Can anyone suggest a good hand cream for absolutely trashed hands?

DS2 has Autism and OCD. And unfortunately Ulcerative Colitis, so he's in the loo a lot and washes his hands obsessively. (He's on meds for both)
His hands are awful.. cracked, raw and bleeding.
He is a lovely lad, and will do as he's told (he's 22 but also has learning disabilities) but struggles to remember hand cream.

We've been using O'keefs on him but is there anythign better.. in a small tube that he can have stuffed in his pocket? He has a job amazingly and his co workers are lovely and will prompt him to do his hands, but we need something that will be a barrier/treatment. We used to have diprobase prescribed but it doesn't cut it.

Sorry...just realised that you've tried this.

I used to have terrible skin. I think if you use the same cream constantly over a long time period of time it starts to lose its effectiveness - much like shampoo. I alternate monthly between o'keeffes & the Norwegian hand cream. I wish someone had told me this earlier!

I'm going to put a vote against the body shop hemp. It made my hands much worse.

Do you use liquid soap? Try switching to soap bars. My hands used to be agony during the winter months, cracking and bleeding, but since switching to bar soap, they aren’t even dry anymore. It’s miraculous!

Hemp hand cream from the Body Shop as others have said. Brilliant stuff.

I really rate Lotil. You can get it in tubes or big tubs.

I dislike using hand cream because of the greasy feeling you get from it. Lotil ends up feeling slightly waxy which I can manage.

Weleda skin food was going to be my suggestion too.

Pai products are excellent

Another vote for Neutrogena (Norwegian Formula). I've used it for years & swear by it.

CurrynChips · 14/02/2020 17:40

Another vote for atrixo, I use the yellow pot/green lid one, I find the turquoisey one a bit too greasy.

Personally not a fan of neutrogena (though I haven't used it for the last decade since I discovered atrixo, so the formula may have changed).

I second looking into the soap where he works (and at home) as well. Some soaps I only need use once for my skin to be immediately wrecked.

gerbo · 14/02/2020 17:42

Neutrogena unscented is fantastic.

YgritteSnow · 14/02/2020 19:05

Norwegian/Neutrogena formula is the only hand cream that has ever worked for me. Amazing stuff considering the price.

“My friend gave me some Arbonne hand cream and nappy rash cream recently. Its been really good on my very sensitive skin”

Don’t bother with Arbonne, it’s MLM and therefore overpriced for what it is and you’re likely to be forever spammed by someone who has signed up to the pyramid that’s my advice.

Thelnebriati · 16/02/2020 22:39

Would he be able to use emollient cream instead of soap? They sell big tubs of it in most Pound shops.

Stravapalava · 16/02/2020 22:44

O'Keeffe's for me too. Amazing, magic stuff. My builder DBro introduced me to it. Plus their lip balm is amazing too.

Once it's sorted, the Palmers cocoa oil (not butter) hand cream is very good, as is Soap & Glory hand food.

Cherrysoup · 16/02/2020 22:46

O’Keeffe’s. It heals the splits I used to get every year from being outdoors/tying up hay nets/forgetting my gloves.
