up connected to the girlfriend instead. I can understand this happening in the old days of wired telephone exchanges, but how the fuck did that happen over the mobile network???

It was 1986 and I was revising for my finals. Taking a break I started reading The day of the triffids. On the first page the narrator states the date is Weds 8 May.
I was reading it on Weds 8 May!
It just wouldn't have been the same if I'd started it a day later.

I walked between three shops at Christmas and heard the full 'thank God it's Christmas' song between the three, each shop picking up where the last left off. No it wasn't the same radio station as I was so freaked out I went back and they were then playing different songs to each other.

A few months ago, organising our new home, I asked DH to bring in the silver mantle mirror from the garage to put above the new fireplace. I bought two a few years ago, one silver, one gold. The silver used to sit on drawers in ds's bedroom but I thought it would look good in this living room. He brought it in, and it was gold...as was the other one above the dining table. We both stared at each other for ages, freaked out.

Judgybitch · 06/03/2020 15:22

Oh another one.

Switching tv channels and catching snatches of dialogue on each one. Heard 'will you/ never/ butter my crumpet/ ill kill you. Or words to that effect. 🙂

I got on the tube and was sat opposite a nice Japanese family, parents and their very adorable little girl who had a distinctive backpack on. We exchanged smiles (I know, I’m a northerner). Much later I got back on the tube, same line but from a different station... the same family were sat, in the same seats opposite me. We all stared at each other!!

Back in the first few years of their marriage, my mum rang the flat to speak to my dad. But she had misdialled, and got through to the Club, where he happened to be propping up the bar, and picked the phone up because he was next to it.

He said, “how did you know I was here?” and she said, “but you’re at home.” “No I’m at the club.” ...

Isadora2007 · 06/03/2020 15:33

I see the same people most weeks at totally random times- I don’t know them but I recognise them. IYSWIM

SallyLovesCheese · 06/03/2020 15:36

I was standing on a quiet street corner having a phone conversation. A man walked across the road in front of me, from the corner, with two boys. One boy was wearing a red jumper and hopping from one painted line to another (road markings, like the white lines in the middle of the road).

A few minutes later, the same man and boys came past me, from the ssme corner, with the red-jumpered boy hopping from line to line...

BorneoBabe · 06/03/2020 15:38

I've had multiple people, in multiple locations/countries, stop me and call me 'Jen'. Dunno who she is, but she must be gorgeous. Grin

Years ago I worked at a big insurance company that had tens of thousands of little cards with customers' details on - some went back to the 19th century. I was very bored and decided to go to a random drawer and pick a random card and see if it was meaningful. I did this (literally an entire room of filing cabinets) and the name on the card was my first name (pretty unusual) and my very recent ex's name (very unusual, he was foreign), think like Marina Pierre.
Woo.

BogOffWinter · 06/03/2020 16:10

On a bus on the dual carriage way I saw the exact same car overtake twice. Same number plates and everything. Freaked out wasn’t the word for it! Grin

But then I frequently see things like that so I live in a permanent state of “do I actually exist, do other people actually exist or is everything I can see and feel and hear all an elaborate hallucination made up by my own head?!??”

TiptopJ · 06/03/2020 16:24

The same thing has happened to me OP. I cant remember the song but it was an old one I hadn't heard for ages I'd found on a CD. I got home and turned the cd player off in my car and the radio clicked on and the same song was playing at the exact same point I'd just stopped listening to

TheMemoryLingers · 06/03/2020 16:30

I don't have any, but love reading others'

Kalim8 · 06/03/2020 17:59

I was reading "Blast from the past" by Ben Elton. It starts with a phone call at 2:15..

I got a phone call at 2:15 (wrong number and they didn't even apologise!).

FusionChefGeoff · 06/03/2020 18:03

When I was about 15 I went on a very rare and exciting day out to London shopping in the Jan sales. We lived in the Midlands at the time.

My friend and I got on the tube at Oxford Circus and my Dad was in the same carriage!! He didn't even work in London but was on an equally rare visit to some corporate lawyers or something.

The odds must have been astronomical

amusedbush · 06/03/2020 18:53

A few weeks ago I was driving home from work and three days in a row I stopped to turn into our street and the same guy with his dog was waiting to cross the road at the same corner. It wasn’t even the same time every night either, it was around 5:30pm, 8pm and then 6:30pm.

I had a similar experience. I was in a coffee shop with my friend, facing the window, and a dad with twin daughters walked past. The daughters were wearing the same outfit but opposite (one had a white top with black skirt, the other a black top with white skirt). They looked cute so I pointed them out to my friend.

A couple of minutes they walked past again in the same direction as before. I know they were probably lost and had walked around the entire building, but it was a bit eerie for a second!
