That lovely washing powder smell.. How do you get it?

There are a few people at work who when they waft past you leave a gorgeous smell of freshly washed clothes /soapowder. I've tried but we don't seem to be able to achieve that. Surf, Ariel, Lenor, washing machine cleaned regularly.. Makes no difference. How do they (you) achieve it?

Trouble with the pods is, they bigger up your machine. I use good old Fairy powder and whichever of the decent fabric conditioners is best value per wash.

And then I apply Chanel...

I don’t know if it’s any good for your clothes but I put a splash of Linen Fresh Zoflora in the draw with the Pure Fabric conditioner (the white ones).
Smells divine 😁

You’re noticing the smell because it’s not the one you’re used to. You become nose blind to scents quite quickly, so if you want to keep noticing the scents you need to switch up your laundry routine regularly.

Oulu · 06/02/2020 12:49

It's basically a smell of chemicals. I don't understand why you'd actively want to achieve that.

riotlady · 06/02/2020 13:03

We use ecozone fabric conditioner (can’t remember what the scents called but it’s yellow) and it makes everything smell lovely!

DonPablo · 06/02/2020 13:06

Another one for Blue lenor.

My friend use the fairy powder blocks with blue lenor and her clothes small the best. The powder blocks fuck up my drawer so I can't use them.

You can put the tablets straight in the drum, put them in first and at the back. They dissolve as the water is added and don’t clog your dispenser up.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 06/02/2020 16:57

Oh god, it's a horrid smell - so chemical and fake.

Find an eco-friendly washing powder OP - save the planet, save yourself and save your friends from the horridness!

To me the freshest laundry smell comes from line drying.
Not really possible at this time of year though.
As has been said it's probably something different to your usual detergent so I'd just ask.

I'm not really consistent with detergents.
Sports stuff needing hot wash gets non bio powder ( put in drum with clothes) , squirt of vinegar, sometimes without conditioner as they like the ' snap' when doing katabut itsa bugger to iron.
Technical fabrics like bicycle gear , liquid either pod or I washing ball. No conditioner.
Day to day clothes either pod or liquid ( non bio) and either sensitive conditioner or blue depending on whose clothes.

Bedding, non bio powder, those scent booster pellets, conditioner

dayowl · 06/02/2020 17:19

Blue lenor!

Strawberrycreamsundae · 06/02/2020 17:34

Persil bio powder and blue Comfort. Can't be beaten!

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/02/2020 17:45

No conditioner but a few drops of lavender essential oil in the conditioner drawer.

NotProudOfMyself · 06/02/2020 21:14

I think it's a lovely smell. Very fresh, comforting and homely.

userxx, I squirt the bleach in the drum and put it on the hottest cycle I have.

ItFigures · 06/02/2020 21:38

I use the pearl things that you add to your wash. Makes clothes and bedding smell really nice.

Babyg1995 · 06/02/2020 21:43

Bold the Lilly one Aldi do there own version that's better imo ,lenor spring awakening and unstoppable sport one I also try and get it outside even just an hour then dry in doors .

happygertie · 06/02/2020 21:44

It's results from not overloading the wash, if you cram as many clothes as possible into the wash the. Clothes don't hold their fresh scent. I've noticed if I only do a half loads my clothes smell lovely for a long time and people have commented

Honeybee85 · 06/02/2020 21:47

Use pods. I also notice that drying your clothes indoors can help.

And if everything else failes, Fresh eau de toilette might be the scent for you Wink

june2007 · 06/02/2020 21:51

Put too much powder in and don,t rinse propperly is the usual reason.

Titsywoo · 06/02/2020 21:52

Definitely fabric conditioner - it's the only thing that gets my laundry smelling of anything. I don't like it personally but do use it for the stinky dog blankets or they make the machine smell!

Vinorosso74 · 06/02/2020 21:52

I'm another one who can't stand the strong smell of laundry products. They are a really sickly smell. I hate the laundry aisle in supermarkets!!!

DramaAlpaca · 06/02/2020 21:58

I actively avoid strong smelling laundry products and don't use fabric conditioner at all. I buy the least-fragranced detergent that I can find. The smell of laundry that's been dried outside on the line is so nice.

userxx · 06/02/2020 23:02

@TheWuzzles 👍 one for the weekend.
