However I must confess to my failings as a Mother as DD bites her salmon sushi and eats each piece in a few bites instead of popping it in in one go. I find it very ick

I use fingers. I like chopsticks but I grapple a bit with sushi.

Sushi is rice.
Fish is sashimi, and not all sushi pieces contain fish. You can vegetarian sushi and sushi containing chicken or duck or even beef.

Does sushi actually smell of fish? I eat it a lot and think the wasabi smells sometimes but never noticed the sashimi smell. It’s such a small amount - how could it?!

@Ginfordinner fair some sushi has seafood in it though doesn't it? Like those grim meal deal packs in the supermarket. They smell fishy.

My old boss use to eat it over the head of his secretary whilst live dictating. Bits would fall in her hair. She deserved far FAR more than she was paid.

Sushi is a finger food. Do you expect him to use a knife and fork?

Open mouth is annoying but nothing to do with sushi. Looking elsewhere is probably your best approach.
