Can anyone suggest a good hand cream for absolutely trashed hands?

DS2 has Autism and OCD. And unfortunately Ulcerative Colitis, so he's in the loo a lot and washes his hands obsessively. (He's on meds for both)
His hands are awful.. cracked, raw and bleeding.
He is a lovely lad, and will do as he's told (he's 22 but also has learning disabilities) but struggles to remember hand cream.

We've been using O'keefs on him but is there anythign better.. in a small tube that he can have stuffed in his pocket? He has a job amazingly and his co workers are lovely and will prompt him to do his hands, but we need something that will be a barrier/treatment. We used to have diprobase prescribed but it doesn't cut it.

Weleda Skin Food
Good old vaseline
Any cream with a high % of urea in it

Hemp hand cream from the body shop is amazing.

I also apply dermacare at home which protects during subsequent handwashing.

Absolutely a million percent this cream. Stick it on and over night it’s like a miracle cure. It’s not expensive, you can get it in supermarkets and chemists - comes in small pocket sized tube or large pump.

I swear by Norwegian formula hand cream, the non-scented variety. My hands are constantly wet because of the work I do and get very battered and cracked. I couldn't do without it. We slather it all over our DD too as it really helps her eczema!

PickAChew · 13/02/2020 23:50

Not as heavy as the heel balm. Works wonders. I use it on autistic Ds2 to stop him from scratching himself to bits, too.

The neutrogena and Norwegian formula are the same hand cream I think so two recommendations now!

Emmelina · 13/02/2020 23:51

Another vote for body shop hemp. It works miracles!

tenlittlecygnets · 13/02/2020 23:52

Poor lad. You could try the Body Shop hemp cream or l’Occitane hand cream - both are rich and moisturising.

I use Cetraben - it’s a really good emollient that comes in small pump action bottles. Easy to apply, sinks in, effective.

Good luck to him.

Dreamscomingtrue · 13/02/2020 23:52

The Norwegian formula hand cream is excellent. Both my son and I have used it for chapped hands. It’s worked to heal cuts and splits in just a few days.

Unusualsuspicion · 13/02/2020 23:52

Ittakes yes it's the same - miraculous stuff!

PinkGinAndTacos · 13/02/2020 23:54

My friend gave me some Arbonne hand cream and nappy rash cream recently. Its been really good on my very sensitive skin.

PinkGinAndTacos · 13/02/2020 23:54

Also products with calendula in seem to work miracles.

I'v found Aveeno the best everyday cream but the Dr can prescribe some creams (cannot remember the names but a pharmacist will be able to advice and then if he can afford it he can buy without prescription).

Hurts bees hand salve

Bunnyjo · 13/02/2020 23:57

I have to wash my hands often and I have found Weleda Skin Food is great, but this Shea butter L'Occitane one from M&S is even better.

I've found Burts Bees do good moisturising products, but I haven't tried their hand cream.

Apileofballyhoo · 14/02/2020 00:03

If he could take his own hand wash to work it would probably help a lot to get something that is SLS free. Child's farm is good but while his hands are very bad if recommend Moo Goo milk wash. Get that for home. I went through so much hand cream for so many years before in discovered what a difference it made to not strip all the natural oil out of my skin when washing. Cured to the extent that I can just use ordinary soap now.

Best healing thing I've ever used is Balmond's pure potions skin salvation moisturising ointment. I didn't rate the hand cream though. Best hand cream was Kiehl's but I'll have to Google which one. Best emergency hand care was Burt's Bees gardeners hand salve - I'm not sure on the name but comes in a tin. Fixed bleeding cracking hands.

Don't need any of them now thanks to the moo goo wash, and I haven't bought that for a few years either. Didn't rate the moo goo moisturisers though.

BSintolerant · 14/02/2020 00:04

Aveeno is very good for healing the skin. Double Base and Vaseline are very good barrier creams.

Please don’t get sucked into using any products related to MLMs (Arbonne, Forever Living, Tropic etc). They’re overpriced, overrated and have to be expensive to stop the pyramid from collapsing.

Apileofballyhoo · 14/02/2020 00:17

That's the Kiehl's. Best hand cream I ever used (as opposed to a salve like Burt's Bees). Sinks in and doesn't leave a greasy film on your hands. And I tried everything mentioned here and then some.

If you can get some cotton gloves for overnight (and he’ll agree to wear them!) then Lansinoh nipple cream is also amazing...

Apileofballyhoo · 14/02/2020 00:25

That's the Burts Bees.

This is what saved me so much money on hand cream. I don't even buy hand cream now, and I used to bring it with me everywhere.

Rationalcat · 14/02/2020 00:52

Taking notes.....I've neglected everything lately, and my hands are showing it. Sad
