To store a car and not all the crap you don't want in the house?

I know nobody that uses it for their actual car

My mum.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 24/01/2020 20:38

I do! (But I don't live in the UK and would otherwise have to de-ice or even dig my car out of snow each morning at this time of the year. Plus, we have a large shed, cellar and loft for all the stuff people normally store in the garage!).

DesLynamsMoustache · 24/01/2020 20:39

No. No one I know does! And I've never seen anyone in our street parking in the garage or driving out from the garage.

Aurorie11 · 24/01/2020 20:42

Yes, DH has his 1970s play car in it, so have to de-ice day to day car now as it’s now on the drive

Redglitter · 24/01/2020 20:43

My Mum does. Always has

Ginfordinner · 24/01/2020 20:44

Yes. We don't store loads of crap that we don't need. It gets recycled. Besides we don't have enough room to keep both cars on our drive.

TheHagOnTheHill · 24/01/2020 20:44

Most garages are just big enough for the car ,however you can't get out of the doors.

nocoolnamesleft · 24/01/2020 20:44

I don't understand. Storing crap from the house is its intended purpose.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2020 20:44

Yep, my car lives in it. Especially good when the weather is freezing.

There's various other stuff in there, but it all fits.

My parents put their cars in theirs too.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 24/01/2020 21:05

We do. One car in the garage and one on the drive. Then there’s space for a visitor car on the drive too. DH has loads of tools and stuff and we have an extra fridge in there. There’s a workbench too, but enough room for the car.

Lipperfromchipper · 24/01/2020 21:07

Yes we do, and PIL’s do it too!

DappledThings · 24/01/2020 21:08

My parents. "Putting the car away" is part of their evening routine!

QuillBill · 24/01/2020 21:10

We do. We don't have as much crap as the average family as we've moved so many times.

This morning I asked dh to put an old fitted sheet in the bin on his way out and he said he would put it the garage as we need to do some painting and we don't have anything else we could use.

PhantomErik · 24/01/2020 21:11

Sort of, DH has a kit car that lives in our garage but.... so does the washing machine, tumble dryer, all the dc various hobby kits (swimming, football, dancing etc) & out of season stuff like surfboards, windbreak, welly boots etc. It's a double garage.

Mil keeps her car in the garage.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 24/01/2020 21:11

We do. It has a car, 6 bikes and various tools in it.

Swishswish26 · 24/01/2020 21:12

**DappledThings my parents are the same! Sometimes my Dad even puts my mum’s car away in the garage as well as his!
I don’t know any friends of mine that actually use their garage to park a car in though!

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 24/01/2020 21:13

The problem is that people have too much 'stuff' these days. If you have so much stuff that you're storing a garage full of it outside your main house, you probably need to have a clear out.

AgeLikeWine · 24/01/2020 21:15

The problem with most garages is that they were built in ye olden dayes when cars were much smaller than they are today. Modern family cars, particularly SUVs, are enormous and they simply don’t fit in garages which were designed for Ford Escorts.

DappledThings · 24/01/2020 21:20

I have been at my parents when it6got late. We are all heading to bed and one of them remembers the car is still out. Anytime I've suggested maybe just leaving it for one night they have looked at me with confused amusement.

peanutfoldover · 24/01/2020 21:22

We just store shit in ours that eventually goes mouldy and taken to the dump.

Currently watching some old dining chairs slowly rot.

Rayna37 · 24/01/2020 21:23

We do! DH's car and an old convertible in the garage, camper van and my car in the car port. Although there's no way I could be bothered to use the garage for my daily drive; car port is best all round I think! Also some bikes and the lawnmower in the garage.

SpeedofaSloth · 24/01/2020 21:24

Used to in a rental house years ago, not now (DH has taken over with tools ad workbenches).

Gogolego · 24/01/2020 21:24

My boss does. And boasts how it's carpeted and that it means he doesn't have to deice the car. And then makes me feel guilty for living in a normal house where the garage is where the crap is stored

Foxes157 · 24/01/2020 21:32

No because we could just about get the small car in but we wouldn't be able to get out of it.

DH uses it as his man cave and fills it full of his useful things that if in the house I'd chuck out as it's junk.

Brahumbug · 24/01/2020 21:37

Our garage has our motorbikes in, but not the cars.
