Can anyone suggest a good hand cream for absolutely trashed hands?

DS2 has Autism and OCD. And unfortunately Ulcerative Colitis, so he's in the loo a lot and washes his hands obsessively. (He's on meds for both)
His hands are awful.. cracked, raw and bleeding.
He is a lovely lad, and will do as he's told (he's 22 but also has learning disabilities) but struggles to remember hand cream.

We've been using O'keefs on him but is there anythign better.. in a small tube that he can have stuffed in his pocket? He has a job amazingly and his co workers are lovely and will prompt him to do his hands, but we need something that will be a barrier/treatment. We used to have diprobase prescribed but it doesn't cut it.

Another vote for hemp from the body shop. My DH hands used to be awful and it's the only thing that works.

Atrixo Protection cream (pale green pot) is healing my chapped hands. It leaves a mild coating on your skin that protects them.

I second Weleda Skin Food or Nursem. They have a set for very dry and cracked skin and it’s excellent. www.nursem.co.uk/collections/fullrange/products/intensive-care-pack-cream-fix

Vaseline Intensive Care has been the best for me. At first I didn't expect much from it as it's a bit thin and runny but after a few days my hands actually felt like skin again rather than sandpaper!

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 14/02/2020 09:32

I had dry, flaking skin on the palm of my hand which no amount of hand cream would make better. Lady in Boots suggested Epaderm Cream and it worked almost immediately. Comes in a small aerosol so will fit in a pocket. Really recommend.

Herocomplex · 14/02/2020 09:34

I second the slathering in something and then wearing gloves overnight. Sore hands are miserable.

Hopeisthething · 14/02/2020 09:39

I also recommend the Neutrogena Norwegian formula for daytime and maybe the Weleda Skin Food for night as it’s a bit thicker. This combination fab for my excema prone hands but my daughter finds the Weleda Skin Food stings slightly so maybe try a small amount first.

Another one for Nutrogena Norwegian Formula. I get terrible problems with dermatitis (both allergic and irritant contact dermatitis) and this works wonders. I also find lanolin cream (like the stuff you use on nipples when breastfeeding) very effective and buy some for that purpose even though my breastfeeding days are over

Another vote for the Body Shop Hemp Hans cream! Amazing stuff. I've tried loads of hand creams & I only use this one now, I have one at work, in my bathroom cabinet & my handbag. Check out the hundreds of reviews for it on the Body Shop website. Amazing stuff!

starbuckssuzie · 14/02/2020 10:56

Hemp hand cream - not Hans : )

Flexitol Hand Balm. Clears up my hand dermatitis in days when it flares up.

Nurse here, lots of handwashing, the Body Shop hemp cream sorts me out when my hands get really sore.

limesoda · 14/02/2020 11:08

Body shop hemp for me

SideHustle · 14/02/2020 11:19

Eek, don't put urea-containing cream on cracked and bleeding hands! That would sting a lot.

Pinkywoo · 14/02/2020 11:32

I find the neutragena one really stings on cracked skin, Aveena is good though.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/02/2020 12:07

Disprobase. I'm a nurse so constantly washing my hands.

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 14/02/2020 13:51

I used to say Loccitane Shea Butter but this winter I've discovered O'Keefe Working Hands which is great

spikyplants · 14/02/2020 14:14

The Superdrug Aveeno dupe with active oats and coconut is a godsend for chapped winter hands.

Wolfiefan · 14/02/2020 14:16

I used something called gloves in a bottle. Won’t heal hands but provides a protective layer to help stop them drying out.

cologne4711 · 14/02/2020 14:17

Another vote for Aveeno. Might look into the Superdrug version of it too.

ClientQueen · 14/02/2020 15:09

Neutrogena slathered on at night (with gloves or socks over hands!)
Gloves in a bottle through the day

NamiSwan · 14/02/2020 15:13

Aveeno hand cream, which you can get in a small(ish) portable tube, isn't greasy and rubs in lovely.

AllTheOtherCats · 14/02/2020 15:22

This is the only cream that has ever worked for me. My hands get very deep, painful cracks over the knuckles and tops of my fingers. This is the only cream that has ever worked to heal the cracks. You can buy it from pharmacies and Amazon
