That lovely washing powder smell.. How do you get it?

There are a few people at work who when they waft past you leave a gorgeous smell of freshly washed clothes /soapowder. I've tried but we don't seem to be able to achieve that. Surf, Ariel, Lenor, washing machine cleaned regularly.. Makes no difference. How do they (you) achieve it?

Ariel liquid is the strongest IMO.

99problemsandthecatis1 · 06/02/2020 06:56

I'd love to know. I've never achieved it either.

1idea · 06/02/2020 06:58

Ariel pods fragrance clothes more than the liquid we use them. The colleagues I’ve asked about what they use tend to say it’s the fabric conditioner I can smell, yes I do ask because I love the smell!

HeronLanyon · 06/02/2020 06:59

Liquids do seem to leave that fragrance more effectively but by god they mess up your machine !

justthecat · 06/02/2020 06:59

I’d say it’s the fabric conditioner too, I use lenor

ShivD · 06/02/2020 07:02

I agree with @justthecat it’s all about the fabric conditioner. Comfort Intense (sunburst) is long lasting and Lenor (yellow is my fave)

Ridingthegravytrain · 06/02/2020 07:08

Fabric conditioner and don’t tumble dry. I find tumble drying kills the smell for some reason

Nacreous · 06/02/2020 07:08

That's what those little bead things they've started selling are for, I think? Possibly called "scent boosters". Definitely wouldn't buy them full price, but they're the sort of thing I think I see reduced in Wilko's fairly regularly.

Butterbeeeen · 06/02/2020 07:10

Blue lenor. Iv got washing on my radiators and my house smells lovely

Crazydaisy11 · 06/02/2020 07:14

Bold 2 in 1 liquid smells lovely. I like the lavender one

MegaClutterSlut · 06/02/2020 07:17

I agree that its the fabric conditioner. I use the gold lenor one, can't remember what its called but that one's smell lasts ages

Hercwasonaroll · 06/02/2020 07:18

Just use too much powder.

(the smell is minging anyway)

PenelopeFlintstone · 06/02/2020 07:19

There are some softeners that boast ‘longlasting scent’ - in Australia anyway. Otherwise, change your fragrances every so often so you don’t get used to them.

bsc · 06/02/2020 07:23

Who wants to smell of laundry powder when you could smell of Chanel?

SewButtons · 06/02/2020 07:30

Agree with fabric conditioner. I use the blue lenor and get comments about my clothes smelling lovely. However I think you have to change it up a bit to be able to notice yourself. I never notice the smell of our washing but DM and DMIL both say our clothes smell lovely. We always use the same products though as DP has sensitive skin.

Flufferbum · 06/02/2020 07:38

My wardrobe room smells amazing! I use surf the blue/greeny bottle (5 herbal Extracts) with lenor spring awakening conditioner and spring awakening unstoppables or dreams! And I can honestly say our clothes smell amazing!

Mmmmdanone · 06/02/2020 07:38

I just started getting those Smol washing capsules that are all over Facebook and they smell gorgeous.

movingdilemma1234 · 06/02/2020 07:42

Aerial liquid and absolutely never use conditioner, line dry when possible.
I can feel nauseous near someone with clothes smelling of those sickly conditioners

Oldraver · 06/02/2020 07:44

I try and get the least smelliest. Walking down the washing powder aisle makes me sneeze

Since I've stopped using fabric conditioner I can now smell the detergent on my clothes

NoProblem123 · 06/02/2020 07:45

Bsc wins the thread !

Flufferbum · 06/02/2020 07:45

Agree - don’t use the dryer if you can help it, and if you do, don’t over-dry! I always do use the dryer and my clothes smell lovely but not as strong as DP!

woodencoffeetable · 06/02/2020 07:49

ariel pods
I was given a promo pack.
they smell really strong.
they are shit at getting clothes clean, so I won't be buying.

agree with a pp - tumble drying kills any smell.

Saylwhat · 06/02/2020 07:50

Blue Lenor

happycamper11 · 06/02/2020 07:52

Fairy pods smell amazing- unfortunately they seem to leave greasy marks on my black clothing but it think that's my ineffective washing machine rather than the fault of the pods

FAQs · 06/02/2020 07:54

I use Smol, I find the smell faint but I’m amazed by the cleaning ability! Best thing I’ve used to get out staines.
