Are you a motorway middle lane moocher?

I hate you. All of you.

I didn't get the chance to tell you on my 5 hour journey today but I hate you.

Mee toooo! I happily overtake though, and maybe throw in a little sideways glare in that split second when we're level. 👊🏼

GoofyIsACow · 28/02/2020 17:10

Yep, hate them too!

Joans3rddaughter · 28/02/2020 17:11

I think drivers do this when they are uninsured. Stick to the middle lane, do not give way to any traffic filtering in from the left. Stay in the middle lane and leave any risk to drivers in the other lanes, if other drivers make a manoeuvre into the middle lane, they are taking the risk.

AmericanAdventure · 28/02/2020 17:12

Not as much as I hate right hand lane moochers. "I'm just going to sit in the fast lane doing 65mph and you'll just have to like it".

TheLlamasPyjamas · 28/02/2020 17:15

Thank god I'm not alone, it's so frustrating, especially when the inside lane is almost empty! I wish I had a megaphone attached to my car sometimes 😭

I agree, I just don't understand why they don't move over! I'm not a speeder or anything, I'm using the other lanes to overtake and then move back over and then these drivers are just pootling along getting in the way!

TheLlamasPyjamas · 28/02/2020 17:20

Oh and @picklebarrelfalls I'm with you there, but I tried to over take one today and they actually sped up as I was over taking 😳 I mean wth?!

MrsMigginsPie · 28/02/2020 17:22

I’m not a middle lane moocher, and drive on the left hand lane when I can - but won’t if I’m about to overtake someone.

What I really hate is the pushy buggers who drive up your arse to get you to go in the left hand hand (even if you’d literally be moving back into the middle lane within seconds).

Or even worse the ones who undertake and then try to whip back in to prove a point.

MrsMigginsPie · 28/02/2020 17:24

Lol...yes also hate people who speed up as you’re overtaking!

ShirleyPhallus · 28/02/2020 17:34

Awful. And I’ve seen so many hogging the middle lane and doing 55 and when you get past them, they’re on their bloody phone.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/02/2020 17:38

With you on that one.

abitoflight · 28/02/2020 17:39

I wonder if they are aware of how dangerous it is?
I'm normally a left lane plodder - I cba with all that switching lanes and just go at the prevailing speed - 65ish but can be 70 - and I have to move bloody lanes for these idiots.

Lonelycrab · 28/02/2020 17:41

Yep hate em too the idiots. Sometimes give a toot on the horn as I pass if they’re really bad ie causing lots of traffic buildup and bottlenecking.

IceWings · 28/02/2020 17:48

I like the middle lane Blush
It avoids potential accidents when idiots whizz out of the slip road and cut you up in the left lane.

angorarabbit · 28/02/2020 17:50

I once saw a classic under taker whip in and out on a busy motorway....another car started to tailgate him. A bit further on I saw them in the hard shoulder, second car with lights flashing: was an unmarked police car! made my day!

angorarabbit · 28/02/2020 17:51

on not in

LolaSmiles · 28/02/2020 17:53

But I'm not a slow driver, so why would I use the slow lane? 🤔

I joke. I dislike middle lane hoggers too. Drive as far left as possible.

I have to admit OP, I'm really just waiting to see how many pages it takes before someone ignores the light-hearted nature of the thread and lectures us all on the benefits of being a slow and steady driver and how everyone should stop being so impatient.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/02/2020 17:56

@IceWings

But slip roads are several miles apart. Do you move to the left in between them? And do you actually look to see if traffic is heading down the slip road and giving a reason to move over, or move over just in case because you can see a slip road coming up?

slipperywhensparticus · 28/02/2020 17:56

Every time I've been on the motorway there has been nose to tail lorry on the left and speeding maniacs on the right I literally cant MOVE these days I'm avoiding motorways

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/02/2020 17:56

@LolaSmiles

But I'm not a slow driver, so why would I use the slow lane?

You had me for a second, then. I could feel my righteous anger rising...

LolaSmiles · 28/02/2020 18:00

ItsGoingTibiaK GrinGrin

JhustJenny · 28/02/2020 18:01

Speeding maniacs 😆 love it!

TabbyStar · 28/02/2020 18:04

Why do they stay in the middle lane when you've moved from the inside lane to the outside lane and back again to overtake them?

Problem is though you can get stuck in the inside lane when you're driving properly if every other bugger is in the middle lane with no gaps to move out (and nothing behind you in the inside lane).

polkadotpj · 28/02/2020 18:07

My best guess is they’re oblivious which in itself is worrying. Or thinking mistakenly that they’re being safer somehow

BreathlessCommotion · 28/02/2020 18:09

@IceWings middle lane driving is far more dangerous. That's why the police constantly put the message out. You could cause far more accidents.
